Those Classmates who Suddenly Disappeared
Chapter 289: Going All In

Chapter 289: Chapter 289: Going All In

Rather than a hole, it was more like a tunnel. Lu Yi and the wolf tumbled down continuously, unable to stop themselves. The fall was chaotic and brutal, but Lu Yi knew that the situation was critical.

Suddenly, Lu Yi crashed into something soft and the tumbling stopped. But before he could understand what it was, he felt a roar burst out behind him, followed by a huge body springing into action.

Oh my god, what Lu Yi and the wolf had crashed into was a hibernating black bear. The intrusion woke the bear, and the first thing it saw was the wolf, immediately fueling its rage and causing it to attack the predator.

Several more wolves tumbled in after Lu Yi, confronted by the large bear, they instantly became timid and desperately retreated.

The bear charged mercilessly, biting and pinning a wolf on the ground, effortlessly ripping it apart with its superior strength.

The narrowness of the tunnel hinders the movements of the wolves, making retreat and even turning around difficult. Consequently, when the bear caught up with another wolf, it was easily mauled and torn apart.

Seeing the terrifying side of the black bear, Lu Yi felt a strange pang of pity for the wolves, and simultaneously was relieved he had not been noticed by the bear.

The remaining wolves finally managed to escape, whilst the black bear pursued them out of the tunnel. Gu Fan and his group had been ambushed by the pack of wolves and a few of them had been pinned down. Were it not for their protective helmets, they would have been in dire straits.

Just then, a large black bear appeared out of nowhere, its roars drowning out even the vicious snowstorm, scaring Gu Fan’s group and the wolves into creating a distance between themselves.

"My god, where did this big boy spring from?" Gu Fan was surprised and relieved. Luckily, the sudden appearance of the bear disrupted the standoff, otherwise, they would all be goners.

Lu Yi quickly crawled out of the tunnel, relieving to see that everyone was safe.

Gu Fan pulled Lu Yi up and chuckled, "You little rascal, you’ve somehow summoned us reinforcements."

Just as Lu Yi was about to respond, he heard old man Tian mutter grumpily, "What reinforcements, don’t you see it’s time to run? Do you want to be black bear snacks?"

The wolves had the head start in the chase, so the black bear couldn’t catch up. It quickly redirected its target to Gu Fan and his group. The sight of its menacing size, coupled with its charge and the power of the snowstorm, struck fear into all of them.

Everyone immediately took off running, but two legs were no match for a bear. Xu Haowen lagged behind and even tripped in his panic. The pressure of the approaching beast immediately drained all color from his face.

Of course, they couldn’t just leave Xu Haowen behind. Su Hui was the first to fight back her way back. She charged forward bare-handed as she had already used up her ammo.

Just as the bear was about to clamp down onto Xu Haowen, Su Hui launched herself in a fierce kick. Unfortunately, it didn’t faze the bear in the least.

The bear roared and swiped back, sending Su Hui flying. She was dealing with a completely different level of strength and her combat skills offered no help.

With the obstruction removed, the bear targeted Xu Haowen’s neck again. Though his helmet protected him for the time being, the problem was inescapable. The bear’s power was incomparable to the wolves’.

Seeing Xu Haowen’s imminent defeat, Lu Yi rushed over to help. He picked up snow from the ground and threw it at the bear, only to realize that it had no more effect than tickling the bear with its thick and rough hide.

Gu Fan took the opportunity to boot the bear’s behind from behind, then turned on his heels and ran. Sure enough, he heard a raged roar from behind as the bear abandoned Xu Haowen to chase after Gu Fan.

"Quickly, go help Gu Fan." At Su Hui’s urging, everyone abandoned the spot at once to follow Gu Fan, and also hurriedly checked their remaining ammo. Unfortunately, they had fewer than twenty rounds left.

Everyone was aware that a single bullet wouldn’t necessarily take down a black bear. After taking it down, with the remaining bullets, if they meet the wolf pack again, how could they handle it?

Regardless, they needed to handle the immediate danger first. Gu Fan ran for dear life without even dare to look back. He could feel the horrifying strides from behind.

"What the hell! It’s just the beginning of the expedition and already we encounter such a situation." Gu Fan was regretting his decision to come here. He suddenly remembered Lin Xi’s slight touch causing a bout of dizziness, and her words, "Just live out your life as an ordinary college student in peace."

"Could it be...did Lin Xi mean well for me?" But Gu Fan quickly discarded these thoughts. For now, the number one task was to escape.

Every time Gu Fan saw a thick tree, he quickly changed direction, thinking that the bear’s speed would make it difficult for it to turn quickly. He was wrong. The bear, being a four-legged creature, was better at turning than Gu Fan, and it almost bit him.

"What the hell!" Gu Fan took one look back and almost had a heart attack when he saw how close the bear was.

Roaring, the bear charged right at him. In such a critical moment, Gu Fan immediately hit the ground, narrowly avoiding the deadly charge and causing the bear to lose balance and stumble.

Seizing this opportunity, Gu Fan scrambled to his feet and took off in a random direction. Before long, he could hear the angry noises behind him. Without looking back, he knew it was the bear hot on his heels.

"Give me a break, we weren’t the ones who disturbed your sleep, you should be after the wolves." Desperate, Gu Fan ran up a slope, only to find a pack of wolves behind it, led by a black alpha wolf.

"Ha ha, long time no see, let’s be friends, okay?" Gu Fan charged straight down the slope, deciding to take a gamble.

Seeing Gu Fan’s reckless charge, the wolves howled in excitement, especially the alpha wolf, which went straight for Gu Fan, ready to make a feast out of him.

"Yes, just like that." Gu Fan opened his arms wide, grabbed the attacking alpha wolf, and tumbled down the slope with it. At the same time, the black bear burst out from behind, charging down the slope.

The alpha wolf realized what was happening and struggled to free itself, biting at Gu Fan. But Gu Fan had his helmet on for protection, allowing him to hold on for a bit longer. He held onto the alpha wolf with all his might.

There was no doubt the alpha wolf was extremely strong, and Gu Fan was on the verge of losing his grip. But just in time, the black bear’s paw slammed down, pinning both the alpha wolf and Gu Fan. It was exactly what Gu Fan wanted.
