Those Classmates who Suddenly Disappeared -
Chapter 603: Goodbye Without Farewell
Chapter 603: Chapter 603: Goodbye Without Farewell
At this point, Ouyang Jin, Gu Ling, and the captain had sailed the ship to a location near the agreed point, everyone was hoping that Gu Fan and the others would be safe and sound.
Gu Ling leaned against the railing, propped her hand on her forehead, looking lifeless as she stared at the island, preoccupied with worry about Gu Fan.
"Relax, he will be fine. He has experienced so much, he won’t be defeated by an island." Ouyang Jin assured confidently, although deep down he was worried too.
Gu Ling furrowed her brows, then fixated her gaze on the tree-covered hill on the island. She saw figures moving, one, two, three, goodness, more and more, too many to count.
Ouyang Jin quickly borrowed a telescope from the captain. As he looked through it, he was dumbstruck. It was indeed Gu Fan, Lin Xi, Su Hui and the others who were safe, but by the looks of them frantically running, he knew the situation was precarious.
He saw large groups of primitive people chasing after Gu Fan and the others, throwing their spears haphazardly, even accidentally injuring their own people.
Ouyang Jin couldn’t help but exclaim, "What on earth did you guys do to rouse this much hate from the primitive people?"
Du Jun piped in, "I guess these primitives haven’t seen fresh meat in a long time, wouldn’t it be a pity to let it go?"
"Enough with the jokes, let’s get the ship closer." Jie urged, and the captain also ordered his crew to move the ship closer to shore in hopes that it wasn’t too late.
A moment later, Su Hui was the first to sprint out of the forest, looking back as if worried that someone might not have kept up.
Gu Fan was second and Lin Xi third, followed by Jie, Lu Yi, and two of the crew members—everyone was gasping for breath from running.
The primitive people pursued shortly after, equally exhausted, but persistent in their pursuit, leaving Gu Fan bewildered, "What’s wrong with these primitives? Why are they so determined to chase us until the bitter end?"
Feeling close to exhaustion and also annoyed, Lin Xi snapped, "Have you had enough? I dare you to mess with me, and I’ll start another fire."
"Alright, calm down, beauty. Let’s hurry up." Gu Fan helped Lin Xi up, lightening her burden.
Gu Ling on the ship waved her arms wildly, "Hurry, everyone, hurry!"
We’re already going as fast as we can," Lu Yi retorted, his legs feeling like jelly from exhaustion. However, a spear whizzed past him, giving him a fright and injecting him with surge of adrenaline, causing him to speed up and charge forward.
Su Hui was the first to reach the boat. She quickly requested for a gun and bullets and aimed at the primitives pursuing them. But her courage faltered. Even with a gun, she was greatly outnumbered by the army of primitives pouring out from the forest, which left her stunned.
Su Hui gritted her teeth, and stomped her foot, "Set the ship in motion. We can go slow, but it has to start moving."
"There’s no need for you to tell me. I’m already on it." The captain ordered his crew to start the ship and execute a slow turn away from the shore, silently praying for a safe escape.
"Everyone, hurry up, please!" Lin Xi called out anxiously. The situation was dire—if they waited for everyone to board the ship before setting it in motion, the primitives would definitely catch up. But if the ship started moving before everyone made it on board, they would be in real danger.
Lin Xi was the second to board the ship, with Gu Fan below helping to pull her up. Glancing back, he saw Lu Yi, Jie, and two of the crew members making their way through the tough sea waters while the primitives were closing in.
Left with no choice, Gu Fan got on board and rushed towards his companions. He swung his club around, fighting off the approaching primitives and buying some time for his comrades to escape. But as soon as he knocked down three, seven or eight more came forward.
At the same time, Gu Fan also had to retreat, his movements hindered by the seawater. He was getting overwhelmed by the number of enemies and fatigue, having already taken quite a few punches, the pain piercing his heart.
Lu Yi, Jie, Xu Haowen, and two of the crew members had made it to the ship. Seeing Gu Fan in danger, they panicked.
"We should go back and help Gu Fan." Lu Yi suggested, receiving agreement from many. But Su Hui stopped them, "You would only hinder Gu Fan’s chances of escaping."
"Then what should we do? We can’t just stand here and do nothing." Gu Ling was extremely anxious. The number of primitives rushing into the sea was growing, and the beach was crowded with them. Even with Gu Fan’s skills, there could only be one outcome—they would be consumed by the hordes of primitives.
"Make way!" Su Hui came out from the ship’s cabin, holding a lifebuoy in her hand. She tied one end of a rope to the lifebuoy and the other end of the rope to the ship.
Su Hui then threw the lifebuoy towards Gu Fan, screaming, "Gu Fan, catch this!"
Staggered by a punch, Gu Fan lurched backwards, making a desperate leap to catch the lifebuoy.
"Captain, full speed ahead!" Lin Xi ordered. The captain immediately set the ship into high gear. The lifebuoy attached to the ship via the rope dragged Gu Fan away.
But the primitives weren’t so easily dismissed, they too dove into the water, one after another, nearly making it onto Gu Fan.
One of the primitives successfully caught onto Gu Fan’s leg and others followed suit, one holding onto the other, creating a chain of bodies as if they were playing a game of dragon dance.
"Could you please let me go? You may not be tired, but I’m exhausted." With one leg caught, Gu Fan kicked frantically at the primitive who was holding him. Several hard kicks and the ingestion of seawater were too much for the primitive to bear, finally releasing Gu Fan’s leg.
The ship moving at high speed, making headway through the waves, Gu Fan clung to the lifebuoy, feeling as if he had just cheated death. He took one last look at the island—the beach and sea were filled with primitives. Although he couldn’t see their expressions from the distance, he could sense their rage and the murderous gleam in their eyes.
"My apologies for the intrusion. After this, I don’t think I’d want to visit a place like this again." Gu Fan muttered to himself before he was finally pulled aboard the ship.
