Once they arrived at the log cabin, everyone began their assigned tasks. They cleaned the house, started the fire, prepared food, and after bustling around for a while, they finally had a chance to rest, concurrent with the nightfall.

Zhuo Hang and Ouyang Jin were set to work the first half of the night; Ning Qi and Deng Wenli, the second half. Everything seemed normal, yet Gu Fan felt there was something askew, as long as Ning Qi was involved in it.

However, Gu Fan concealed his suspicion, along with everyone else, he crawled into his sleeping bag and walked into dreamland.

On the contrary, Gu Fan didn’t settle into a deep sleep faithful to appearances. Just as before, he estimated the time, set an alarm on his phone, and woke up in the latter half of the night.

Gu Fan didn’t rise immediately, he carefully observed his surroundings to find that the people supposed to be on night duty, Ning Qi and Deng Wenli, were absent.

"Just as thought!" Gu Fan quickly dressed, then tiptoed towards the window, peered into the courtyard, and found it vacant of Ning Qi and Deng Wenli too. He speculated, "You two are being really cautious by eloping to such a distant corner."

Despite the severe cold weather, Gu Fan took the binoculars and slipped outside. He kept a vigil and, even though it was dark, under the moonlight, he saw two figures tumbling around not too far away.

"Ning Qi, you’re too ambitious," Gu Fan couldn’t help but sigh. In his eyes, any man who tangled with Ning Qi was unlucky. But he also didn’t want to misjudge Ning Qi too harshly. Maybe she was just starved of affection since childhood, that’s why she hungered for more.

At that moment, Ning Qi and Deng Wenli had no idea that they were under clandestine surveillance. They continued to flirt, eventually ending up in each other’s arms.

After their intimate moment, Deng Wenli voiced his concern, "What do we do? We’re nearing our destination, we should get rid of Gu Fan and his crew quickly."

Feeling Deng Wenli’s piercing gaze, Ning Qi flashed a faint smile and said, "We have a plan now but if we execute it poorly, they might still suspect. Gu Fan, Su Hui, Zhuo Hang, all of them are alert. I really wonder what they do for a living."

Deng Wenli frowned, "They’re not simple. If we can’t separate from them pretending to be at loggerheads, we can use the stormy weather as a potential way to pretend to lose them. Based on my experience of this place, blizzards do come regularly."

"Yeah, that’s another good plan, you’re indeed smart." After uttering these words, Ning Qi smiled and then reached out to straighten Deng Wenli’s clothes, making it look as if she was really into him.

However, Deng Wenli’s look was a bit complicated, not knowing what he was thinking, he eventually let out a sigh.

"Are you thinking of your big brother?" Knowing that Deng Wenli was still mourning, Ning Qi immediately put on an act of being considerate and understanding.

If he wasn’t so far away, Gu Fan, after witnessing Ning Qi’s remarkable acting, would have surely been blown away. A woman doesn’t necessarily live a beautiful life because she is beautiful, but Ning Qi was that kind of woman who lived beautifully because she was beautiful.

"What do you mean?" Deng Wenli asked, noticing an ambiguity in Ning Qi’s demeanor.

Ning Qi explained, "Back then, I wanted to understand you, but I was too shy to approach you directly. So, I used to chat with your brother indirectly to know about you. I didn’t anticipate that your brother would misunderstand. It’s my fault that such a misunderstanding occurred."

"So this is it. Well, I guess, this is not my fault, nor my brother’s," Deng Wenli seemed relieved as if accepting Ning Qi’s explanation.

If Gu Fan had heard Ning Qi’s explanation, he would have been surprised and questioned himself if Deng Wenli was a fool to believe Ning Qi so easily. Or, maybe Deng Wenli was just too in love with Ning Qi to deny her.

"Love makes one blind, indeed." Gu Fan commented on seeing Deng Wenli and Ning Qi continuing their public display of affection. There was a time when he too, risked his life for Lin Xi, only to discover...

Soon, it was time for Ning Qi and Deng Wenli to return. On the surface, both looked happy but in reality, Ning Qi was a bit worried. Suddenly, a bit of blue glow drifted towards them. They mistook it for a firefly and their gaze shifted instantaneously. They halted and gazed curiously.

The firefly moved closer, apparently unafraid of humans. An eager Ning Qi stretched her hand to catch it but soon realized her insufficiency.

Deng Wenli knew it was his chance to shine. For fear of hurting the firefly, he took off his gloves, leapt into the air and gently caught the firefly in his hand.

Ning Qi was heartily enjoying the prospect of receiving the firefly. Deng Wenli was anticipating the most radiant smile from Ning Qi and the atmosphere was full of affection.

Suddenly, something unexpected happened. Deng Wenli started trembling, his face turned pale, he attempted to make a sound but all he manged were weird shrieks.

"What’s wrong, Deng Wenli? What’s going on? Don’t scare me," Ning Qi was frightened by Deng Wenli’s condition. She tried to reach out to him but the moment she touched his trembling body, she pulled away.

"What’s going on with these two?" Gu Fan, unable to see clearly from such a distance, was utterly confused.
