Chapter 1307: The Child

Chapter 1307: Chapter 1307: The Child

At the beginning, the hunter and Lin Yue simply rode in the car driven by the assistant, thinking that the destination must not be far away, until they reached a more open area where there was a small airport, that was when the hunter and Lin Yue realized that this might be a long journey after all.

A plane was parked on the runway, and the hunter recognized it, it was one designated for the Hunter’s Guild, meant to efficiently transport personnel and materials to specific locations.

Looking at the plane, Lin Yue felt uneasy, "Where are we headed?"

"You’ll know when we get there," the assistant casually replied, then boarded the plane.

The hunter followed suit, and Lin Yue had no choice but to follow.

Once everyone was on board, the plane took off, soaring into the blue sky.

Inside the cabin, Lin Yue, watching the plane get further and further from the ground, still felt some concern, not knowing what trick the other party might have up their sleeve. Now that the plane was flying so high, they were completely at the other’s mercy.

Everyone sat facing each other, the assistant remained silent, and the hunter didn’t bother asking any more questions; both sides appeared calm. Eventually, the hunter simply closed his eyes to sleep.

"Master, you’re really composed," Lin Yue said, feeling the atmosphere a bit heavy. He then glanced at the female assistant, who was quite attractive and had a nice figure, and decided to strike up a conversation, "You’re Irina’s assistant, right? The last few times I saw Irina, I didn’t see you."

The female assistant coolly responded, "I usually don’t go out on field missions. I’m in charge of providing intelligence from the rear to ensure the smooth execution of the missions."

Lin Yue seemed very interested, "Oh, it’s relatively safer in the rear, but I believe everyone in the Hunter’s Guild is well-trained, and their skills must be decent."

"There was once a jerk who tried to hit on me, and I punched his nose crooked," the female assistant said expressionlessly. Her manner seemed to be a warning or a rejection, leaving Lin Yue feeling slightly awkward, uncertain how to continue the conversation.

After a day’s flight, they finally arrived at their destination. The three of them got off the plane and were awaited by a car that had been waiting for a long time, and there were several Hunter’s Guild members around.

Lin Yue was somewhat nervous, but the hunter simply said, "Let’s make the best of it."

"Let’s go!" Led by the female assistant, Lin Yue and the hunter got in the car and headed to their final destination.

They were now abroad, where heaven wouldn’t respond and earth wouldn’t care. Lin Yue looked out at the unfamiliar surroundings and remembered a news article about an incident that had happened in a city in this place.

After a long trek, the car arrived at a farm where they saw many children playing, filled with innocence and laughter.

"What is this place? I’ve never heard of the Hunter’s Guild having such a facility," the hunter said, frowning slightly, already guessing why they were brought here. His gaze began to search.

The female assistant spoke up, "All the children here are from the Hunter’s Guild. Some of their parents died on missions, while others left them here out of concern for the future."

"Oh, I get it, like a daycare center run by the Hunter’s Guild, and..." Lin Yue didn’t finish his sentence, as someone who had once run away from home, he could understand that feeling.

The female assistant looked indifferently at the hunter, then said, "You should have guessed why I brought you here."

"Irina had mentioned that she had a child for me and put the child in a safe place." At this point, the hunter was somewhat expectant, his breathing became slightly labored.

Suddenly, the hunter remembered something crucial and looked at the female assistant in shock, "I’ve asked Irina several times, but she never told me where the child was, so why suddenly let you bring me to see the child, and where is Irina, why didn’t she come herself?"

The female assistant added, "Irina originally didn’t want you to see the child, but her last mission was highly risky. Before she left, she specifically told me that if anything happened to her, she hoped the child could be entrusted to you."

"What do you mean, what happened to Irina?" The hunter was very anxious, clenching his fists.

The assistant’s expression turned sorrowful, "Irina’s last mission took her to Dark City, and it’s been quite some time since we’ve had any news from her or any other operatives, nearly half a month now. We fear that Irina and all of the others may have all been lost in Dark City."

The hunter became frantic, "What, you actually sent her to Dark City; you should know what kind of place that is."

"We do know, but it was the higher-ups’ decision." The assistant looked helpless.

"Idiots, messing around." The hunter couldn’t help but get enraged, kicking up a cloud of dirt.

At that moment, a kite fell, landing right in front of the hunter, then a clean-looking little boy came running over.

The hunter picked up the kite and took a good look at the boy, who bore a resemblance to Irina, which made him even more anxious.

"Excuse me, mister, can I have my kite back?" The little boy reached out his hand for the kite.

The hunter gave a slight smile and handed the kite to the boy, asking, "What’s your name?"

"My name is Will," the little boy answered, and then noticing some dirt on the kite, immediately began to wipe it off.

Seeing how much the boy cherished the kite, the hunter asked, "Do you really like this kite, who gave it to you?"

The little boy hummed in affirmation and nodded, "It was my mom’s gift to me. Every time she comes to see me, she brings me presents."

"Does your mom come to see you often?" After the hunter asked, he saw the boy’s expression darken, "My mom is always busy, she doesn’t have time to be with me. But whenever she does something good, she comes to see me, brings me gifts, tells me stories."

"Good, you must be a very sensible kid, so your mom must love you very much," the hunter said while handing the kite back to the boy.

"Thank you!" The boy was very polite, then holding the kite, he ran back to his friends.

Watching the boy’s lively and cheerful smile, the hunter felt a surge of melancholy, and then he glanced at the female assistant.

The female assistant nodded, affirming to the hunter that the little boy was indeed his and Irina’s child.

"I have a child, it’s really true." At that moment, the hunter felt an overwhelming joy he hadn’t felt in a long while. He wanted to shout, to rush over, to tell the little boy, "I am your father."
