Those Classmates who Suddenly Disappeared
Chapter 146: It Fell Down

Chapter 146: Chapter 146: It Fell Down

Gu Fan, Lu Yi, Du Jun, and Xu Haowen were walking in a narrow passage, sometimes even crawling. It was exhausting and sometimes they couldn’t help but admire the ogres who had dug these tunnels, they must have swallowed a lot of dirt doing so.

As they continued to crawl, Lu Yi asked, "Did I just hear Jie’s voice?"

"We didn’t hear anything, you must have heard wrong." Du Jun said dismissively, the others nodding in agreement.

Gu Fan added, "We should be careful, if these tunnels were really dug by ogres, then we might be walking right into their lair."

"Please don’t be so frightening..." Before Xu Haowen finished speaking, he was overjoyed because after much effort, he had finally managed to charge his makeshift phone halfway. They now had a source of light again.

This was indeed good news. Gu Fan could finally put away his hand-cranked flashlight. Truth be told, although this flashlight could generate its own power, the light it produced was insufficient. Whether it would be useful when they encountered an ogre was unclear.

After crawling for a while, Lu Yi, exhausted, suggested they rest for a bit. They didn’t want to be so tired when they encountered an ogre that they couldn’t even put up a fight.

It was indeed a good idea. Gu Fan himself felt tired from crawling, so everyone rested. In the meantime, they realized they didn’t have any sense of direction and were just aimlessly crawling forward.

Lu Yi couldn’t help saying, "I really want to know where all these tunnels dug by the ogres lead."

Just then, that strange noise started again, instantly putting them all on alert. It was not only coming from the front but also the back. They were being trapped.

The makeshift phone was pointed forward for illumination, while Gu Fan shined his flashlight backward. Sure enough, ogres were rushing towards them, and there was more than one of them. They appeared to be human, but they were charging forth, despite the glare of the light.

"God, we can’t escape." Xu Haowen’s words of despair also made Gu Fan, Lu Yi, and Du Jun lose hope. What were they supposed to do now?

Just as the six to seven ogres approached from both directions, the tunnel couldn’t bear the heavy weight and collapsed under them, causing both Gu Fan’s group and the ogres to fall.

At that moment, most inhabitants of the ancient town were gathered at a tightly pressed door, with their leader trying to open it using the key Gu Fan had found. Behind them were twelve coffins neatly arranged.

Suddenly, an unexpected event occurred. The passageway above collapsed, sending dirt and stone falling onto the townspeople, causing chaos. But that wasn’t all, among the fallen debris were both humans and non-human creatures.

Gu Fan landed on a coffin, the impact causing him pain. When he took in his surroundings, he was startled. He hadn’t expected to stumble upon this place - perhaps it was destiny.

"Catch them!" Their leader shouted, but no sooner had his command been given, terrible screams sounded from all around them.

The fallen ogres immediately attacked anyone in sight, their sharp claws and teeth easily tearing humans apart. The bloody slaughter caused panic amongst the townspeople.

However, there were more than two hundred townsfolks present, their numbers more than sufficed. Several of them tried to capture Gu Fan.

Gu Fan had good skills. With a leap, he kicked two people flying mid-air. In front of him, the leader stood with a frown, the key in the door behind him.

"Good, mine!" Gu Fan charged towards the leader. With quick punches and agile footwork, he knocked down three men who were blocking his path, boosting his confidence.

But there were just too many townsfolk. More people came from all directions trying to capture him. But just then, more ogres fell from the sky, biting anyone’s head or neck fiercely. Their horrifying screams were downright chilling.

Taking advantage of the chaos, Gu Fan dashed through the crowd. The townsfolk were too busy dealing with the ogres to stop Gu Fan.

A ogre fell, not yet stable on its feet when Gu Fan stepped on it, using it as a springboard to leap high into the air. He managed to jump over the people blocking his path and reached the door.

"Good, I’m here!" Gu Fan closed the door tightly and pulled out the key. Although he didn’t know what their plan was, he knew he needed to disrupt it.

Seeing this, the leader of the group became anxious, shouting, "Get that key back, we must open that door."

Hearing this, Gu Fan let out a smile. As he thought, the leader needed that key to open the door and proceed with their next step. As long as he held onto the key, his twelve classmates were safe.

But this was a difficult task, with over two hundred enemies, far too many. Gu Fan felt a surge of intense pressure as several dozens of people charged towards him.

Fortunately, a large number of ogres kept rushing in and attacking anyone in sight, completely undeterred, leaving those who planned to capture Gu Fan no chance to do so.

