"All right, I’m going to catch up with a couple of friends, you go ahead," Li said, and then he left Gu Fan behind.

Gu Fan wanted to say something but saw Li had already walked towards them, so Gu Fan tactfully chose not to disturb them.

However, Gu Fan overheard their conversation; it seemed like Li was saying something about having a few drinks at his place before they left.

At first, Gu Fan didn’t think much of it, but after he returned to his residence, he suddenly remembered something. Since Li’s place had been designated as a secret location, it was necessary to check the living conditions of the surrounding area by observing the lights at night.

Looking at the late hour, Gu Fan decided to take another look around Li’s place.

When he got there, Gu Fan saw a truck parked in front of Li’s house, probably belonging to Li’s two friends, the ones transporting some cargo. Were they there to eat and drink something before leaving?

Gu Fan concentrated on the surrounding houses and noticed that the lights were on, meaning there were neighbors around, which didn’t align with the criteria for a secret residence. Lin Xi and Su Hui were so beautiful that they would attract attention the moment they stepped out, and surely they would be discovered by Organization X.

Just as Gu Fan was about to abandon this idea and start looking for another secret location, he suddenly noticed Li approaching the truck but not from inside the house.

Gu Fan realized something was off and quickly hid to see what Li was really up to.

All he saw was Li opening the truck’s cargo area and then snapping his fingers.

"There’s a situation!" Gu Fan frowned and, after waiting a while, saw a woman come out from the side of the house, moving in the same direction as Li.

Gu Fan surmised that both Li and the woman had come out of a window. But why? Did they not want to be seen?

No, that couldn’t be right. Gu Fan noted that since the lights were on in the surrounding houses, Li and the woman’s movements would still be seen.

Gu Fan quickly understood that Li and the woman didn’t want the truck drivers to see them; were those drivers inside the house drinking?

He then saw Li and the woman searching for something on and under the truck. The woman at times slithered under the truck and then emerged, shaking her head as if things were not going well.

In an instant, Gu Fan grasped what Li and the woman were planning—they were trying to smuggle the woman out using the truck.

The checks in and out of Dark City were very strict, even for vehicles of the Xue Clan. Gu Fan knew this well, as he and Li had gone out twice, and each time they were thoroughly searched.

Their efforts seemed to be failing, so Li and the woman gave up and retreated to the side of the house, probably planning to climb back in through the window.

Unfortunately, just then, two vehicles marked with the insignia of Organization X approached from different directions, on patrol.

One car passed by the front entrance of Li’s house and spotted Li and a woman near the truck, though they were too far to see what the woman looked like.

The other vehicle passed Li’s back entrance, effectively ruling out Li’s plan to return through the back door.

At that moment, the two cargo staff, in the middle of drinking, noticed that Li had been gone to the bathroom for an unusually long time and hadn’t come back. One of them also wanted to use the bathroom but found the door on the first floor locked with no response, so he went upstairs to look for another one.

The other started wandering around Li’s house just casually.

The woman seemed to realize this and didn’t dare go back directly, fearing that the two men would see her the moment she entered the house.

Jumping to the third floor would have been too conspicuous, easily spotted by the patrolling members of Organization X.

Yet, if they didn’t move, Li and the woman would still be spotted by the approaching patrol vehicles.

Time was of the essence, and without a moment to spare, Li took the woman in another direction away from his house. But as they turned a corner, they bumped into Gu Fan, who was hiding there.

"Why are you..." Li was surprised, and Gu Fan could only offer an awkward smile, "I couldn’t sleep, and I was bored, so I thought I’d find you for a drink, but really, I didn’t see anything."

At this point, Li couldn’t think too much about it. If they didn’t run, they would be seen by the patrolling members of Organization X.

The patrolling members, having already sighted Li and the woman as suspicious from a distance, sped up to chase after them, which made Li very anxious.

Gu Fan walked out confidently, appearing to be in a hurry.

The patrolling members, initially chasing the suspicious pair, shifted their attention to Gu Fan when they saw him.

Instead of running, Gu Fan greeted the patrollers and flashed his membership with Organization X, even asking to borrow a lighter to smoke a cigarette, deliberately taking his time.

Having confirmed Gu Fan’s identity, the patrol didn’t question further and let him go.

Meanwhile, Li and the woman had made several twists and turns through the streets before doubling back to Li’s house from another direction.

Li was the first to climb back in through a window on the ground floor, returning to the bathroom and calling out to his friends to keep drinking.

The woman seized the moment to return to the house through a second-floor window, thus avoiding detection.

Late at night, after the two cargo workers left, Li was tense and wore a heavy expression on his face. He was waiting, with a premonition that Gu Fan would return.

Sure enough, after the truck drove away, Gu Fan knocked on Li’s door.

"You’re here!" Li said somberly, not looking very welcoming as he opened the door.

Gu Fan walked in, noting the messy table still covered with the remnants of their meal, and could smell the alcohol on Li.

The woman also came downstairs, looking sternly at Gu Fan as if she was ready to act if he did anything unusual.

"So, is this the cat you’ve been keeping?" Gu Fan joked with a smile, while Li just dryly chuckled, "Thanks for tonight, you helped me out. But, I want to know what you’re doing near my house this late at night?"

"We’ll discuss that topic in a moment," Gu Fan said, feigning great interest in the woman.

The woman, made uneasy by his gaze, snapped, "What are you looking at? Haven’t you ever seen a beautiful woman before?"

Li was nervous, sensing a hint of ill intent in Gu Fan’s eyes.

"If I’m not mistaken, you’re Xue Xue, whom everyone thought had escaped Dark City. Turns out you’ve been hiding here all along. Hello, my name is Tai, we’re meeting for the first time. I hope we can cooperate in the future," Gu Fan said politely, but the corner of his mouth curved up, his interest in Xue Xue growing stronger.
