Lin Xi used her senses to check the door again, confirming that it was only an ordinary door. However, when she reached out to touch it, the clock tower’s door suddenly erupted with a dazzling light and a force that repelled her hand.

"What?" Lan Xi could hardly believe it and immediately stepped back, while Gu Fan and the others retreated a good number of steps, wondering what kind of mechanism had been triggered and whether it would be dangerous.

A figure appeared in the shimmering light on the clock tower’s door, a woman with purple hair and gray eyes. She was beautiful but expressionless, floating in the air.

"Who are you?" Lin Xi couldn’t help but ask. The purple-haired woman calmly replied, "I am an image left by the ancient super civilization as a warning to those who come here not to covet what’s buried here."

Upon hearing the term "ancient super civilization," everyone was stunned and then puzzled, trying to figure out what this was all about.

Gu Fan couldn’t help but ask, "What is an ancient super civilization?"

"Please follow me!" After saying this, the purple-haired woman opened the main gate of the clock tower and led the group inside.

Everyone walked into the clock tower, discovering that behind the door was a completely new world - as if a city from science fiction complete with high-rise buildings, flying vehicles, and other unheard-of high-tech devices.

The purple-haired woman spoke again, "Our civilization reached its height of glory ten million years ago when our technology reached unprecedented heights. However, it also caused great damage to the environment, and this damage eventually pushed us into a corner." With a snap of her fingers, the vision around them drastically changed to display scenes of volcanic eruptions, earthquakes destroying everything, massive waves sweeping across the world, and destroying the high-tech cities.

The group watched as a high-tech city, despite its electronic protective barrier, was instantly obliterated by a tsunami, its cries of terror swallowed by the waters.

Lu Yi understood, "So this was the reason your ancient super civilization disappeared?"

"No, we didn’t just disappear. We were searching for solutions, one of which was the pursuit of immortality." As she spoke, she clapped her hands, and the vision around them changed again. The ancient super civilization built a floating city, evading the destructive powers of natural disasters.

The purple-haired woman continued, "Our world collapsed, everything we struggled to build was destroyed, and the population was reduced to ten million. All living on high-tech floating islands."

Gu Fan continued to inquire, "So, how did you eventually go extinct? Was it because ..."

The purple-haired woman shook her head, "We didn’t go extinct. Some of our greatest minds were seeking a method for immortality and sacrificed millions of lives in the process, turning them into the walking dead. We finally found a way to achieve immortality, but it required sacrificing twelve people born on the same date to make one person immortal. With the size of our population, we could not bear such losses. It was also difficult to find that many people who were born on the same date. So even though we found this method, it was equivalent to not having discovered it."

"Sacrificing so many people to discover the secret of immortality, only to find it unusable, how ironic," Gu Fan sighed. Some things can’t be forced, he reluctantly agreed.

"I’m only an image, without any power to block your way, I’m merely giving you a warning." After saying this, the purple-haired woman disappeared, and the surroundings returned to their original state.
