Today, Gu Fan gathered his spirits, took a deep breath, adjusted his mood, and walked into a company. Inwardly, he prayed that this would be a job he liked and hoped that he would be hired this time.

Boss Ding listened and nodded in satisfaction, which secretly delighted Gu Fan. It seemed like things were going well.

"We’ve been really busy in our company lately, and we need to find some young people like you. Your field of study fits exactly with our company’s needs. Can you start to work tomorrow?" these words from Boss Ding took Gu Fan completely by surprise. He was so excited he could’ve leapt for joy, but he kept his poker face and confirmed that he could - although the thing he cared most about was whether he would enjoy this job.

Boss Ding briefly introduced the main business of the company and Gu Fan’s job duties. Although it was mostly basic and assisting work, it was exactly what Gu Fan wanted to do. He nodded to show his willingness to accept the job. As for the salary, Gu Fan didn’t have high expectations.

In Gu Fan’s view, finding a job he liked and learning things he was interested in made a good start. As long as he worked hard, he didn’t have to worry about having a low salary in the future.

"Good, welcome to our company." Boss Ding was delighted and shook hands cordially with Gu Fan. He then solemnly said, "You will face various difficulties in your work. I hope that as a young person, you would have resilience. No matter what difficulties you encounter, you should persist and overcome them."

Gu Fan expressed his assurance. In Gu Fan’s view, could any job be harder than that time he braved the untamed land? That was a joke. Someone who had braved many trials would not fear this.

Upon hearing this, Boss Ding was delighted and looking forward to Gu Fan starting work the next day.

All the way back home, Gu Fan rushed to the market, bought a lot of vegetables, went back home, and started cooking. He also sent a message to Lin Xi, asking her to come over to his place for dinner after work. Gu Fan had important news to share.

When it was evening, Lin Xi and Su Hui got off work and Gu Ling got home from school one after another. Just as they entered the old house, they smelled the delicious aroma of food and saw Gu Fan busying himself in the kitchen.

"You all wash your hands, then sit down and prepare your appetites. Nothing else matters." Su Hui, Lin Xi, and Gu Ling were all taken aback, not knowing what had gotten into Gu Fan. Upon hearing his words, all three women congratulated him. They were genuinely happy for Gu Fan for finding a job he wanted.

Gu Ling then said, "That’s great! How much will you make, brother? I might need extra pocket money in the future, so you need to help."

"The salary isn’t high, but it’s not low either. But I think I can deal with your pocket money," Gu Fan was in such a good mood right now that he looked like he would agree to anything. Taking this opportunity, Su Hui immediately said, "Gu Fan, you promised that if you found a job you liked, you would cut my rent in half."

Gu Fan readily agreed, "Of course, I didn’t forget. We’re friends and I should’ve lowered your rent to begin with."

Seeing such a golden opportunity, Lin Xi simply couldn’t let it pass. She’s joking, Gu Fan was her boyfriend. Lin Xi looked up at Gu Fan expectantly and said, "Gu Fan, I’ve been eyeing a designer bag recently. Although I have a job as well, I’m still short on cash."

"Hello, I’m the one who came for an interview yesterday. I’m here to work today." Gu Fan greeted her cordially, hoping to get along well with his colleagues.

The receptionist nodded, "Good, you do your best. I’m off now." With that, she left.

Her words left Gu Fan stunned. He saw her holding a bunch of stuff and walking out the door. Looking back at the empty office, Gu Fan was in a daze. He asked her, "Hasn’t everyone come to work yet?"

The receptionist turned back and answered with a helpless expression, "Yesterday was everyone’s last day of work. My things were just too much so I came early today to clean up. Good luck." After saying this, she entered the elevator and disappeared from Gu Fan’s sight.

"What happened?" Gu Fan was dumbfounded, secretly fearing that when he began his first day of work, the company had gone bankrupt; things you only saw in ludicrous online stories seemed to be happening to him; he couldn’t let this happen, he had given all his savings to Lin Xi yesterday in his good spirits.
