Those Classmates who Suddenly Disappeared -
Chapter 593: Discovered
Chapter 593: Chapter 593: Discovered
Back on the ship, Lu Yi, Jie and the others had already brought food and drinks, though they looked exhausted.
When Lin Xi noticed that several people hadn’t returned, she fretfully asked, "Where’s Gu Fan and Sister Su, and the others? Why didn’t they come back with you?"
Scratching his head, Lu Yi replied, "We ran into some trouble. We were attacked by the locals. Xu Haowen and a few others were captured. So Gu Fan and Sister Su went to rescue them."
Hearing the words ’locals,’ Xiaohu was taken aback, "Wait, when you say locals, do you mean primitive-looking people?"
"Yes." Lu Yi nodded and Xiaohu made a face as if to say ’Oh my God, I knew it.’
Lin Xi, also aware of the pressing situation, hastily asked, "How many of them are there? Can Gu Fan and Sister Su handle this alone?"
All they saw was Lu Yi shaking his head, looking pessimistic, which immediately alarmed everyone.
Ouyang Jin chimed in, "Gu Fan asked us to bring back the food and water. He said that it’s our hope for survival. Now that we’ve brought them back, we need to rush back and help them. If it’s just Gu Fan and Sister Su, they’ll have difficulty handling those primitives."
"Alright, let’s go quickly." Lin Xi moved swiftly, took a sip of water to soothe her throat, and prepared to leave.
Ouyang Jin tried to dissuade her, "Gu Fan said that others can come and help, but you, Lin Xi, must remain on the ship. This is our only hope to leave."
"To leave, it is a prerequisite that we’re alive." Lin Xi didn’t care about those things. She wanted to join the action, and her determined eyes seemed to suggest that nothing anybody said could change her mind.
Lu Yi felt Lin Xi’s reasoning made sense, "Alright, let’s just leave a few people behind while the rest of us head out."
The others had no objections. However, when Gu Ling suggested she should go with them, everyone collectively vetoed her.
Gu Ling was confused, "Hold on, I thought we agreed we’re all going to help. Why am I being left out?"
Without giving any explanation, Lin Xi, eager to save them, was about to set off when strange noises came from the sea behind them. They all turned to see waves swirling up, but they saw nothing else.
"What was that just now?" Everyone became frightened, and Lin Xi frowned. It was only then she realized, if she were to leave, who would protect the ship?
The captain suggested, "We don’t know how many primitives are on this island. If we can’t leave soon or if we lose the ship, there’s a chance..."
"I know...there’s a potential none of us will make it back." Only then did Lin Xi understand why Gu Fan insisted on her protecting the ship – to secure their only exit, and whoever could return would return.
With a struggle in her heart, Lin Xi made her decision. She turned to Gu Ling, "Xiaoling, you need to use your abilities to protect our retreat."
"What?" Gu Ling didn’t understand what Lin Xi meant.
Lin Xi explained, "Just tell the captain which way is safe for the ship."
"Oh, I see. But if the ship leaves, how will you find us when you come back?" Gu Ling was worried. Even though she could keep the ship safe with her ability, she might not be able to rendezvous with the others timely.
"Don’t worry. I can hold on for a while. When the time comes, I will send you a signal." Lin Xi spoke confidently. Just then, the sea began to rise with the tide, sending chills down Lin Xi and Gu Ling’s backs. If something really was in the water, it could easily ride the tide to their ship.
Lin Xi gritted her teeth but stuck to her decision to fight. Just then, Du Jun saw figures moving through the island’s trees, it seemed like the primitives had discovered their ship.
This was a problem. Everyone was worried about being discovered by the primitives, who would then run back to their tribe and soon hordes of primitives would come rushing. Once Lin Xi left, who could protect the ship?
After a little thought, Lin Xi asked Jie to use a drone to survey the island and look for other landing points.
Understanding Lin Xi’s plan, Jie used the drone to hover around the place for a while and indeed saw another safe spot for landing.
Lin Xi nodded and gave instructions, "Alright, after I, Lu Yi and Jie leave, if you notice anything, immediately set sail to another landing point. Otherwise, set sail an hour later to meet us at the other landing point."
Everyone thought it was a feasible plan. But there was one condition: Lin Xi, Lu Yi, and Jie must not miss Gu Fan and Sister Su. If Gu Fan and Sister Su came back and the ship had already set sail, they would be trapped with the pursuers right behind them.
So, it wasn’t just about luck but also about proper deployment. If the primitives attacked, the ship would definitely sail away. If the primitives didn’t attack, the ship would wait for an hour to avoid missing Gu Fan and Sister Su.
Everyone agreed with Lin Xi’s plan and got into action. Qin Jia, who felt a bit better after drinking some water, urged Lin Xi as she was about to leave, "Remember to be careful. There’s only so much you can do on your own."
"Don’t worry. I can take care of myself. Take care of Qin Jia for me, Du Jun." Lin Xi gave a small smile and then disembarked.
Du Jun also said, "Don’t worry, I’ll take care of Qin Jia. You guys must all return safely."
"Alright!" Lu Yi also disembarked. Before leaving, he took one last look at the crew members, none of whom were willing to follow. Even the captain had deliberately retreated to his cabin.
Lu Yi thought what was wrong with these people. They were unwilling to save their companions. Even though they had worked in society for years, they seemed inferior to students.
To this, Lin Xi explained, "Don’t blame them. They all have their own families. They all want to return alive. Plus, they are merely colleagues not bound by deep friendship. It’s difficult for them to risk their lives for each other, unlike us, who built friendship step by step and formed deep bonds through shared adversity."
Hearing this, Lu Yi and Jie thought there was some truth to it, and they accepted this reality. At the same time, they felt fortunate to have friends who were willing to face adversity together.
But the thought of possibly facing thousands of primitives scared both Lu Yi and Jie.
Even Lin Xi, who was not fully confident that they could escape unscathed, had to admit that upon entering the dense forest, they would essentially be on the enemy’s home ground.
