Those Classmates who Suddenly Disappeared -
Chapter 602: A Secret Passage
Chapter 602: Chapter 602: A Secret Passage
Gu Fan and his group knew that the situation was urgent, and were desperate to escape, only to discover that figures were flickering in front of the cave entrance, blocking their way out.
This really was troublesome. In such confined spaces, dodging attacks was a challenge, especially if the primitive men decided to shoot arrows at them.
Lin Xi quickly begged the statue with sincere eyes, "Qian Qing, Qian Qing, for the sake of our old friendship, please spare us. Don’t force me to unleash my wrath, I really don’t want to set anything on fire again."
Upon hearing this, everybody couldn’t help but imagine Lin Xi starting a fire, engulfing the place and trapping them, effectively leading them to a mutual destruction.
It wasn’t worth it, but they couldn’t think of any better plan, as everyone grew increasingly pessimistic. Was this the only option?
Just as they were bracing themselves for a fight upon hearing the approaching commotion from the tunnel, a gust of wind swept over, rustling Su Hui’s hair and sending a jolt through her heart. She realized there was air movement.
Su Hui’s immediate response was to observe the direction her hair was moving in. Tthen she discovered a crack in the stone wall behind her. She kicked it forcefully and the wall flipped to reveal a secret passage.
Unconcerned if the passage was safe or not, the group rushed in, knowing that any danger within it couldn’t be worse than their current predicament.
Before the primitive people could reach them, everyone had entered the secret passage and flipped the stone wall back in place,. They pressed their ears to the wall, listening to the chaotic sounds outside as the primitives searched the cave.
They held their breaths and waited for what felt like an eternity until the cave fell silent; the primitives had left without finding anything.
Xu Haowen suggested, "It looks like the primitives have left. Should we go out?"
Gu Fan was quick to disagree: "No, even if the primitives have left this place, there might be more of them outside acting as guards. It would be too risky for us to just go out."
"What should we do then? We can’t stay here forever." Everybody was now acutely aware of their hunger admonishing their patience. They had survived on just a little water and some fruit for a long time, which was a strenuous effort both mentally and physically.
Gu Fan knew how hard the ordeal was, he was struggling too. He glanced down the secret passage, unsure of where it led, and proposed to take it.
Everyone concluded that the worst-case scenario wouldn’t be any worse than their current situation, so they accepted Gu Fan’s proposal. But insisted that Lu Yi, who had a shield, lead the way.
"Why is it always me? This is so unfair." Lu Yi complained. Jie gave him a look and said, "After all the trouble your doomsayer’s mouth has caused us, you owe us this, don’t you think it’s fair?"
"That’s not fair at all..." Before Lu Yi finished his sentence, he felt a gust of wind coming from the other end of the tunnel, assuring everyone that the way ahead was clear.
"Hurry up! We need to speed up!" urged Lin Xi. Though reluctant, Lu Yi had no choice but to quicken his pace. Still, he lamented, "Don’t rush me. We have to tread carefully. Can’t you see how dark it is in this secret passage? How do we know if there’s..."
"Would you just shut up!" In an attempt to keep his doomsayer’s mouth from jinxing them again, Xu Haowen and Jie rushed over to cup his mouth.
Lu Yi could only grunt in protest, though much to everyone’s relief, the doomsaying had been successfully stopped..
As they continued onward, they noticed a light at the end of the passage. They quickened their step, and to their disbelief, made it out safely to stand halfway down a hill overlooking a beach.
"This is great! It appears that as long as we keep Lu Yi’s doomsayer’s mouth shut, we’ll be safe." Xu Haowen almost cheered.
Lu Yi protested against this comment, "What? What? You can’t just blame me for everything."
"Enough of that, we need to get back." Gu Fan pointed at a ship near the beach resembling the one they had come in. Unknowingly, they had reached the agreed rendezvous.
"Let’s go, we should get on the ship quickly. Let’s say goodbye to this place," chimed in Su Hui.
Everyone agreed and began descending. However, they had taken only a few steps when they bumped into a group of primitives.
Both parties stared at each other, taken aback by the unexpected encounter.
Seeing the increasing number of primitives, Gu Fan had a sinking feeling. These primitives were probably planning to attack their ship, only to run into them midway.
"So many, really so many!" Realizing the situation, Su Hui stomped her foot in frustration. "What are you waiting for? Run!"
Prompted by her warning, the group started sprinting downhill. The primitives also sprang into action, a horde of them charging down the hill, howling in pursuit.
"What on earth is happening?" Gu Fan thought in a huff. Just when they thought that they were going to make it to the ship, they had this unexpected encounter. Was this a test from the heavens?
Lu Yi glanced back and was taken aback at the sight of a countless army of primitives in hot pursuit. It seemed as if every primitive in the area had joined the chase.
Naturally, the primitives were not just chasing and howling, they were throwing spears and shooting arrows.
Fortunately, the surrounding rich vegetation provided excellent cover as the robust tree trunks shielded the group, deflecting most of the spears and arrows. The projectiles that weren’t blocked off missed their marks.
To be safe, Lin Xi conjured a magic that whipped up a strong wind, blowing away all the spears and arrows and even toppling the frontmost primitives.
To their amusement, some of the chasing primitives lost their balance while running downhill and ended up rolling past the group.
Lu Yi proposed, "I’m thinking, shouldn’t we do the same? This can help us go faster."
"If you want to, go ahead. We absolutely won’t." The group continued running downhill, they moved a little slower to balance themselves but it was okay. The primitives were challenged by the same conditions.
