Chapter 1398: Chapter 1398 Another Intruder

Gu Fan returned to his temporary residence and quickly located the documents related to Tai, which had been organized by the bespectacled man.

Everyone who came to Dark City had to fill out some information, such as background on their past lives, and all these details were stored by Organization X.

Gu Fan’s current identity was Tai, and he had to know everything about Tai’s past to avoid being at a loss when questioned by Organization X.

He had to thank the bespectacled man, who not only helped Gu Fan obtain Tai’s identity but also wrote down some things about Tai based on contacts in his life. He did this from memory to let Gu Fan memorize them thoroughly.

After joining Organization X, Gu Fan had been subjected to a simple interrogation, which he had bluffed his way through, becoming a subordinate of Catherine.

But now things were different. Gu Fan had completed several missions outstandingly and had even saved Xue Long once; he was definitely under close scrutiny and would be subjected to a thorough review, so he needed more information related to Tai.

Gu Fan once again memorized Tai’s documents thoroughly, treating them as part of his own memory. Then he began to rehearse mentally how he would respond if Organization X questioned him again.

"Good!" After memorizing the information, Gu Fan burned Tai’s documents directly, as they absolutely must not be seen by Organization X.

He then headed straight for the bespectacled man’s residence since the latter had only been able to recall so much last time and had promised to write down more about Tai once remembered, to organize it for Gu Fan.

Gu Fan couldn’t wait; he needed more information related to Tai.

Luckily, the bespectacled man was at home. Seeing Gu Fan run over breathlessly, he thought something had gone wrong.

Fortunately, Gu Fan was only there for the documents, and the bespectacled man had also organized a new batch, which was just what Gu Fan needed.

The tall man asked in detail why Gu Fan was so urgently in need of more information about Tai and if something had happened.

Gu Fan shared his concerns about performing too well and attracting the attention of Organization X.

After knowing the reason, the bespectacled man couldn’t help frowning, "I’m saying, Gu Fan, we helped you get Tai’s identity and information, you should be keeping a low profile."

Gu Fan also looked troubled, "I do want to keep a low profile, but the situation doesn’t allow it. If I don’t complete the tasks assigned by Catherine, the consequences would be even more severe."

Hearing this, the bespectacled man and the tall man couldn’t help but sigh. After all, it was because Gu Fan had helped them that Catherine had taken notice of him. When it came down to it, it wasn’t Gu Fan’s fault.

Gu Fan was glad that the two were so understanding and knew that they were all now in the same boat.

"Strange, where’s muscleman?" Just as Gu Fan was wondering, a voice full of vigor rang out, "Look everyone, guess who’s here."

The door was pushed open by muscleman, and behind him stood someone, a person with an innocent face.

Gu Fan recognized this person, and they recognized each other too. They exchanged glances and were both stunned.

"Ouyang Jin, what are you doing here!" Gu Fan gradually got a bad feeling.

Ouyang Jin shook his head and chuckled bitterly, "No choice, the surveillance outpost was taken over. Su Hui and Lin Xi thought it was time to support you, so they arranged for me to come first as a scout. I was against it at the time because it was too dangerous, but they agreed to my demand for a price increase, and with the added threat of force, I caved in and agreed." After saying that, Ouyang Jin scratched his head.

Gu Fan looked at him with disdain, "You sell yourself for a bit of money, do you have to be so unprincipled?"

Ouyang Jin got angry, "You think I want to do this? Those two women are terrifying, do you have any idea how much pressure I was under? I figured I’d be forced in eventually, so why not ask for a raise?"

"That sounds quite reasonable." At this point, Gu Fan could only accept the situation and asked, "So, how did you manage to get in?"

Ouyang Jin took out an identification card for Dark City and an access pass, which they had found on some prisoners after taking over the surveillance outpost.

Gu Fan examined the identity card closely and noticed that the photo somewhat resembled Ouyang Jin; it was no wonder he had been sent directly.

"You actually passed the inspection at the Dark Gate." Gu Fan was amazed, feeling that the security checks there were very strict.

In response, Ouyang Jin shrugged his shoulders, "They looked at my documents, thought it was me, and just asked me one question: why was I returning from my cozy post at the surveillance outpost? I pulled out a bunch of supplies, saying they were purchases for my brothers’ use – after all, Dark City is in dire need of supplies – and I gifted some of the supplies to the gatekeepers, and then I was let in just like that."

"That worked!" Gu Fan was astonished, but then he understood; after all, the gatekeepers were simply following orders, strictly controlling access but were inherently lazy at heart.

Ouyang Jin scratched his head, "Actually, Lin Xi, Sister Su, and even Irina and doomsayer Lu Yi are coming too. They’re in the shadows protecting me. If my identity is compromised, they’d intervene to save me. Luckily, I wasn’t exposed; I actually managed to blend in. I’m so unlucky."

"It’s fine, whatever will be, will be." Gu Fan comforted Ouyang Jin, then suddenly remembered something, "Wait, you just said Lin Xi and Sister Su agreed to your raise request. How much did you raise the price?"

Ouyang Jin answered earnestly, "For such a risky job, a price hike is fair, I only asked for a fifty percent increase."

"Damn it, I never agreed to that; twenty percent is the maximum." Gu Fan insisted firmly, only to see Ouyang Jin’s excited expression, "Is that so? Well, then it’s settled, a twenty percent rise. Thanks, boss."

"What’s going on!" Gu Fan saw Ouyang Jin looking as if his cunning plans had succeeded, feeling like he’d been tricked.

In fact, Lin Xi and Su Hui never agreed to increase Ouyang Jin’s price; they simply told him to negotiate the price with Gu Fan once he got to Dark City.

Ouyang Jin, knowing what kind of person he was, realized that once he was in Dark City, he would lose the leverage to negotiate. So, he formulated a plan to swindle Gu Fan into agreeing to the raise.

"Damn you!" Gu Fan guessed this was possible and felt a wave of disappointment; despite being cautious, Ouyang Jin had successfully managed to get his raise.

Ouyang Jin patted Gu Fan on the shoulder, "Cheer up, let’s get down to business. Lin Xi, Sister Su, Irina, and doomsayer Lu Yi are all coming. Have you thought of a plan?"

"This..." Gu Fan stroked his chin and began to think of a feasible plan, but he still felt it risky to have everyone come in.
