Chapter 1276: Chapter 1276: The Injury is in an Awkward Place
First, they needed to identify a safe zone, which was already established. Next, they needed to lure the mad people into this safe zone and then bind them until they recovered their senses on their own, just like Ouyang Jin did.
As for how to do this, Gu Fan decided to risk his own life. He picked up a gas mask from one of the mercenaries’ equipment. He was about to enter the dangerous area to attract the attention of those mad people as much as possible.
"Everyone, get ready. I don’t know how many mad people this will draw. Don’t be scared into fleeing when the time comes." Having said this, Gu Fan put on the gas mask and headed straight toward the direction of the small lake.
Everyone really admired Gu Fan, as he always stood out to solve the problem whenever trouble arose.
General Horton saw that the people were increasingly leaning towards Gu Fan, which made Horton feel even worse. He said, "Okay, everyone focus. Gu Fan will be back at any moment. Just as he said, we still don’t know how many mad people will be drawn."
"I’m not afraid of anything except him attracting all the mad people at once," Lu Yi just finished saying when he saw Ouyang Jin’s dejected expression. He asked, "What’s wrong, man? You look so listless."
To this, Ouyang Jin gave a wry smile, "From now on, say whatever you want. I no longer want to care about your doomsayer comments. Let the storm come even more fiercely."
"How could that be? I refuse to believe that my predictions as a doomsayer are always accurate." Lu Yi firmly believed this, but what happened next shattered his confidence.
Everyone pointed to the front. "Look, isn’t that Gu Fan coming towards us?"
"It’s him, and he seems to be in a great hurry."
"Wait, it looks like something is chasing him."
"It’s those mad people, but there don’t seem to be many of them."
"If there aren’t many, does Gu Fan need to run so frantically?"
Everybody spoke while craning their necks to get a better view, but the deeper they looked, the more terrified they became. Initially, only a few mad people could be seen chasing Gu Fan because of the trees, but as they came closer, it was a big gang of mad people.
"What are you staring at? Run!" Gu Fan shouted in panic, and everyone started running frantically, trying to escape.
General Horton panicked, "Gu Fan, don’t bring them here. Run in another direction!"
"Trust me, I don’t want this either," Gu Fan said as he dashed past General Horton, grabbing his arm and dragging him along to escape.
General Horton looked back and saw several mad people almost catching up, their ferocious bearing causing him great alarm.
At this moment, Lin Xi and Su Hui were directing everyone during the escape: "Everyone stay calm, do not crowd, run together to one place, do not disperse, do not lie down and pretend to be dead. Remember, once we scatter, it will be hard to look after each other, and the mad people will follow and spread out as well, making it difficult to find each individual and reduce chances to rescue more of our comrades."
Everyone followed the lead, escaping together in a coordinated direction. The insane pursuers also did not fall behind, all heading in the same direction, which was exactly what Gu Fan had hoped for.
After encountering those mad people, Gu Fan had initially planned to lie down and play dead, avoiding the attacks from the mad people. However, his goal was to subdue them. Therefore, he had to start running to attract the mad people to a further place, far enough that these mad people, just like Ouyang Jin, would always stay in a safe area and gradually come to their senses on their own.
So, Gu Fan ran all over the place, exhausted himself, but finally drew the attention of the insane people. He managed to gather the lunatics dispersed over several areas and then led these mad people towards the main force.
Gu Fan needed everyone’s strength to cope with so many insane individuals; he couldn’t handle it alone. According to his plan, everyone was to lure the insane away to a farther place and then pretend to be dead by lying on the ground collectively.
However, this would cause the insane to lose their target and wander aimlessly. They would scatter, and even if they eventually regained their sanity, they would lose contact with the main force.
So, when everyone pretended to die, Gu Fan planned to keep a close watch on the mad to control their movements.
At this time, Su Hui and Lin Xi, who were speeding away with the main force, finally found a suitable battlefield. The surrounding trees were unevenly dispersed, and the terrain was somewhat sloped.
"This is it, everyone get ready." At the command of Su Hui and Lin Xi, everyone understood immediately, ran up the slope, and stood up straight, intentionally letting the crazed see them.
The lunatics, seeing a group of people waving at them, launched an aggressive attack. But they encountered a pronounced descent and couldn’t charge smoothly — they used a lot of effort just to climb up.
The terrain was extremely advantageous for Gu Fan and his group. The movements of the crazed climbing up were stiff, and their clumsy efforts took some time. Often, when a madman finally made it up, several people would restrain him, tie him up, and toss him aside.
The insane didn’t calmly think things through; whenever they saw movement, they attacked. Because of their varying speeds in climbing, they were easily singled out and thus defeated one by one.
In this way, using Gu Fan’s method, all the insane were eventually subdued, but it was incredibly exhausting for everyone.
Lu Yi collapsed, tired: "My goodness, finally it’s done. Don’t bother me, I need to rest."
"Who doesn’t need rest? Make some room for me." Ouyang Jin limped over, clutching his buttocks, and his condition made Lu Yi burst into hearty laughter: "Ha, bro, getting bitten in the butt must suck, right?"
Hearing this, Ouyang Jin couldn’t help but get annoyed. Several crazed people had suddenly charged into his area; they couldn’t react in time, and Ouyang Jin ended up being tackled and bitten in a rather embarrassing spot.
Gu Fan tried to console: "My friend, it’s okay. It wasn’t just you; someone nearly got bitten in an even more embarrassing place. You’re actually quite lucky..."
Hearing this, everyone really got nervous, realizing how intense the situation was.
Lu Yi looked around and saw several others clutching their butts like Ouyang Jin, their expressions painfully grim.
Normally, Lin Xi’s supernatural powers would make healing these injuries a trivial matter, but the difficulty lay in the awkwardness of the injured areas; she could only leave it to everyone to tough it out.
Lu Yi, grinning, came over to ask, "How is it, still hurting? Want to take off your pants, and I’ll apply some ointment?"
Ouyang Jin disdainfully rolled his eyes; he didn’t trust Lu Yi’s mischievous smirk meant to help instead of cause trouble.
At that moment, other injured had already applied ointment with the help of their comrades, only Ouyang Jin remained cautious. But he couldn’t withstand Lu Yi’s persistent urging—and Lu Yi put on an expression as if everything he did was for Ouyang’s own benefit.
"Come on, buddy, don’t hesitate, don’t be wary, don’t worry—I’ll take good care of everything for you." Lu Yi solemnly promised and then slapped Ouyang Jin’s butt hard, causing him to howl in pain and jump three feet into the air.
