Chapter 316: Chapter 316: The Favor of Saving One’s Life

"Are you asking me to..." Gu Fan understood what Ning Qi was implying. Phrasing it as subduing was a nicely spun phrase. He knew that Hu Bo also had a shotgun. To deal with him, it would mean having to make a lethal move.

Seeing Gu Fan’s hesitation, Ning Qi asked, "Gu Fan, aren’t you getting scared? Do you really want to see Hu Bo doing things to me...?"

"I’m not scared, and I won’t let Hu Bo bully you. I’m just thinking if there is another way to resolve this, through a civil discussion," Gu Fan wasn’t easily swayed. He didn’t want to be Ning Qi’s pawn.

Ning Qi continued to coax him, "I also hope it doesn’t come to that, but Hu Bo is too dangerous. If we both want to survive, our best bet is to subdue him together. You saw his attitude towards you just now. I can’t guarantee that I can always persuade him to refrain from violence."

Hearing this, Gu Fan was shocked. Upon reflection, it was indeed a dangerous situation, as Ning Qi described.

Seeing that Gu Fan seemed about to relent, Ning Qi pressed on, "If we subdue Hu Bo, only the two of us will know about the treasure. You take half, I take half, and your half is mine, mine is yours."

Understanding fully, the idea that using lethal force on Hu Bo could result not only in acquiring all of the treasure, but also winning over the woman he had been eying, this was tempting.

Gu Fan was astonished at Ning Qi. He never imagined that this woman was capable of such irresistible seduction.

Suddenly, Ning Qi clung to him, her face showing immense fear, "Help me, help me, Gu Fan. I’m really scared, protect me."

"My God!" Gu Fan had to admit Ning Qi’s persuasiveness. Even though Gu Fan had his suspicions about her, he was stirred by her pleas and feeble appearance, igniting his protective instincts towards her.

Gu Fan grit his teeth and shook off Ning Qi’s words. Looking at her acting, her beautiful face adorned with sobs and tears which prompted Gu Fan, against his will, to wipe away her tears.

Yet, Gu Fan still reassured her, "Don’t worry, I won’t let anyone harm you. I’ll have a serious talk with Hu Bo. If that doesn’t work, I’ll take action."

"Good!" Ning Qi appeared hopeful but was anxious inside. If Gu Fan talked things out with Hu Bo, wouldn’t it expose all her lies?

If Ning Qi knew at this moment that Gu Fan was also playing a role, how would she have responded?

Time was running out, they couldn’t keep Hu Bo waiting any longer or he would be suspicious. Having finished what she intended to say, Ning Qi crawled out of the tunnel, followed closely by Gu Fan.

Hu Bo had been awaiting them impatiently in the blizzard. Upon seeing Ning Qi, he wanted to say something but after catching her eye, he realized something was off.

Just as Gu Fan emerged, Hu Bo pointed his gun at Gu Fan and said, "Sorry, Gu Fan, I can’t let you go on."

"What is happening?" Gu Fan was baffled as Hu Bo sneered coldly.

Yet, the unexpected happened. Hu Bo pulled the trigger only to find there were no bullets. He was stunned, because the gun was given to him by Ning Qi.

"Hu Bo, don’t do it." Ning Qi cried out in panic, pulling the trigger. A shotgun blast sounded.

Hu Bo was stunned, looking frightened, he turned around slowly to see a panicked Ning Qi. He could never have anticipated that the woman he loved deeply would turn against him.

Hu Bo fell to the ground, failed to comprehend why, even till the very end.

"What have I done? What have I done?" Ning Qi was in a state of alarm, she sat on the ground, her mind completely confused.

Gu Fan rushed to her, embraced her, "It’s okay, it’s okay. You did it for me. It’s not your fault, it’s alright."

Ning Qi was trembling in Gu Fan’s arms, her face a picture of utter confusion, yet inside she was secretly delighted. This was the outcome she wanted. Hu Bo was a risk factor better eliminated. If Gu Fan had acted, it would have been ideal, then he would have had to team up with her.

However, what Ning Qi hadn’t expected was that her charm, coupled with the lure of the treasure, was unable to sway Gu Fan. So, she resorted to her second plan: incite Hu Bo to take out Gu Fan, then at the critical moment, she would rescue Gu Fan. This turnaround would make Gu Fan owe her a big favor, forcing him to align with her.

Even if Gu Fan had suspicions about Ning Qi, at this moment, there would be no reproach. Gu Fan could never have imagined that Ning Qi had such resources, two plans that left both him and Hu Bo off guard, playing right into her trap.

Caught in the blizzard, all Gu Fan saw was Hu Bo attempting to kill him. He did not see Hu Bo pulling the trigger, nor did he know that the shotgun Hu Bo was using had been supplied by Ning Qi. Gu Fan knew only that he owed his life to Ning Qi.

While Ning Qi did kill Hu Bo, Gu Fan saw it as an act of salvation on her part, hence, he decided not to expose Ning Qi.

To help Ning Qi conceal her actions, he decided to keep the whole incident a secret. With no other options, Gu Fan chose to align with her side.

This was Ning Qi’s ultimate goal, to turn Gu Fan into an ally, pleading, "Gu Fan, don’t tell anyone else, please. I’m still so young, I don’t want to be caught. The treasure is ours, ours alone. We can’t let anyone else have it."

"Alright, I promise you." Gu Fan knew he would only be sinking deeper into the mud, but at the moment he could not think of a better plan. He had no choice but to help Ning Qi conceal the truth, one step at a time.

Seeing Gu Fan giving in, Ning Qi knew she had won him over. Her heart rejoiced in secret again. She knew that no man could resist her.

After this incident, and owing a life-saving favor to Ning Qi, coupled with the treasure and the beauty of Ning Qi, she believed that anyone would comply with her requests.

However, looking at Gu Fan, Ning Qi thought he was the ultimate winner. He got so much without having to lift a finger. She grit her teeth in secret but let it go eventually. After all, as long as she could sort out this mess, everything else was negotiable.

Ning Qi thought that she would have to get married eventually. Marrying Gu Fan was not a bad choice. Having both of them share the treasure, their interests would bind them together.

Suddenly, a few wolves appeared in the blizzard, heading towards them. Gu Fan quickly pulled Ning Qi and they started running.

Ning Qi pretended to look scared while feeling relieved. Luck was on her side. She could conveniently blame Hu Bo’s demise on the pack of wolves. With Gu Fan as a witness, she was sure she could fool everyone.

"Oh my God, how did things turn out this way?" Gu Fan’s main objective was to catch up with Lin Xi and he didn’t wish to get involved in this mess, but trouble had found its way to his door.
