Chapter 367: Chapter 367: Trouble Caused by a Photo

With his head held high, Gu Fan walked under the weight of two women’s gaze, feeling like sharp swords pressing against his back. He sighed inwardly, "What’s wrong with caring about a friend? This was agreed upon beforehand."

Climbing up the stairs and stepping out of the clock tower, Gu Fan looked out at the dark city below the ninety-nine steps, and couldn’t help but lament, "So much for ancient super civilization, completely destroyed by their own hands."

Gu Fan fired a signal flare into the sky, silently praying that Su Hui would see it.

At that moment, on the other side of the clock tower, Su Hui saw the flare ascend. She was overjoyed; the flare was blue, which meant it had been launched by Gu Fan, who must be nearby.

Su Hui wanted to respond with a flare, but she realized she had lost it while running earlier.

Zhuo Hang furrowed his brows, "So, Gu Fan is nearby the clock tower, he might already be inside it."

"Unlikely. How could they get past the electronic protective shield?" As Su Hui wondered aloud, the electronic barrier emitted a few squeaky sounds before dimming down.

Luo Jingrong was astounded. "What’s going on? The electronic protective shield is gone?"

Both Su Hui and Zhuo Hang were perplexed. Why did the protective shield disappear as soon as Gu Fan’s signal flare was launched? Could it all be Gu Fan’s doing?

"What are we waiting for? Let’s go." Su Hui, always impatient, was held back by Zhuo Hang. "Don’t rush, let’s observe the situation first."

"There’s no need to be so cautious. I trust Gu Fan." Disregarding Zhuo Hang’s advice, Su Hui was already jogging towards the clock tower to ascend the ninety-nine steps. Given her physical fitness, it wasn’t a problem.

Zhuo Hang followed quickly, with Jie, Xu Haowen, and Ouyang Jin right on their heels. They all hoped to find Gu Fan.

Being the first to reach the ninety-nine steps, Su Hui took a deep breath before gently pushing open the massive door. "That was easy," she thought to herself.

"Let’s go in. There might be good stuff inside," Ouyang Jin rubbed his hands together in anticipation, looking like he was ready to make a fortune.

Not long after Su Hui and Zhuo Hang entered, they encountered a staircase and chose to head straight to the second floor.

At this moment, Gu Fan was still patiently waiting on the other side of the clock tower. Not receiving any signal from Su Hui, he began to worry whether she had successfully made it.

If Gu Fan knew that Su Hui had already entered the clock tower from another side and had made it to the second floor, he’d be surprised.

Coming over, Lin Xi comforted him, "Don’t worry. Sister Su is fully capable, and she’s got Zhuo Hang looking out for her. She’ll be fine."

"I hope so. Besides Sister Su, I’m also worried about Jie and the others ..." Gu Fan genuinely wished no harm would come to anyone, but it felt unrealistic after so many trials and dangers.

Lu Yi came over and pointed ahead. "That’s strange. Looks like the electronic protective shield has disappeared."

All those who had come out took a closer look, and indeed, it was gone. Lin Xi threw a stone to verify, and it flew through without any barrier blocking it.

"How can that be? Why would it suddenly disappear?" Gu Fan had noticed earlier that something was off with the shield, but he never thought it would suddenly disappear. He got a gut feeling that something was wrong.

With the protective barrier gone, the beasts and monsters began to close in from all directions, unhindered, and started to ascend the stairs. They looked vicious, almost as if they were ready to devour their next prey right at that instance.

"Seriously? You’re really joining in now?" Lu Yi grumbled, stepping back, the others following suit into the main door.

Gu Fan and Du Jun closed the main door and blocked it with whatever they could find, hoping it would keep the danger out.

Just then, Qin Jia called out urgently, "I see another door over there!"

"What?" Gu Fan, Lu Yi and Lin Xi hurried over to find, sure enough, another open door. It had all the signs of something having entered, which made them restless.

Regardless, they closed the door and blocked it, praying that whatever had come in wasn’t dangerous.

"Picture lady, the one with purple hair, are you there?" After Gu Fan called her several times with no response, Du Jun laughed. "She’s just an image. Why would she bother with you?"

Suddenly, the woman with purple hair appeared, startling everyone. Lu Yi complained, "Could you make a sound when you appear next time? You scared us!"

The purple-haired lady replied, "You asked for me, so I appeared. I was being courteous. Besides, you summon me then act surprised when I do show up. Isn’t that unfair?"

Hearing this, everyone fell silent. They had to admit that she had a point.

Gu Fan wasn’t bothered by it, and just asked her, "Since you oversee this area, you should know everything that has happened. Did someone come in earlier?"

The woman with purple hair nodded, "Two groups did come in. The first followed the same path as you guys, but then split off when you went underground. Then, another group came in from the other side of the clock tower."

Upon hearing this, everyone was shocked. Who were these two groups; friends or foes?

Gu Fan took out a picture of him and Su Hui from his pocket and asked, "Was there a woman like this among the people who came?"

The purple-haired lady again nodded. Overjoyed at knowing Su Hui was safe, Gu Fan was ecstatic. He was relieved to know he had a reliable ally.

"Thank you!" He expressed his gratitude, but the purple-haired lady seemed sympathetic, "No need to thank me. You should worry about your own situation."

"What’s wrong with my situation?" Just as Gu Fan was getting puzzled, a cold voice came from behind, "Gu Fan, you carried a picture of you and Su Hui all this time. Are you two that close?"
