Chapter 600: Chapter 600: A Statue

Lin Xi surmised that during those times, with a lack of navigational technology, it would have been very hard to sail for dozen days to get to the Triangle Sea Area. The Eternal Life Clan, without extensive manpower and resources, couldn’t have possibly gone so far overseas. Thus, Lin Xi guessed that the map of the Triangle Sea Area was obtained by the Eternal Life Clan from the floating island on Yuxueyun Mountain.

As for how Qian Qing knew that this was a map of the Triangle Sea Area, it couldn’t be known. Perhaps Qian Qing stumbled upon something, guided by someone?

All these were just conjectures. Gu Fan thought it over and gave up on the useless speculation, deciding it was best to leave this place as soon as possible.

Just as Gu Fan, Lin Xi, and Su Hui hadn’t gone far, they saw figures moving in the forest, causing them to immediately crouch down and observe with heightened vigilance.

It turned out that they were indeed primitive people, which frustrated Gu Fan, Lin Xi, and Su Hui. They hadn’t expected these guys to be so relentless. Were they determined to chase them till the end?

Gradually, they found out that it wasn’t exactly like that. These primitive people moved with difficulty, their expressions grave, devoid of any murderous intent; it seemed they were not here to kill.

Out of curiosity, Gu Fan and his party moved closer and discovered that these primitive people were moving in pairs, seemingly carrying something as they moved forward, which caused them to walk very slowly.

Closer still, they finally saw clearly - the primitive people were carrying their own companions, those who had died in the fire, which is why their faces were etched with sorrow.

Seeing this, although Gu Fan, Lin Xi, and Su Hui somewhat pitied them, they harbored no regrets. If they had to make the same choice again, they would still set the fire. Otherwise, they would be the ones in trouble.

Being cornered by the primitive people, Lin Xi had had no choice. After setting them on fire, the primitives still wouldn’t let go, so Lin Xi had no choice but to intensify the flames.

Assuming nothing unexpected happened, that fire could have burned the entire island to ashes. The homes of the primitive people would be destroyed in an instant, with countless lives lost. However, a heavy downpour saved them, making it feel as though even the heavens were on their side.

Now, Gu Fan was very curious. He wanted to know where these primitive people were planning to take their companions who had died in the fire, so Gu Fan suggested that they all follow and watch.

Two of the crew members opposed the idea, believing it was best to avoid meddling in others’ affairs. The best course of action would be to rush back to the ship and quickly escape this place.

Logically, Gu Fan agreed with the crew members. However, he was incredibly curious about what these primitive people were up to. Lin Xi and Su Hui supported him in his curiosity. Women tend to be more curious, after all.

After discussing, they all decided to follow and watch. This decision enraged the two crew members, who thought that these young people were unnecessarily chaotic.

Quietly trailing behind the primitives, they observed them walking into a valley, and then saw each primitive enter a cave. This piqued Gu Fan, Lin Xi, and Su Hui’s curiosity further. What were these primitives up to?

Two of the primitives stood guard at the entrance, their expressions severe. It seemed like they were protecting something very important.

"We should go inside and look." Not only Gu Fan said this, but even Lin Xi nodded in agreement. "Yes, we should go inside for a look." After saying this, Lin Xi snapped his fingers. Suddenly, a gust of wind sprang up out of nowhere, stirring up flying sand, obstructing their view.

The two primitive guards at the cave entrance couldn’t open their eyes due to the sandstorm. Out of necessity, they covered their eyes with their arms, thinking that the sandstorm would pass quickly.

Gu Fan and Su Hui used the sandstorm as a cover, and stealthily knocked out the two primitive people from behind when they were unprepared.

After dealing with the entrance guards, they decided to enter the cave to discover the truth. They unanimously decided Lu Yi should lead the way.

However, Lu Yi objected, questioning why he was always chosen to lead the way.

"You have a shield. If we encounter any danger, you can block it first and buy us some time," Su Hui explained. But to Lu Yi, it felt like he was being duped.

"Ah, I have no choice. What am I to do when I’ve been so unlucky as to meet you guys?" Although Lu Yi seemed unwilling, he obediently lifted his shield and headed into the cave.

Su Hui was second, followed by Jie and Lin Xi. Although they strongly opposed the decision, the two crew members had no choice but to follow. Finally, Gu Fan brought up the rear, and they all entered the cave one by one.

The cave was dark, with an elongated corridor and hardly any light, save for a faint flicker up ahead.

Gu Fan remembered that before they entered the cave, the primitive people had lit many torches. He assumed the faint firelight up ahead was from those torches.

"Don’t shine a light; we don’t want the enemy to discover us," Lin Xi whispered. They approached the source of light with extreme caution. As they drew closer, they began to see more and could even hear strange sounds, as if someone were chanting magic spells.

Gu Fan thought it would be easier to get caught if they stayed clumped together, so after they were closer, Gu Fan made them split up into different hiding places. Gu Fan paired with Lin Xi, Lu Yi with Jie, Su Hui paired with Xu Haowen, and the two crew members joined up.

Gu Fan and Lin Xi hid behind a large rock. They decided to peek out and see what the primitive people were doing.

They saw the primitives all kneeling on the ground, while one - dressed as though for a ritual - was gesturing wildly, chanting something unknown that made Gu Fan feel uncomfortable.

A dozen of the primitive people who had perished in the fire were laid in front of a statue. The primitives were all kneeling towards the statue, treating it as if it were a deity.

Gu Fan was perplexed. "What are these guys doing? Are they praying, hoping that their worshipped deity would come and save their companions who died in the fire, or hoping that the deity would guide these souls to paradise?"

Lin Xi shook her head, indicating that she didn’t know. Moreover, due to the fear of being discovered, along with the distance and dim firelight, she couldn’t make out what the statue that the primitives were worshiping looked like.

Lin Xi came up with a plan. She snapped her fingers, and suddenly all the lit torches flared up violently. For a moment, the flames shot up to the sky, illuminating the surroundings brightly.

This abnormality almost scared the primitive people to death. They all thought that this was a response from the deity and humbly bowed their heads in fear.

With the brighter firelight, Lin Xi finally saw the face of the statue clearly. After a glance, she was shocked beyond belief.

Seeing Lin Xi’s shocked face, Gu Fan realized that Lin Xi recognized the face. He asked, "Judging by your reaction, don’t tell me that the statue looks exactly like Qian Qing."