"Thanks!" Seizing the moment, Gu Fan darted forward. Seeing the people of the ancient town and ogres locked in battle was a grisly sight, but Gu Fan was oddly grateful for the ogres’ assistance. He hadn’t expected these creatures to have such a helpful side.

Watching Gu Fan make a run for it, the leader of the group grew frantic. "Quick, chase after that kid! We can’t let him take the key."

With agility, Gu Fan hopped from one coffin to another, attempting to quicken his escape. But he knew it wouldn’t be without obstacles. He just hadn’t anticipated running into trouble so soon.

A townsman managed to grab Gu Fan’s ankle and yanked hard, causing him to lose balance, pulling him down. Immediately, several more townsmen pounced, pinning Gu Fan to the ground.

"Good heavens, picking on the one with fewer numbers, aren’t you?" Surrounded and outnumbered, Gu Fan was forcibly held down by three men who proceeded to pry his fingers open to snatch the key back.

Just then, an ogre lunged over, sinking its teeth into a man’s neck and biting clean through. The gory scene stunned the townsfolk, leaving them no heart to continue holding Gu Fan down.

When the ogre lunged again, the stunned townsfolk scattered in fright. With no one pinning him down any longer, Gu Fan could stand up. However, as soon as he rose to his feet, he saw the bloodstained ogre snarling and lunging at him. His situation was looking dire.

At the crucial moment, Lu Yi appeared holding a shield aloft and charged from the sidelines. He rammed the ogre with the shield, knocking the creature back and saving Gu Fan in the nick of time.

"Where the hell have you been, old chap?" Gu Fan complained while getting up and once again tightly gripping the key. He knew it was crucial.

"We can’t linger here. Let’s run," Lu Yi suggested.

"I couldn’t agree more!" Gu Fan had barely finished speaking when he saw a large group of people chasing after them. He shook his head in resignation. There were too many of them.

Seeing that the corridor was narrow with coffins occupying most of the space, Lu Yi quickly lifted his shield to block the way, preventing the mob from getting through. He called out, "Gu Fan, what are you waiting for? Run!"

"Watch your back!" Urged on, Gu Fan turned and sprinted. He knew that staying put would be for naught. Only by possessing the key could he have a bargaining chip.

With eyes fixed on the path ahead, Gu Fan disregarded whether Lu Yi could hold them off, or how Xu Haowen and Du Jun were faring. He didn’t even care about the bloodbath around him between the townsfolk and the ogres. His sole focus was to get away as quickly as possible.

And indeed, though brutal, the ogres were outnumbered by the townsfolk who were also armed. Using nets to ensnare the ogres before pummeling them, the ogres were beaten to death on-the-spot. Moreover, during the clash, it was discovered that the ogres could not stand intense light, which tilted the odds even further in the townsfolk’s favor.

As Gu Fan dashed past the chaotic battlefield without a backward glance, he heard yells from behind urging to "Hurry! Don’t let that kid get away!"

"Damn!" Cursed Gu Fan, seething with annoyance. Yet, he remained rational. If the ferocious ogres could be handled, he surely could too.

Just when Gu Fan had managed about ten steps away, another squad wearing masks appeared in front of him, filling him with a sense of hopelessness.

"Why it’s the kid." It seemed Leng Le and Hai hadn’t expected to run into Gu Fan either. But noticing the key in Gu Fan’s hand and the townsmen chasing after him, Leng Le quickly grasped the situation.

Without hesitation, Leng Le commanded, "Block those townsmen for me!"

"As you wish." His subordinates obediently charged forward, making Gu Fan extremely anxious, thinking he was about to be attacked from both sides.

To Gu Fan’s surprise, however, Leng Le’s men rushed past him towards the townsmen thwarting their pursuit of Gu Fan. This also bought time for Leng Le and Hai.

A massive brawl broke out again involving Gu Fan’s group, the townsfolk, Leng Le’s squad, and the ogres. This time the townsfolk had the advantage in numbers.

Unconcerned about the outcome, Leng Le gestured to Gu Fan and whispered, "Give me the key!"

In response, Gu Fan gripped the key even tighter. Although he sensed both Leng Le and Hai were formidable, he was prepared for a showdown.

"There’s nothing left but to snatch it!" Hai started cracking his knuckles, ready to move on Gu Fan. He was confident that, working with Leng Le, they could quell the situation quickly.

However, unpredictably, Su Hui arrived at that moment catching up with Leng Le’s group. She witnessed what was transpiring, immediately turning the two-against-one situation into a two-on-two battle.
