Chapter 1337: Chapter 1337: Just Like That, Entered
After escaping the forbidden lands, Gu Fan focused on finding Jie’s whereabouts, setting his sights on Dark City.
If Jie was still alive, the most likely place for him to be was Dark City, so Gu Fan planned to try his luck there.
However, entering Dark City was a challenge, and just as Gu Fan pondered this, Organization X appeared and captured Lu Yi, Ouyang Jin, and others.
Gu Fan initially wanted to rescue his companions, but after weighing the pros and cons, he gave up the idea because this presented an excellent opportunity to infiltrate Dark City.
Therefore, Gu Fan made a plan to have Su Hui provoke a fight with the vampire warriors, to spark a conflict and create chaos, and in the midst of it, Gu Fan could seamlessly blend in unnoticed.
The plan was a success. In the chaos, Gu Fan swapped places with someone from the Hunter’s Guild and the vampire warriors, mistaking him for a previously taken hostage, captured Gu Fan, placing him with the other hostages to be transported to Dark City.
But this was a risky move because, even if Gu Fan successfully infiltrated Dark City as a hostage, what could he possibly achieve?
Along the way, Su Hui, Lin Xi, and Irina stealthily followed, constantly worried about the safety of Gu Fan and the others, fearing the vampire warriors might fly into a frenzy and tear Lu Yi, Ouyang Jin, and the rest to pieces.
After traveling for two days, Gu Fan, Lu Yi, Ouyang Jin, and the others were exhausted and couldn’t walk any further, yet they were still far from Dark City.
"You humans are really useless," some of the vampire warriors commented disdainfully and called over more of their kind.
Almost one vampire warrior per hostage, they leveraged their speed and strength to quickly cover ground and head straight for Dark City, significantly shortening the journey.
The sensation of running at a lightning-fast pace, with the wind howling in their ears and the scenery flashing by, was something most had never experienced before.
Lu Yi couldn’t help but exclaim, "Incredible, if only I had your abilities."
Hearing this, one of the vampire warriors laughed arrogantly, "That’s the difference between you common folk and us; we stand at the top of the food chain."
Suddenly, Lu Yi voiced a concern, "If you run so fast, can you stop in time? What if you trip or stumble? Could you sprain an ankle?"
The vampire warrior looked confused but, as he was running too fast, he kicked a rock and tripped, pulling Lu Yi down with him.
"What’s going on?" The other vampire warriors came over to check on their comrade but ended up tripping over each other, resulting in a pile-up.
Two other vampires, stunned by the sight, failed to notice their surroundings and collided head-on, leaving them seeing stars.
The elite vampire warriors had never encountered such a debacle, falling over while moving at high speed, looking utterly disheveled and abashed.
Ouyang Jin was dumbfounded, then looked at Lu Yi, who was equally stunned.
"Damn!" exclaimed Gu Fan, impressed by this doomsayer’s power, even the vampires couldn’t withstand it. At the same time, he pondered how to break free after entering Dark City; he couldn’t remain a hostage forever.
Regrouping, they resumed their journey. The vampires, relying on their resilience, ignored their recent falls and continued to usher the hostages at high speed.
Finally, after a long and arduous journey, they arrived at Dark City.
Gu Fan was instantly captivated by the imposing black walls; their dark, hellish presence, paired with the dense clouds overhead and the chilling wind, was truly frightening and sent shivers down his spine.
"We’re here," said the vampire warriors, setting the hostages down and forcing them to enter through the main gates.
Organization X was waiting in full force at the gates, maintaining order with many on duty, and surveillance cameras were trained on those entering and exiting.
Now, the hostages were lining up to enter Dark City, with Gu Fan at the end of the queue, getting anxious. Once inside, his face would be captured by the cameras.
However, Gu Fan believed, as long as those monitoring the surveillance didn’t recognize him, they would not realize he had infiltrated their ranks.
As long as nothing was amiss, Xue Wang, Lord Xiong, Mo Yun, and others wouldn’t bother checking the cameras.
After all hostages entered Dark City in order, they were initially corralled into a corner to await transport.
Gu Fan, Lu Yi, and Ouyang Jin sat together, whispering amongst themselves.
"What do you think Organization X will use to transport so many of us?" Gu Fan’s question was out of the blue, confusing Ouyang Jin, who simply replied, "Some kind of large transport truck, I suppose."
"Like those trucks you sold to Organization X before, the ones with hidden compartments," Gu Fan said with a slight smile.
Realization dawned on Ouyang Jin, "Yeah, the initial plan to sneak into Dark City involved modifying such trucks to hide a person in a secret compartment and then silently infiltrate."
Gu Fan asked another question, "The plan was canceled, but had you already done the work before it was scrapped?"
Ouyang Jin’s expression showed pessimism, "I ordered the shop to make the modifications, but whether they followed through or sold the trucks to Organization X after I left, I don’t know."
"Then we’ll just have to take a chance," Gu Fan conceded, aware they had left in too much of a hurry, and only fate would tell whether the plan had been executed.
Soon, a truck approached—the kind Organization X commonly used for transporting goods, and it looked fairly new, suggesting it might have been purchased recently.
If Gu Fan was to break free, it all hinged on whether this truck could aid him; for now, he could only chant his Hocus Pocus and hope for the best.
When the truck arrived and the cargo hold opened, Gu Fan, Lu Yi, and Ouyang Jin eagerly stepped in first, aiming to secure good spots.
The vampire warriors found Gu Fan, Lu Yi, and Ouyang Jin’s eagerness suspicious, but didn’t give it much thought, as the mission was simply to escort hostages—not a complex task.
As they entered the truck, Ouyang Jin quickly located the hidden compartment, and the hopeful look on his face suggested this gave them a chance.
Other hostages also steadily moved into the vehicle, and along the way, several noticed Gu Fan among them but remained silent out of trust, believing he could lead them to freedom once again.
