Chapter 1404: Chapter 1404: News from a Friend
"What is this?" Xue Yin said with disdain, "Who wins trust by threatening others?"
After pondering for a moment, Xue Yin asked, "I can trust you, but first tell me your name."
"In Dark City, my identity card is Tai. You can call me Tai," Gu Fan’s words conveyed one thing: he had a hidden identity.
Xue Yin frowned. She could hear the implication, but it was the equivalent of saying nothing at all. How could she trust him?
"Alright, it seems our talk has broken down. I will go call someone," Gu Fan said, and then he tried to walk away.
Xue Yin pounced directly on him. Although she no longer had her terrifying power, she was still a vampire, and she lunged at Gu Fan with her fangs bared and claws slashing.
However, Gu Fan was not the same as before. Ordinary vampires were no match for him now. No matter how Xue Yin tried to bite and tear, she could not injure him in the slightest.
"Your flesh is so tough," Xue Yin said in disbelief, then she was twisted by the arm by Gu Fan and pinned to the ground.
Gu Fan pressed his knee against Xue Yin’s back and warned sternly, "Tell me, do you want to be handed over to Organization X, or do you want to trust me? You’ve gone through so much trouble to escape from the Tower of Darkness, you wouldn’t want to go back, would you?"
Xue Yin snorted coldly, "You are just a nobody in Organization X. Knowing such a big secret of Organization X, aren’t you afraid?"
"If I were afraid, would I have wasted so much time talking with you?" Gu Fan’s expression became more serious, "Your time is running out, and my patience is limited. You might as well tell the secrets of Organization X for the good of us all."
Xue Yin sensed that this guy called Tai was definitely not a simple nobody from Organization X; he seemed very keen to learn the secrets of Organization X.
After hesitating for a moment, Xue Yin compromised, "Fine, since you’re not afraid of death, I might as well tell you. But first, let me get up."
Gu Fan released her and let Xue Yin get up, even politely straightening the bedsheet draped over her, looking like a new gentleman, very considerate and caring.
"Enough, enough, stop being so pretentious," Xue Yin pushed Gu Fan away, her gaze stern, "Initially, I was just a vampire in Organization X, of no significance, doing trivial tasks. I thought that would be my life. But then, something happened. Several vampire friends of mine were temporarily pulled in for a mission, and they never returned."
Gu Fan interjected, "Did you try to find out what kind of mission it was, but your status gave you no right to know, right?"
Xue Yin nodded, "Yes, the higher-ups in Organization X ignored me, and they kept taking away my friends. Gradually, I was left all alone."
"Organization X always issues passes for missions, all of which go through the Dark Door." Gu Fan’s words hit the mark, and that’s what Xue Yin had done as well.
Xue Yin went on, "I knew someone in charge of issuing passes. He told me he never made any for my friends’ supposed missions, which means my friends were still in Dark City, but their whereabouts unknown."
Upon hearing this, Gu Fan frowned, "Then what’s the reason you became so special?"
Xue Yin sighed, a look of profound sorrow in her eyes, "I had a feeling that soon Organization X would come for me, to have me go on a mission like my friends’, and today they indeed did."
"Actually, Organization X has always been refining the vampire’s physique, conducting endless experiments on vampires. My friends became guinea pigs and are now living a fate worse than death. The moment I was taken to the lab, I began to hate this organization."
Gu Fan looked attentive, "Good, I dislike this organization too. Keep going."
Xue Yin paused, slightly taken aback, wondering who this Tai really was and why he seemed to be at odds with Organization X.
Xue Yin didn’t overthink it and continued, "The people from Organization X tied me up and injected me with another person’s blood. It is said that this person escaped alive from a forbidden place, carrying a substance in his bloodstream that might enhance vampire abilities."
"Ah, I see, so you could turn into that form, which isn’t quite like a beauty," Gu Fan said while making an expression of regret.
Seeing Gu Fan’s disappointed face, Xue Yin retorted irritably, "Please, I didn’t want to turn into this, and could you stop interrupting me? Will you let me finish?"
Gu Fan promptly made an apologetic gesture, "Alright, alright, my apologies, keep going."
Xue Yin collected herself, organizing her words, "After being injected with that special blood, I felt a transformation in my body, as if a fire was burning within. My strength grew, making me feel as though I had the entire world in my control."
Gu Fan was puzzled, "If Organization X is the one that made you powerful, why would you want to escape?"
"Because they wanted to conduct further experiments on me, which I refused. So, I directly turned on the people of Organization X and even killed one of the Xue Clan," Xue Yin said with a vicious look as though reliving the ferocious scene filled her with endless rage.
Gu Fan was shocked, "What? You killed one of the Xue Clan; no wonder Organization X is so desperate to hunt you down."
Xue Yin smiled, a profound meaning in her smile, "Are you scared now? I killed a member of the Xue Clan, and you didn’t immediately arrest me to hand over to Organization X. Do you know the consequences?"
Gu Fan responded directly, "I don’t care about the consequences. I just want to know who that person is, why his blood was so special. Do you remember any features about him?"
Xue Yin recalled carefully, "I don’t know him; he was unconscious in the lab. He looked very ordinary and had Eastern features, similar to yours."
At first, Gu Fan didn’t care, just responding with a "hmm," but then he suddenly remembered – Eastern people who had been to the forbidden place and survived were rare except for them.
"Could it be..." Gu Fan immediately took out his phone, searching desperately for a photo.
"Take a look, is it this person?" Gu Fan showed Xue Yin the photo on his phone, and she recognized him immediately, "Yes, that’s him. But why do you have a photo with him? Who exactly are you?"
"Really? Even though he was unconscious, he was still alive, right?" Gu Fan said excitedly, gripping Xue Yin’s arm, his eyes filled with hope.
Xue Yin stiffly nodded, "Yes, he was still alive, you..."
"Rest assured, from now on, you, I will definitely protect you," Gu Fan stated firmly, incredibly thankful for Xue Yin bringing news that Jie was still alive.
