Those Classmates who Suddenly Disappeared -
Chapter 238: Elite Club
Chapter 238: Chapter 238: Elite Club
The Elite Club is just a moniker. Its façade is that of a clubhouse, which could also be called Elite Club, located at a discreet place, with not many people coming and going day and night.
Many people think that clubs are places only for the high-end clientele, but the Elite Club is different, as long as you have useful resources to offer, you can join.
According to Gao Lu, he has only been to the Elite Club five times. Each time, he received a message from the club, informing him of resources and connections being offered, which is when Gao Lu would joyfully head over to mingle.
One day, Su Hui and Gu Fan sat in a car, stealthily observing the club across the street. They had been waiting for a long time and had not seen a single person entering or exiting, leading them to wonder if the club was completely deserted.
Gu Fan coughed slightly, "I really don’t want to waste an entire day."
"Didn’t you want to experience what it’s like to do our job? I’m giving you that experience now. Sometimes it’s just mind-numbingly boring to wait all day, even day and night", Su Hui continued with her surveillence without giving it much thought, she didn’t believe that the Elite Club would be completely empty. As long as she saw someone impeccably dressed, even if they were not the owner, they would be upper city officials, from whom she could trace down the mysterious power.
"Fine, now I understand the struggle. I think I am better suited to providing you guys with advice.", Gu Fan coughed a few more times after saying that, his complexion looking somewhat ill, which made Su Hui concerned, "Dude, you aren’t sick, are you?"
"I’m not sure, but I’ve been feeling worse lately." Gu Fan wiped his forehead, still feeling uncomfortable.
Su Hui suggested, "You should consider going to the hospital. You can’t work on a mission in your current state."
"Okay, I understand, I’ll call Lu Yi to take over for me." Gu Fan picked up his phone, hesitated for a moment, and then said, "I’ll call Lu Yi while I’m on the move."
"Sure, then you should go and rest ASAP." Su Hui said. Then she saw two people walking out of the Elite Club, seeming to have had a pleasant conversation. They even shook hands before parting way, as if they had reached some sort of consensus.
Su Hui furrowed her brow, "It seems difficult to find clues from the outside, we need to infiltrate the Elite Club."
Gu Fan asked, "Did Gao Lu ever mention how he joined the Elite Club?"
"Gao Lu said he was just passing by and then someone grabbed him to fill out a form. A few days later, he received a call inviting him to the Elite Club. They needed his help and indicated that in the future he could also use the Elite Club to seek assistance." Su Hui had just finished speaking when she heard Gu Fan coughing hard on the side.
"Alright, I don’t know what’s wrong. I should go to the hospital immediately. Let me get Lu Yi to take over my place." Gu Fan stated, and then got off the car.
Su Hui watched as Gu Fan walked away unsteadily, she was really worried. But what confused her was that didn’t Gu Fan say he was going to call Lu Yi? Why hadn’t he made the call yet?
Gu Fan hailed a taxi, got in, and travelled quite a distance before turning on his phone. It turned out that his phone had been turned off all this time.
"Hello, Lu Yi, I’m not feeling well, can you help Sister Su with the stakeout? But don’t alert Jie.", Gu Fan’s weak and feeble voice made Lu Yi worried, "Alright, I got it. But dude, your voice doesn’t sound good. Are you okay?"
"I should be alright after seeing the doctor." Gu Fan ended the call soon after, followed by a feeling of dizziness and blurred vision, he sighed inwardly, of all times for his health to take a turn for the worse.
Right now, they were shorthanded, with Zhuo Hang leading his team to keep an eye on the Lengbing Ocean Shipping Company, which left only Su Hui and Gu Fan to stake out the Elite Club.
Just a moment later, Lu Yi arrived, greeting Su Hui with warm enthusiasm, "Sister Su, pleased to work with you. Is there anything specific you want me to do?"
Su Hui pondered, "We need to try everything to infiltrate into the Elite Club. We must replicate Gao Lu’s experience. I believe whoever is doing some sort of market survey or something similar nearby, selecting people who are beneficial to them."
Lu Yi frowned, "Such market surveys are plentiful. How am I supposed to find it all by myself? How about I rope in Xu Haowen or even enlist Lin Xi and Du Jun’s team members?"
Su Hui shook her head, "We can’t involve Lin Xi and Du Jun’s men. Gu Fan has made his stance clear by cutting ties with them. We still don’t know what Lin Xi and his lot are up to. We shouldn’t be inadvertently utilized by them or get pulled into some murky waters. Gao Lu serves as the best example."
"Okay, I understand." Lu Yi sighed, the only people capable of handling this were him and Xu Haowen. As for Jie, considering his ties to Hai, there were many things they had kept Jie out of for fear of him accidentally tipping Hai off, causing all their efforts to be wasted.
