Those Classmates who Suddenly Disappeared -
Chapter 1442: Calculations of Fate
Chapter 1442: Chapter 1442: Calculations of Fate
Ao Sai’s evaluation of these forms of immortality was that the ancient Super Civilization’s three experiment bases created various ways of achieving eternal life, yet most forms of immortality were flawed, such as vampires who could not walk under the sun, or Sea Ghosts who could not leave the ocean.
Gu Fan became puzzled, "Isn’t there a perfect form of immortality that was created? I’ve seen it, the big boss and Zhuo Hang possess it."
Ao Sai shook his head, "The price of this perfect immortality is simply too great, and the conditions are extremely harsh, sacrificing twelve to achieve it for one."
Gu Fan thought about it and realized it would be impossible to popularize this perfect form of immortality on a large scale.
Ao Sai added, "But the Destiny Stone led you to those three experiment bases, let you witness the capabilities of our ancient Super Civilization, put you through so much, have you comprehended anything?"
Gu Fan shook his head, "Apart from having my eyes opened, all that’s left is heart palpitations."
Suddenly, Gu Fan thought of a question, "My friend, you can choose not to tell me what mission the Destiny Stone has given me, but how does the Destiny Stone arrange all of this? It can’t possibly control a person’s fate."
"In fact, fate can be calculated through certain laws, without ever controlling a person’s life," Ao Sai looked towards the screen that also displayed a family.
The parents of the family were taking care of identical twins, with faces brimming with joyful smiles, a harmonious family of four.
Ao Sai said, "The same parents, identical twins, so why do their personalities turn out so differently later on? Have you ever thought about such a question?"
"This?" Gu Fan furrowed his brow, feeling he was on the verge of key insight.
Ao Sai continued to explain, "Because at a certain moment, something a parent says or does to the twins will influence their ensuing personalities. For example, one of them does something wrong and gets scolded by their parents, who later realize this method of discipline was wrong. Thus with the other who errs, the parents switch to criticism instead."
Gu Fan suddenly understood, "It’s experience. Different experiences lead to different personalities and different ways of thinking. Faced with situations, people make different decisions, and different decisions trigger different lives."
Ao Sai nodded, "Correct. Our ancient Super Civilization’s database can gather the growth experiences of hundreds of billions of people, then calculate the best possible life experiences, hence the birth of the Destiny Stone."
Although thus explained, Gu Fan had a rough understanding, but he felt more puzzled, "Wait a minute, my childhood environment wasn’t given to me by the Destiny Stone. It was my grandfather, my parents who provided it. It has nothing to do with the Destiny Stone."
Ao Sai remained emotionless, "As I’ve said before, the Destiny Stone can calculate people’s experiences, including what they will be like when they grow up, what kind of job they’ll find when they graduate, as well as marriage and childbirth, and even through calculation, it’s possible to know these two people will cross paths in the future."
The more Gu Fan heard, the more mystical it seemed, "So, based on calculations, the Destiny Stone can predict that I will meet Lin Xi after going to university, and due to Lin Xi, I will embark on an incredible adventure."
"That could be said," Ao Sai’s answer left Gu Fan half-convinced, unsure whether the Destiny Stone had calculated Gu Fan’s fate or if someone was controlling Gu Fan’s fate along a predetermined path.
Gu Fan had wanted to uncover the secrets of the Destiny Stone, but now he felt even more confused. Could the ancient Super Civilization indeed achieve such a feat? Could trillions of data be summarized to foresee what a person would experience in the future?
Ao Sai elaborated, "Although everyone has their unique experiences, there are similar experiences among people. These similarities are what we study."
After hearing this, Gu Fan considered it and thought it made sense. According to psychology, many people with similar personalities had similar childhood experiences.
"No, even if childhood experiences are similar, leading to similar personalities, people with similar personalities don’t all share the same fate. How can the Destiny Stone calculate that?" Gu Fan still felt something was amiss, even suspecting Ao Sai of deceiving him.
Ao Sai explained, "Similar experiences mean the parents and the environment are comparable, plus cultural and linguistic differences, among others. We compile various data and calculate a person’s entire life. Please don’t underestimate the power of ancient Super Civilization; even immortality is within our grasp, let alone the calculation of a person’s fate through data summary."
"That sounds somewhat reasonable," Gu Fan pretended to be convinced but remained skeptical, feeling Ao Sai was hiding something.
Then getting to serious matters, since Gu Fan was tied up and couldn’t move, he humbly requested with a smile, "Brother Ao Sai, since we’re practically family, and since the Destiny Stone you created has given me a mission, I’d be happy to help you fulfill it, but right now, I can’t do anything."
Ao Sai didn’t need to do anything, he just stood there looking at Gu Fan, his cold gaze utterly void of emotion, making Gu Fan’s skin crawl.
Suddenly the restraints on Gu Fan’s hands and feet were released, and he could move again, immediately feeling energized, "Thank you, brother. I wonder if I could shake your hand."
"We don’t have much time, this spacecraft cannot fall into the hands of Organization X, it can only be in your possession. Everything in this spaceship belongs only to you. If you cannot defeat Organization X, then I choose to self-destruct," Ao Sai’s words indeed gave Gu Fan a jolt, sensing the gravity of the situation.
Gu Fan quickly inquired, "Then why didn’t you let the spacecraft self-destruct before, waiting for me instead?"
Ao Sai replied, "Because our plan was to wait for the one chosen by the Destiny Stone to arrive, so I couldn’t let the spacecraft self-destruct. Also, Organization X has not yet uncovered the core secrets of this spacecraft."
"Is that so." Gu Fan suddenly felt this unexpected gain was too surprising, and too big. Not only could he defeat Organization X, but he could also acquire a spacecraft.
Wait, there’s no such thing as a free lunch. They wouldn’t just let you take a spacecraft for nothing. The same question arises, what kind of fate has the Destiny Stone arranged for Gu Fan, or what mission does the ancient Super Civilization actually want Gu Fan to complete?
Gu Fan couldn’t figure this out and felt as if he was walking into a trap someone else had set.
So Gu Fan decided to play his cards unconventionally, "Sorry, I’m not particularly interested in a spaceship. Suddenly, I don’t want to take down Organization X anymore. I want to get along with them peacefully."
