Chapter 617: Chapter 617: Is It Not Good to Go Home?
Due to the angle, no one could get a clear look at the man’s face. However, just the fact that he walked out of the ocean was enough to instill fear. Even more terrifying were the tattered clothes he wore and the dreadful, bloody wounds on his body, from which fresh blood continuously flowed.
When the man reached the beach, he fell to his knees, his hands on the ground, as if every ounce of strength had been drained from him in an instant.
The captain observed through a telescope, horrified to find the man’s wounds healing at an unimaginable pace. This was something no ordinary human could achieve.
"What? Could this person be...?" Familiar images popped into everyone’s mind as they realized who the man was. Suddenly they felt terribly afraid. With Lin Xi and Su Hui nowhere to be found, who could possibly defeat this demon?
In just moments, the boss had risen again, opening his hands and inhaling as if relishing a rebirth. As he adjusted his gaze towards Lengbing Ocean Shipping Company’s cargo ship, he caught sight of the horrified faces of Lu Yi and others.
With a malicious grin, the boss made a move towards the ship. Suddenly, a gunshot pierced the air, dangerously loud. The boss staggered as if a bullet had penetrated his body.
"It’s been a while, boss. Hope all is well," Gu Fan said, brandishing his gun. Anger coursed through him with every step he took, every shot he fired.
The bullets did no permanent damage to the boss, just pain - real, acute pain. Enraged, the boss retorted, "Gu Fan, I knew you’d come. But you should not have messed with me."
"You messed with me first. You shouldn’t have harmed my parents," Gu Fan fired the last of his bullets, but continued to use the empty gun as if it were a club, viciously attacking the boss’s skull.
A punch from the boss left Gu Fan sprawling. Scoffing, he said, "A mere mortal like you thinks he can take me on? Wishful thinking!"
Despite the blood trickling from the corner of his mouth, Gu Fan jumped to his feet, his morale undeterred. "Whether it’s wishful thinking or not, we’ll find out soon. And I can guarantee that I won’t be merciful this time. I won’t let you off the hook."
"As if I need you to let me off. What a joke!" The boss’s arrogance was hardly concealed. He was all set to attack when Su Hui, Lin Xi, Jie, Hai and many others arrived at the scene.
At once, Lin Xi declared his support for Gu Fan: "Gu Fan, don’t worry, I’ll use my supernatural power to bring this bastard down."
The boss scoffed, "What, can’t win without a woman’s help?"
Gu Fan dismissed him, "So what if I do? If not for others granting you eternal life, do you think you’d be stand here, so arrogant? You rely on others for help, I rely on Lin Xi for help. What’s wrong with that?"
The boss laughed scornfully, "Very well, soon you’ll realize it doesn’t matter who’s helping you, the outcome will be the same; you’re going to get crushed. I have a score to settle." His murderous look was undeniable; he seemed intent on killing Gu Fan.
Sensing the tense atmosphere, Hai tried to change the subject, "Boss, have you managed to catch up with that giant wooden ship?"
At these words, the boss looked somewhat disappointed and his murderous intent towards Gu Fan weakened markedly - a clear indication to Hai that it was over.
Lu Yi arrived, commenting, "Don’t ask. When your boss came back, he was riddled with wounds. It looked as though he barely escaped death. I assume he lost the fight?"
A group of henchmen were outraged, "Nonsense! Our boss is undefeated in battle. There’s no way he lost!"
Lin Xi stepped in, "That’s not necessarily true. Just because you’re immortal doesn’t make you invincible. The fact that you can’t be killed doesn’t mean you can’t be restrained or sealed. That’s why you couldn’t defeat my sister."
The boss sighed. "That’s right, I lost. I wasn’t prepared for the opponent to be so tough. As Qian Ye says, I’m not invincible. There are times when I can’t handle things. Plus, this time I wasn’t up against one enemy, but a group. I couldn’t handle it alone."
Gu Fan scoffed, "I don’t care about that. All I want is the original map and my parents’ notebook."
The boss sighed, appearing really hard-pressed, "I’m sorry to say, but both items are with Leng Le. And right now, Leng Le is on that giant wooden ship. If you want to get them, you’ll have to help me rescue Leng Le first."
"What, are you kidding me?" Gu Fan had no trust in the boss, he would never react before thinking things through. However, Hai said, "The boss is not lying to you, your map and notebook are with Leng Le."
"Oh my, any person you could have chosen, and you put them on Leng Le?" Gu Fan held his head, looking quite distressed.
Su Hui then asked a crucial question, "Given that you’ve taken the map and notebook from Gu Fan’s parents, have you figured out anything from them?"
"You’d have to ask Leng Le about that, too. I gave the decoding task to her." When the boss said this, it sounded as if he was shirking responsibility, which annoyed Gu Fan greatly.
The boss crossed his arms and looked amused. "So, how about it? Help me save Leng Le and then retrieve what belongs to you."
Naturally, Gu Fan was eager to retrieve his possessions, but he wasn’t foolish enough to let the boss exploit him. Especially when the origin and dangers of that giant wooden ship remained unknown. Seeing that even the boss couldn’t handle it, who would dare charge in blindly?
In response, the boss admitted that his power alone was indeed limited. If he could get a few powerful allies, like the infinitely powerful Lin Xi, for instance, then their odds of winning were good.
According to the boss, understanding the giant wooden ship might reveal the secrets of the central area of the Triangle Sea Area. Perhaps there was even a connection to the island they were searching for?
Even so, Gu Fan refused. Who knew what the boss was hiding? Gu Fan wasn’t about to be used by him. Moreover, it was too dangerous. Gu Fan did not want to lead others into danger.
"That’s fine. Since this is the case, none of us will be able to find the island. Let’s pack up and go home soon." Gu Fan’s act of indifference was so convincing.
When Lu Yi and Jie heard the word ’home’, they were overjoyed. If it were true, it would be wonderful. They had grown tired of their current location and longed for the comforts of their beds back home.
