Those Classmates who Suddenly Disappeared -
Chapter 1309: Still Discovered
Chapter 1309: Chapter 1309: Still Discovered
At this moment, Gu Fan was trying hard to control his limbs and breathing rate, making every effort not to make a sound. He didn’t know whether the three-eyed monster’s hearing was acute, but he didn’t want to take any chances.
It was very dark here, with no light shining in; if he turned on his flashlight, it would be tantamount to telling the monster, "I am here." Therefore, Gu Fan could only cautiously feel his way along the wall.
Should he suddenly find himself no longer touching a wall while walking, it would mean he was either at a corner or a place similar to an intersection. Gu Fan would quickly turn on the flashlight and then swiftly turn it off after catching a glimpse of the surroundings.
"If only I had night vision goggles!" Gu Fan sighed as he took out a dagger, intending to carve a mark at the corner of the wall.
But the wall was too hard, and it was difficult for the dagger to leave a mark. Gu Fan exerted a lot of effort and, accidentally, the dagger fell from his hand.
At that instant, the sound of the dagger hitting the ground was more terrifying than thunder. Gu Fan held his breath in a flash, his heartbeat quickened, and cold sweat broke out.
After a long wait, when nothing abnormal happened, Gu Fan took a slow, gentle deep breath and then picked up the dagger to continue scratching on the wall.
"Please bless me; I beg that nothing disrupts my work at this time," Gu Fan prayed in his heart a thousand, ten thousand times until the task was finally completed.
Gu Fan didn’t breathe a sigh of relief; this was his tenth mark. The place was large; to make sure everyone noticed, he would need to carve many more marks.
When Gu Fan arrived at a crossroads and had carved a mark, he stood in the center of the intersection, unsure of which direction to take next.
Just then, Gu Fan faintly heard some heavy footsteps, and his heart tightened immediately. He quickly lay down on the ground to listen.
"What a tough situation!" Gu Fan didn’t know what was approaching, so he quickly found a hiding spot.
The three-eyed monster arrived at the crossroads. It looked around for a moment, choosing a path while also pricking its ears to listen for any movements.
If the three-eyed monster chose to go left, it would see the door after turning a corner. Unfortunately, Gu Fan happened to be hiding in the room just behind that door.
A low sound began to resonate; the three-eyed monster was closing in. Gu Fan panicked, thinking to himself that he couldn’t escape fate if it was coming for him.
The door was pushed open forcefully, and the massive head of the three-eyed monster peered in. It was a small, empty room—easy to scan with a glance.
Gu Fan’s position was directly above the doorway, his hands and feet pressing against the walls as he tried his hardest to flatten himself against the wall behind him. This put him in the monster’s blind spot, so he remained unseen.
Seeing no one, the three-eyed monster withdrew. At this critical moment, a drop of sweat trickled from Gu Fan and fell toward the creature’s head, which made Gu Fan extremely nervous.
Fortune smiled upon Gu Fan, as the monster took a step back just then, and the sweat missed its head, dropping onto the ground instead.
"Thank heavens!" Gu Fan had escaped danger but continued to control his breathing and calm his racing heart.
After a long wait, making sure the three-eyed monster had walked far away, Gu Fan descended to the ground, feeling a rush of relief. It would have been problematic to fight in such a cramped room had the monster discovered him.
After some time, Gu Fan exited the room. He felt the floor and discovered claw marks on a section of the ground, which allowed him to discern the monster’s direction. Gu Fan immediately retreated in the opposite direction.
Believing that the three-eyed monster had gone far and that he was moving in an opposite direction in such a large space, the likelihood of encountering it again was low. So Gu Fan quickened his pace, and while still being cautious, he began to mark more rapidly, trying to make the least amount of noise possible.
The biggest problem Gu Fan now faced was the numerous corridors; it was impossible for him to explore each one in a short period. He had no choice but to pick one route, mark it with enough signs, and make them clear enough.
As long as others reached this route and saw Gu Fan’s marks, then followed the marks to the only safe exit, they would be fine.
Gu Fan wasn’t sure how far he had walked. He felt he had made a large loop around this oval-shaped place, and perhaps, he might encounter the three-eyed monster if he kept going.
At that moment, Gu Fan heard someone using a flashlight at the other end of the hallway, so he quickly jogged over to check. It indeed turned out to be his own people.
"My God, Gu Fan, you’re still alive?" The mercenaries saw Gu Fan as if he was a savior, overjoyed and lost in their elation.
Gu Fan managed a weak smile, "Yeah, it’s me. Switch off the flashlights quickly, don’t attract the monster."
"Right!" The mercenaries quickly turned off their flashlights, and the darkness engulfed them once more.
Gu Fan informed the mercenaries that there were marks he had carved on the walls. After finding a mark with the flashlight, they should remember its direction, immediately turn off the flashlight, and then proceed along the direction of the mark in the dark, feeling the walls. Only at a corner or crossroads, when the direction of the mark was lost, could they turn on the flashlight to seek a new guiding mark.
The mercenaries nodded after hearing Gu Fan’s instructions and began to head toward the safe exit, following the direction indicated by the marks.
"Be extremely careful," Gu Fan warned them, then chose to continue forward. He wanted to carve more marks to help more people see them.
So far, Gu Fan hadn’t heard any gunshots or wails, indicating that everyone was hiding well, keeping their movements hidden from the three-eyed monster, and giving Gu Fan hope that more people would make it out alive.
But as time went on, it was inevitable that the monster would discover them, so Gu Fan had to work fast.
After some twists and turns and substantial effort, Gu Fan encountered five groups of people, including those who had fired at him earlier. Nevertheless, Gu Fan treated them all equally, bearing no grudge, informing them of the way out.
These five groups followed the marks as Gu Fan had instructed, and they were all grateful to him.
When it was time for the sixth group, as Gu Fan explained the importance of the markings, he noticed the terrified expressions of the people as they stared behind him, their faces as horrified as if they had seen a ghost, sending chills down his spine.
In the darkness, three ominous eyes suddenly appeared behind Gu Fan, followed by a series of low growls that sent shivers down his spine.