Thinking of Jie, his good friend, Lu Yi felt troubled, "Should we really keep Jie in the dark forever? I think, sooner or later, he’ll discover who his brother Hai really is."
"Let’s wait to deal with that later. The urgent task is to thoroughly destroy this place, and not let them control lower level personnel anymore," Su Hui understood the principle that great buildings are built from the ground up. Once the grassroots are destroyed, no matter how strong the top is, it will collapse alongside it.
If the higher-ups of the city have a problem, a few people from the superior ranks can replace them. However, if the problem is at the grassroots level and pervasive, there are not enough personnel to be redirected to substitute their positions. The operation of such a city would fall into paralysis, with grave consequences.
Su Hui could only make such optimistic plans for the moment. She hoped that not many grassroots personnel in this city were influenced by the mysterious forces. She could bear it if there was just one among a hundred.
However, it should also be taken into consideration that many grassroots are only temporarily confused or haven’t made any serious mistakes yet and are not fully sided with the mysterious power. As long as they repent and vigorously crack down on the mysterious power, they can be dealt with leniently.
Everything should be prioritised for the overall situation. That’s the way Su Hui thought about it, and proposed it to Zhuo Hang, who would then report to the superior decision-makers. She hoped that they would consider the stability of this city.
A while later, Lu Yi called Xu Haowen, and the two of them wandered around the surrounding area to see if there were any market researchers to encounter. As for what to fill in, Su Hui explained to them that they just need to fill in some useful information to make the Elite Club think their information fits the recruitment requirements.
Unexpectedly, things went smoothly. Lu Yi soon ran into someone who claimed to be doing insurance market research, and even had Lu Yi fill out an information sheet with his occupation and contact details.
As per Su Hui’s instructions, Lu Yi resisted giving away any information at first, with the person persuading him with both hard and soft tactics. Finally, he filled out the information somewhat reluctantly.
Once Lu Yi filled the information out, the man seemed to be taken aback for a moment, then laughed and took the information away.
"My god, I just hope everything goes smoothly." Lu Yi felt a bit nervous because the information he filled in was not about his university student alter-ego, but maritime supervision, which was as Su Hui had requested.
Su Hui’s thought process went like this: if the vessels of Lengbing Ocean Shipping Company frequently traveled between domestic and foreign waters, they might carry some unspeakable items back and forth, and even have their subordinates smuggling people in and out secretly. Therefore, cooperation with maritime supervisors was necessary.
Given the plans of mysterious forces, there must already be people aiding them in this aspect. However, in line with the M.O of the mysterious forces to maximize their benefits, they will definitely try to recruit Lu Yi.
After completing a market research survey, Lu Yi roamed around a bit more before realizing there were no similar operations nearby. Exhausted from all the walking, he decided to find a place to rest.
Just when Lu Yi was worrying if this plan was feasible, Gu Fan in the hospital was coughing incessantly. And his phone rang, Leng Le showing concern for him, fulfilling her duties as a girlfriend.
"How are you, Gu Fan? Which hospital are you in? I’ll come to see you right away," Leng Le said, simultaneously locating Gu Fan’s position. She already knew where Gu Fan was. The question was just for show.
Gu Fan informed Leng Le, his weak and feeble state worried Leng Le immensely. She promised to rush over, reminding Gu Fan to take care of himself, and then hung up the call.
Leng Le quickly packed her things. Her mind was in turmoil. She felt Gu Fan’s current state was undoubtedly related to the slow-acting poison he had ingested before, and it had finally taken effect now. This also meant that Gu Fan did not have many days left.
"Such a pity, Gu Fan, you were a good boyfriend. However, our positions always opposed each other. Your bad luck might just be fate," Leng Le sighed helplessly, taking a deep breath to adjust her mentality. Although reluctant to part with him, she felt it was time to let go.
An hour later, Leng Le rushed to the hospital. Seeing Gu Fan on a drip, pale and appearing as though he was on his last breath pained her.
Seeing Leng Le, Gu Fan weakly said, "I’m sorry you have to see me like this; as a man, I shouldn’t be burdening you to take care of me."
"What are you talking about? Who says men have to care for women? Being together means taking care of each other," she said, finishing her sentence by touching Gu Fan’s forehead and finding he was running a high fever.
Gu Fan’s eyes looked dull, it seemed like he was on the edge of losing consciousness.
"How do you feel? Are you feeling better?" although Leng Le knew her question was redundant, it felt necessary given the circumstances.
Gu Fan nodded, "Yes, I’m feeling much better. In a while, Lu Yi will take me home. You just need to take care of me for a little bit."
Seeing Gu Fan trying not to be a burden, Leng Le murmured to herself, "Idiot!"
