"I don’t respond well to threats." The boss was furious, a little more commitment and he could snap Gu Fan’s neck.

Gu Fan had no doubt the enraged boss was capable of doing so, yet he stood there defiantly. Fear of death wasn’t part of his vocabulary, summed up by his willingness to venture into the perilous Yuxueyun Mountain.

Seeing Gu Fan in danger, Liu Yao gathered her courage and sprayed a can of self-defense pepper spray towards the boss’s eyes.

"Damn it!" The boss quickly rubbed his eyes. He was furious.

"Safe for now!" Gu Fan grabbed Liu Yao’s hand and bolted. He knew they couldn’t outrun the boss, who had a speed beyond any average person.

With his vision blurred, the boss could barely make out the fleeing figures of Gu Fan and Liu Yao. Enraged, he shouted, "Run all you want, I’ll catch up in no time and you will pay dearly."

"Not if I can help it," replied Gu Fan, messaging as he spoke.

Liu Yao, following behind Gu Fan, dared not look back. The mere thought of the boss’s murderous look terrified her. She couldn’t help but complain, "Gu Fan, this time you’re going to get me killed!"

"Ha ha, a miscalculation on my side. I underestimated his cool judgement. If not for Liu Yao’s timely intervention, I would have been a goner," Gu Fan admitted, a wave of fear passing over him.

Just fifteen more minutes, Gu Fan prayed silently, hoping reinforcements would arrive in time.

However, just five minutes later, the boss caught up. He blocked their path and demanded sternly, "Any last words?"

Gu Fan shrugged it off, "Nothing. Do whatever you please."

The boss snorted, "Don’t think I’ll hesitate to hurt you just because of your family connections. The Gu family has Gu Ling, Liu Zhendong has other children, losing two of you wouldn’t affect the grand scheme."

Gu Fan shook his head, "You’ve made too many enemies. Neither the Gu family nor Liu family will aid you. As the saying goes, ’support to him who upholds justice, abandoned he who loses it’, in the end, you will lose everything."

"I don’t care. I am immortal. Losing means nothing to me. I’ll wipe out the whole Gu and Liu family. If I can’t have it, no one else will," the boss’s attitude was firm, his murderous look apparent.

Gu Fan realized his mistake. He had overestimated the boss’s cool-headedness and his desire for the ancestral house.

As darkness descended, the boss, losing patience, lunged towards Gu Fan, ready for the kill.

"No way!" Gu Fan and Liu Yao lacked the power to fight back. Just when they thought they were doomed, a sudden gust of wind flipped the boss over.

The strong wind made the boss retreat a dozen steps before he could steady himself. When he saw who had come to Gu Fan’s aid, he frowned.

"So much for splitting the profits. Are you looking to undermine the deal?" said Qian Feng, accusingly.

The boss remained silent, watching Qian Feng and the others behind him.

Seeing Qian Feng’s arrival, Gu Fan let out a sigh of relief and grumbled, "I knew it when Ning Qi answered my message and notified you. You always arrive earlier than everyone else."

"Kid, just because I came to your rescue doesn’t mean you’re safe," responded Qian Feng. She then addressed the boss, "The plan remains the same. We’ll work together to capture Gu Fan and trade him for the ancestral house."

"Fine, no issues," the boss had no choice but to keep up appearances with Qian Feng.

Gu Fan quickly interjected, "Sure, you two can overpower anyone. But the problem is there’s only one hostage - me and two of you. Who gets to keep the hostage?"

Hearing this, both Qian Feng and the boss frowned. That was indeed a challenge.

Gu Fan had correctly assessed their alliance based on mutual mistrust. A single phrase was enough to raise each other’s guard.

Qian Feng was aware of Gu Fan’s intentions but she didn’t intend to play his game. She responded, "How about this, I’ll send Zhang Yang over, making three at your end. Gu Fan will be dealt with by me."

The boss nodded in agreement, "Liu Yao belongs to the Liu family. I want to take her."

"This can’t be happening!" Gu Fan knew Qian Feng and the boss were figuring out a balanced way to cooperate. In an attempt to disrupt this balance, Gu Fan pulled out his phone and played a recording. It was the boss’s words where he mentioned how he disliked splitting profits and would prefer having it all to himself. He had also mentioned how he didn’t care about Gu Fan as he had Gu Ling to exchange for the house.

As the recording played, Qian Feng and the boss locked eyes. Momentary suspicion flickered between them, foretelling the complete breakdown of their trust-based alliance.

Gu Fan feigned an apologetic expression, "So sorry about that. I didn’t realize my phone had started recording."

Hearing this, the boss was so infuriated that he was close to pouncing on Gu Fan to teach him a lesson.

"Gu Fan, you have my respect. Despite such a critical situation, you still manage to handle it smoothly. It’s no wonder Qian Ye chose you," Qian Feng sounded like she was praising him, but her tone was rife with dissatisfaction, "However, if you think you can exploit the strife between the boss and me to escape, then you’re gravely mistaken. There’s no way you’re going anywhere today."

"Sorry to disappoint you, but I don’t think that’s how it’s going to play out. I am confident that not only will I walk out of here unscathed today, but also that both of you will, under my suggestion, sit down and talk," Gu Fan replied confidently, leaving the boss and Qian Feng puzzled as to what he was leveraging?

The answer arrived shortly. A car zoomed in and stopped beside Gu Fan. Three people disembarked, alerting both the boss and Qian Feng that the situation had completely changed.

"Oh my gosh, made it just in time." Lin Xi was relieved to see Gu Fan unharmed. However, her expression turned sour upon seeing Liu Yao beside him.

Scratching his head, Gu Fan struggled to explain.

"Long time no see. Never thought we’d meet again under hostile circumstances so soon," said Zhuo Hang, watching the scene with interest.

With the arrival of Lin Xi, Su Hui, and Zhuo Hang, their presence balanced the situation amongst all three parties, preventing any rash move.
