Those Classmates who Suddenly Disappeared -
Chapter 393: The Good and The Bad
Chapter 393: Chapter 393: The Good and The Bad
Pedaling his bicycle and enjoying the wind while listening to music, Gu Fan was on his way to school. His heart was filled with anticipation at the thought of seeing Lin Xi again. Now that school was starting, he could legitimately see her every day, and this thought made him extremely happy.
However, Gu Ling, who was sitting behind him, was not so calm: "Brother, look over there, such a weird person. Brother, look here, those two dog walkers are fighting. Brother, look, look!"
Gu Fan, driven to the point of exasperation, finally said, "Xiaoling, listen well. If you keep on distracting me like this, from tomorrow you’ll have to find your own bicycle."
"No! I want to sit behind you." Gu Ling spoke in a whiny voice, acting entirely like a spoiled younger sister who demanded constant attention from her brother.
Shaking his head and sighing, Gu Fan finally reached the school gate. He parked his bicycle in the designated area and immediately saw Lin Xi waiting for him with a backpack and some books. She was holding a bag of breakfast, and Gu Fan knew, from one glance, that she had bought it for him.
Upon seeing this scene, Gu Fan couldn’t help but smile. He hurriedly walked over to her, completely forgetting about Gu Ling.
"Hey, wait for me, brother! So just because you have a girlfriend now, does that mean you’re going to abandon your younger sister?" Gu Ling ran up to him and said, while looping her arm around his elbow.
Seeing Gu Ling being so clingy with Gu Fan, Lin Xi was surprised. Then Gu Ling greeted her with a smile, "Good morning, sister-in-law."
"Hello, Xiaoling. This is for all of you." Lin Xi handed over the bag of breakfast after saying this.
Gu Ling gratefully accepted the breakfast. "Thank you, sister-in-law, but my brother and I have already eaten."
Lin Xi was momentarily puzzled. "You’ve eaten already? Where?"
"At home, the breakfast was..." Gu Ling was about to continue when Gu Fan interrupted her, "I made some plain porridge and served it with some leftover dishes from last night. We didn’t really eat much, thank you so much for the breakfast you brought."
Lin Xi just responded with an "Oh," while Gu Ling appeared slightly bewildered. She wanted to say something else, but Gu Fan hurried her to class.
Watching Gu Fan go off with Lin Xi, Gu Ling pouted. "It really confirms what mom used to say. What’s the use of having a son if he forgets about his mom once he gets a wife, and forgets his sister when he gets a girlfriend?"
At this moment, Gu Fan felt a sense of relief. If Lin Xi knew that the breakfast was made by Su Hui, he didn’t know how she would react.
"What’s wrong? You look a bit nervous." Lin Xi noticed the abnormality in Gu Fan’s expression. She furrowed her brows, squinted a bit and looked at Gu Fan, "Are you hiding something from me?"
"No, of course not!" Gu Fan couldn’t admit it, he was prepared to deny it until the end. However, after catching sight of Lin Xi’s intent gaze, he immediately became panicked, "Lin Xi, you’re not intending to use your mind-reading on me, right? We agreed before, you aren’t allowed to invade my thoughts."
"No, no, I wouldn’t do that." Although Lin Xi said so, her eyes told a different story.
Just then, a few classmates happened to walk by. Seeing Gu Fan and Lin Xi holding hands, they couldn’t close their mouths from the surprise. One of them, too excited to help himself, walked over and asked, "Gu Fan, are you and Lin Xi... are you two..."
Gu Fan and Lin Xi looked at each other, they felt a bit embarrassed and smiled. More classmates passed by, every familiar face cast surprised looks at them, which made them feel even more embarrassed, so they quickly headed for the classroom.
The classroom was already packed. Lu Yi had saved a seat for Gu Fan, while Lin Xi’s roommate had also reserved a spot for her, causing Gu Fan and Lin Xi to sit separately.
However, anyone with a discerning eye could tell from the way Gu Fan and Lin Xi entered the room together that there was more to their relationship than met the eye, and that they had probably reconciled.
Due to their lack of formal announcement, everyone was curious. Lin Xi’s roommate was especially persistent, wanting to know if Lin Xi and Gu Fan had truly gotten back together. But all Lin Xi did was to respond with a smile.
Unable to infiltrate anything out of Lin Xi, her roommate changed the subject. "Lin Xi, did you know that one of our roommates, the one who doesn’t get along with us, has requested a room change? Now we have one open spot in our dorm, and the teacher mentioned today that someone new will move in. Can you guess who it is?"
Lin Xi was not very interested: "It doesn’t matter who it is, as long as they’re easy to get along with."
"It might not matter to us, but it will have a big impact on you." After completing the sentence, her roommate laughed anxiously, the expression on her face slightly awkward. Then she said, "It’s Yang Xinran, the Yang Xinran with whom you’ve had confrontations."
"Ah, it’s her?" Lin Xi felt a sense of despair. Why did it have to be Yang Xinran?
Just the thought of how she had been tricked by Yang Xinran into going to the Media Information Center, which had almost scared her half to death, made Lin Xi harbor a certain degree of animosity towards Yang Xinran. However, upon further consideration, she realized that the one who ended up worse off eventually was Yang Xinran herself. After all, the hardships that Yang Xinran had to endure were not unrelated to Lin Xi, so it was hard to say who had harmed the other more.
Meanwhile, Gu Fan had barely sat down before the guys around him couldn’t help asking, "Gu Fan, you’re really something. You managed to reconcile with Lin Xi. How did you do it? Teach us, man. I just broke up with my girlfriend yesterday and I want to win her back."
Upon hearing this, Gu Fan shook his head and sighed, "I hope you won’t learn from my experience. It’s too hard, too exhausting."
"What are you talking about?" The guys were greatly displeased, believing that Gu Fan was simply unwilling to share. Little did they know that Gu Fan had struggled valiantly to win Lin Xi back.
The unhappiest, however, was Lu Yi who looked very upset. "This is unfair. You, Gu Fan, went on a trip and came back with a beauty by your side, while we didn’t gain anything. Jie and I feel it’s very unjust."
Gu Fan patted Lu Yi on the shoulder and said, "Thank you guys for your help and support. And you don’t have to envy me. Think about it, you went on an excursion and found out that your girlfriend betrayed you. You went to Yuxueyun Mountain, only to realize there was something wrong with your second girlfriend as well. If not for the misunderstanding between Lin Xi and me being cleared up, I don’t know how hurt I might have been. Do you still envy me now?"
With a thorough thought, Lu Yi shook his head, "Okay, I don’t envy you anymore. I hope you find eternal happiness and joy. Honestly, the person I’m most worried about isn’t you but Sister Su. Is she okay? At least you still have Lin Xi, but Sister Su has lost everything."
"Don’t worry, Su Hui is very strong. She won’t get too down and she’s bound to bounce back soon." Despite his words, Gu Fan couldn’t help feeling worried for Su Hui, who hadn’t smiled much lately.
