Those Classmates who Suddenly Disappeared -
Chapter 614: Hai’s Situation
Chapter 614: Chapter 614: Hai’s Situation
Everyone craned their necks to see, indeed there was a person on the island running over, and he was waving his hand while running, seemingly in need of help.
Gu Fan had a vague idea who the newcomer might be, he whispered a few words to Su Hui who, with a nod of agreement, disappeared into the shadows, gun in hand, prepared to snipe.
The boat’s lights were turned on, illuminating the man running over from the island, so everyone could see his face. Astonishingly, he was one of Brother Hai’s subordinates.
"I knew it!" Gu Fan’s brow furrowed, he then made eye contact with Lin Xi and others, gauging their opinion on whether or not to let the man come aboard.
But before they had a chance to discuss, the captain spoke, "This could be one of the original crew from the cargo ship, it seems like they’re asking for our help. Let’s lend a hand if we can."
"Uh..." Gu Fan found himself in a dilemma. The captain didn’t know who this cargo ship belonged to, and who knew how this bunch would repay the favor if they helped them.
The captain noticed something amiss and asked curiously, "Is something wrong? You all seem reluctant."
The sailors said, "Captain, we only have so many supplies and foods left, there’s no telling how many people they have. If we share our supplies with them, what about us?"
The captain reprimanded them, "Is this your first time out at sea? Mutually helping each other is necessary at sea. No one can guarantee smooth sailing forever, who knows, one day we might need help."
After hearing this reprimand, the sailors hung their heads low, while the captain looked at Gu Fan, suggesting there was no room for negotiation.
Not wanting to argue with the captain, Gu Fan agreed to his course of action, but he asked to negotiate with the newcomer first, to see if he can be trusted.
The captain was taken aback, he didn’t expect Gu Fan to be so proactive and care so much about the wellbeing of the group. No wonder Gu Fan’s friends relied so much on him, he was indeed a responsible young man.
Of course, that was not what Gu Fan was thinking about, he got off the boat and walked towards Hai’s subordinate. The rest watched nervously from the ship, fearing a confrontation.
As they got closer, and even closer, when Hai’s subordinate noticed the approaching Gu Fan was their enemy, he was taken aback, "My God! How can it be you, Gu Fan?"
"First, why can’t it be me, and second, I was going to ask the same thing. What’s going on with you guys?" Gu Fan was also surprised, he never expected to run into those he wished not to encounter.
Hai’s subordinate pointed to the cargo ship and gave a wry smile, "As you can see, our ship is stranded here, we can’t get back to the sea, we can only wait here, but there has been no chance to leave."
"Oh, really?" After taking a good look to make sure that no one was hidden behind Hai’s subordinate, Gu Fan asked, "Where is the boss? Where is Hai? And where is Leng Le?"
"Um..," Hai’s subordinate seemed to be struggling to answer, as though he had some unspeakable secret.
"You must have encountered some issue, something must have happened to your group." Gu Fan kept asking questions, and his last one instantly dismantled the mental defenses of the subordinate, "Did you guys encounter the dreadful fog too?"
Upon hearing this, Hai’s underling immediately realized that Gu Fan and his crew had had the same experience. There was no need to hide anything anymore, he might as well get straight to the point.
After obtaining Gu Chuanshan’s map and notes, his big boss immediately gathered Leng Le and Hai for an upcoming trip. Despite thorough preparations, they found nothing of note within tens of islands in the vicinity of East Land.
Just when they were losing hope, they encountered a strange fog - it came without warning.
At first, they didn’t think much of it, until the tramping of heavy footsteps echoed through the fog. As if something had boarded their ship, and there seemed to be many of them.
Screams filled the ship soon after, everyone in their panic ran amok within the ship. Regardless of where they hid, they were always found and caught.
Likely, something had happened to the captain’s cabin too, as the ship lost control and aimlessly drifted in the fog. It veered too close to the shoals, and then ran aground.
After the fog cleared, the survivors began to emerge, the big boss, of course, appeared unscathed.
Upon taking count, they realized that many people were missing, among them was Leng Le.
Hearing that Leng Le was missing, Gu Fan felt a chill in his heart, he hadn’t expected this woman, once his lover and now his enemy, to simply...
Hai’s subordinate continued, "Then we saw a large wooden ship sailing out of the fog, its deck filled with people dressed in ancient clothes. They sang and danced with rhythmic music, as if they were having a party. These strange people were very cheerful, even waving to our big boss."
What was even more terrifying was the fact that they saw Leng Le’s figure on the ship. They called out to her, but it was as if she hadn’t heard them.
Just as the wooden ship was about to sail away, the big boss abandoned a lifeboat and said to take care of Hai, then he went after the ship. He hasn’t returned since."
Hearing this, Gu Fan was taken aback. In his eyes, the big boss was an emotionless man, who after living for an eternity, held no attachment to anything or anyone. He hadn’t expected him to go after Leng Le.
No, perhaps Gu Fan had given the big boss too much credit. Maybe he saw something on the large wooden ship that attracted him. The reason he chased after it was not to save Leng Le, but to explore what was on board. Moreover, since Leng Le appeared on that ship, does it imply that she had met...
Gu Fan didn’t dare think further, and changed the topic, "You mentioned earlier that the boss asked you to take care of Hai before he left. What happened to Hai?"
"Hai is severely injured and has been unconscious. His breathing is getting weaker. We’re afraid to run into the fog again, so we’ve been hiding on the Island with Hai. We didn’t expect to bump into you." Saying this, Hai’s subordinate pleaded, "Gu Fan, I know we are enemies, but please, help us, save Brother Hai. If you can help, we will owe you a favor, we will never forget your kindness."
Seeing Hai’s subordinate begging so desperately, it was clear that Hai had treated his subordinates well and was not fundamentally a bad person.
