Those Classmates who Suddenly Disappeared -
Chapter 1381: The Reason for Escaping
Chapter 1381: Chapter 1381: The Reason for Escaping
Five hours of lengthy waiting had passed. Everyone else was incredibly tense, worried the enemy might attack at any moment. But Gu Fan had already found a good spot to sleep.
Li shook his head, unable to hold back his comment, "Buddy, you’re way too relaxed."
Gu Fan’s theory was simple. As long as the people sent out as bait hadn’t returned, the enemy wouldn’t show up so there was no need to tie himself up in knots with tension.
Another hour went by when the sound of a car engine came from outside the warehouse. Several people immediately ran out to check.
"Sorry, got a bit carried away having fun, so we’re back late," said a male and female vampire as they stepped out of the car, cheerful and light-footed with confident grins on their faces.
Gu Fan heard the commotion too, knowing the male and female vampires had returned. He opened his eyes, stretched, yawned, and braced himself for the critical moment ahead.
"What were you two doing out there?" Li asked immediately, clearly very anxious.
The male vampire replied, "Just bouncing around in the club, fooling around, and then lured a few people to a corner, you know the drill."
The female vampire added, "After leaving the club, we found a deserted alley and grabbed a few people to enjoy a feast."
Hearing this, Gu Fan furrowed his brows. He disliked vampires’ disregard for life, feasting on the flesh and blood of humans. If it weren’t for being compelled, he would never associate with such individuals.
On the other hand, Li thought differently. He had often secretly felt grateful for joining Organization X, as he might have otherwise ended up as vampire fodder.
"Enough talk, let’s beef up security," Gu Fan stood up, his focus sharp, his posture straight, shrugging off his previous lethargy as if he had become a different person.
However, those around him were dismissive. In their eyes, Gu Fan wasn’t their superior, so why should they listen to this young guy?
Two people armed with guns went outside to patrol. They were cautious, lingering at the main entrance for a moment to peek around and make sure everything was clear before daring to head out.
Just a short while later, several screams echoed from outside, making everyone’s heart race and their bodies tense up.
"Attention everyone, the enemy is here!" Gu Fan had barely finished speaking when people from Organization X quickly found hiding spots and aimed their guns at the main entrance.
Gu Fan looked around and realized there were no hiding places left, thinking to himself how quick these people were to act.
An eerie silence enveloped the area as everyone gripped their weapons tightly, holding their breath and staring at the door, not daring to be careless.
After a long wait, with no sight of an enemy rushing in, everyone was confused about what to do next. Should they continue the standoff or send someone out to scout?
"You two, go out and check," a core member ordered Gu Fan and Li to take the risk.
Li immediately protested, "What are you doing? We’re under Catherine, not you. You don’t have the right to order us."
"Are you going or not?" the people around them aimed their guns at Gu Fan and Li, their posture clearly saying they would shoot if they refused.
Seeing his own allies coerce them in such a way, Li clenched his teeth in anger. Annoyed as he was, he had no choice.
Gu Fan patted Li’s shoulder and said, "Let’s just go. There’s nothing to be afraid of."
"But..." Li hesitated, then saw Gu Fan stride confidently towards the door, completely unfazed.
Li was perplexed, and so were the others who witnessed it, wondering to themselves if Gu Fan truly felt no fear.
"Fine, I’ll stake my life for the cause," Li decided, bolting out to catch up with Gu Fan.
The two of them walked out of the warehouse one after the other, finding the outside area filled with numerous vehicles, all belonging to Organization X, and nothing else beyond that.
Li immediately turned around, aiming his gun at the rooftops, finding nothing.
Gu Fan did a lap around the outside space, looking here and there, his expression one of surprise and confusion, "Strange, where did the two who were outside go? If they were taken out, then..."
"Yeah, where are they?" Li’s hand trembled slightly as he held his gun, the silence around him sending chills down his spine.
Suddenly, a crow burst out from a dark corner and swooped between them, startling both men, with Li nearly firing his gun.
"Damn, it was just a bird, scared the crap out of me," Li breathed a sigh of relief, only to suddenly feel as if something whizzed past his back.
He quickly turned to see nothing there, yet the sensation persisted as if something was lurking around them.
It wasn’t just Li. Gu Fan felt it too. He was trained and had higher alertness, yet he couldn’t detect what the enemy had done.
"Impressive, seems like we’re dealing with a master," Gu Fan started to limber up, the prospect of facing a formidable opponent making him eager.
Li, seeing Gu Fan’s readiness to fight, secretly wondered if he was not as simple as he seemed.
When Gu Fan caught Li’s curious gaze, he quickly realized that he couldn’t reveal his full strength in this fight. The more traits he exposed, the more people would start to suspect his true identity.
Gu Fan hastily adopted a fearful demeanor, "Maybe we should just drive off. We can’t be much help here anyway."
Li agreed, adding, "If the whole team gets wiped out, someone has to survive to bring back the news."
Gu Fan had to give him credit for the excuse, but suddenly felt a whooshing sound from behind. He quickly dodged to the side.
A tremendous force hit Gu Fan, sending him sprawling in an undignified heap.
Li watched in horror as he saw a masked figure flash by at incredible speed, possibly even faster than a vampire, and it shook him to the core.
Right then, all Li could think about was the origin of that fleeting figure, not even considering how Gu Fan was able to dodge most of the impact under those circumstances.
Gu Fan picked himself up from the ground, feeling a twinge in his shoulder. About to curse out loud, he suddenly heard continuous gunfire and agonized screams from inside the warehouse, filled with chaos and fear.
