Those Classmates who Suddenly Disappeared
Chapter 1338: Friend’s Friend

Chapter 1338: Chapter 1338: Friend’s Friend

The moment the door closed, the entire carriage plunged into darkness, so thick one could not see his own hands, and everyone’s heart sank.

The car started, and after a bumpy ride, it finally arrived at Dark Prison, where all the criminals from Dark City were detained, including ordinary humans and vampires.

The entrance to Dark Prison was a giant skull’s mouth, resembling the gates to hell. As one approached, there was a sensation of being devoured.

The rear compartment opened, and Organization X hastily demanded the hostages alight, their demeanor extremely harsh, even resorting to beating them with sticks.

Lu Yi and Ouyang Jin could only endure, thinking as long as they could escape, the beatings were bearable, hoping to suffer less later. They had done all they could, the rest was up to Gu Fan.

Another group from Organization X took over the management, unclear about the exact number of hostages, grabbing anyone they saw and sending them into Dark Prison.

After completing the transportation task, the car left, and Organization X did not notice anything unusual.

By nightfall, Gu Fan crawled out from a hidden compartment in the vehicle, gasping for air, as hiding there had been truly suffocating.

After cautiously scouting the surroundings, Gu Fan emerged to find himself in a garage, the location of which he did not know.

Gu Fan dared not walk out of the garage carelessly, as there were certainly surveillance cameras outside. Any abnormal behavior caught on camera would surely draw the deadly pursuit of Organization X.

"What to do?" Gu Fan frowned, clueless about his surroundings and uncertain of his next move in this unfamiliar place.

Suddenly, Gu Fan remembered something Ouyang Jin had mentioned, that vehicles Organization X used for transport were typically left on the streets after unloading, safe from theft. This created an opportunity for a group of people to approach these vehicles and steal items from the hidden compartments.

"Right! As long as the vehicles show no signs of tampering, they wouldn’t check the surveillance for what happened before, would they?" Gu Fan made up his mind, then pushed open the car door and confidently walked out.

As soon as he stepped out, Gu Fan found himself on a busy street, blending in seamlessly with the crowd, appearing as if he was just another person.

Without further consideration, Gu Fan adjusted his mindset and headed to the address Ouyang Jin had provided to find that group of people who, while turning their backs on Organization X, secretly removed materials from the trucks.

Dark City was neither too large nor too small, yet it was Gu Fan’s first time navigating its twists and turns, unable to find his destination, which almost drove him to desperation.

Although there were not many surveillance systems in Dark City, Gu Fan’s frequent appearances on various streets would certainly raise suspicions. If discovered by Organization X, all his previous efforts would be for naught.

Fortunately, fate favored Gu Fan as he eventually found the house. He took a few deep breaths and knocked on the door.

"Who is it?" A burly man opened the door, looking puzzled upon seeing Gu Fan, and asked, "May I ask who you are looking for?"

Gu Fan maintained a polite smile, "Hello, I was referred here by Ouyang Jin."

"You were sent by Ouyang Jin?" The burly man scrutinized Gu Fan carefully, then looked around to ensure safety before inviting him in.

Inside the house were two other men, one with glasses looking rather scholarly—let’s call him Glasses Man—and the other tall and skinny, at least 1.9 meters tall, so let’s call him Tall Man.

"Who are you?" Glasses Man was wary of Gu Fan, and Tall Man tensed up.

The burly man who opened the door quickly explained, "Don’t be nervous, he said he was sent by Ouyang Jin."

Hearing Ouyang Jin’s name, which sounded like a guarantee of trustworthiness, Glasses Man and Tall Man slowly relaxed their guard, though they still watched Gu Fan’s every move, still unclear about his background and disposition.

Gu Fan looked around and noticed some items stacked there. According to Ouyang Jin, through the truck’s hidden compartment, Ouyang Jin had helped smuggle quite a lot of materials in for these three men.

"What you guys have managed is impressive, thanks to Ouyang Jin, who has really found a way to keep you clothed and fed," Gu Fan commented while picking up and weighing some items. Although these things were common outside, they were considered precious in resource-scarce Dark City, worth their weight in gold.

Glasses Man then asked, "What’s your relationship with Ouyang Jin?"

"Well, we are both friends who trust each other through thick and thin and business partners with mutual interests," Gu Fan replied, smiling amiably but with a hint of deeper, complicated meanings behind his smile.

Gu Fan added, "I often seek Ouyang Jin’s help, and he is always willing to assist, although his service fees are a bit high."

Glasses Man frowned, "We received a letter in the recent batch of materials from Ouyang Jin’s side mentioning his plan to quietly bring a few people into Dark City and asking us to look after them. Could it be that you are..."

"That’s right, it must be me," Gu Fan replied, feeling secretly relieved. Although the plan had initially been dismissed, Ouyang Jin had thought it through and continued with it, proving it’s always better to be prepared.

Tall Man’s expression showed he was not very welcoming, and he spoke indifferently, "We don’t mind helping Ouyang Jin, but we don’t want to cause ourselves trouble. I’m not sure why you are here in Dark City, but you give off a dangerous vibe."

Gu Fan nodded, "Don’t worry, I don’t want to implicate you all. Just help me find a safe place to stay, and that will suffice. By not staying here, I can minimize my contact with you all."

"Alright, I know a place, I’ll take you there now," the burly man made a gesture of invitation, and Gu Fan, knowing better than to overstay his welcome, followed promptly.

Suddenly, the sound of his stomach growling embarrassed Gu Fan, "I’m sorry, could you perhaps help me just a little bit more? I’m quite hungry, could you spare some food?"

The burly man, Glasses Man, and Tall Man were somewhat lost for words, wondering how someone as complicated and unreliable as Gu Fan was actually sent here by Ouyang Jin.

Nevertheless, acting on the principle that less is more, without inquiring too much about Gu Fan’s purpose in Dark City, they provided him with food and water and quickly escorted him to another unoccupied house.
