Chapter 1256: Chapter 1256: You Are Very Suspicious
The assault failed, and a group had already breached the simple sluice gate’s defenses. This news enraged Xue Wang, who cursed loudly, "Incompetents, all incompetents! Must I personally take action?"
Lord Xiong remained composed, "Now, apart from sending people to pursue them immediately, we also need to clarify exactly who those people are."
This reminder made Xue Wang quickly inquire, "Do you know which group rushed through the simple sluice gate?"
His subordinates began to report, "There are mercenaries, as well as some from the regular forces, but among them are a few particularly formidable ones."
"Indeed, without a few formidable ones, relying solely on those lowly mercenaries wouldn’t stand a chance against a hundred vampire warriors." Lord Xiong asked further, "Is there any description of what they look like, any distinguishing features?"
"Based on the information provided by the returning vampire warriors, one of the males has strength and speed that are not weak, and his skin is very tough; even the vampire’s fangs couldn’t penetrate it. One of the females has agile skills and is very accurate with a gun, and another female seems to understand magic? Also, both females are very beautiful."
After hearing this, Xue Wang and Lord Xiong looked at each other, both with uncertainty in their eyes, feeling that the description of one male and two females closely matched Gu Fan, Su Hui, and Lin Xi.
Xue Wang felt it couldn’t be them since Helen had personally seen Gu Fan and his group passing through the space-time door; they couldn’t possibly appear in the Dark Primitive Mountain.
"Perhaps there was a mix-up on Helen’s side?" Lord Xiong began to worry.
So, Xue Wang immediately called Helen’s cell phone to inquire about the situation there in detail.
Helen answered the call, understanding Xue Wang’s meaning, then looked at the space-time door and replied, "I’ve been watching here the whole time; Gu Fan and the others have not come back. It might be someone else who has invaded the Dark Primitive Mountain."
"Is that so?" Xue Wang trusted Helen; after all, there were other members of Organization X around Helen. Even if she wanted to cover for Gu Fan, the others wouldn’t turn a blind eye.
After the call ended, Helen also felt strange. The description of one male and two females infiltrating the Dark Primitive Mountain indeed fit the characteristics of Gu Fan, Su Hui, and Lin Xi. If it matched just one of them it might be a coincidence, but all three fitting the description was suspicious.
Suddenly, Helen noticed David dozing off, sleeping very peacefully, as if he wasn’t worried about the space-time door at all. Then, Helen remembered the resolute manner David had adopted earlier, insisting that he would never let the space-time door fall into the wrong hands.
Out of curiosity, Helen walked over to the space-time door to take a look. She reached out and touched the surface, which appeared just like the space-time door she had seen before, though this one had some damage.
Indeed, after that encounter when Qian Feng and Qian Ye attacked, the space-time door was almost destroyed, showing many signs of damage and several distortions.
"Something’s not right!" Helen discovered a clue. Previously, the space-time door needed the energy key to be inserted and turned to a certain angle to be activated, but the angle needed to turn the energy key for this door was slightly less than before.
Helen felt there was a problem with this space-time door. Just as she was about to inspect it further, David woke up and immediately warned her, "Don’t touch it randomly. If something goes wrong and Gu Fan and his group can’t come back, you’ll be responsible."
"Oh, really?" Helen saw a hint of nervousness in David’s eyes. If he was worried about the space-time door being damaged, he didn’t need to be; it wasn’t so fragile that Helen could accidentally break it.
Sensing something amiss, Helen pointed to the space-time door, "According to the norm, don’t you open the space-time door at the agreed time to let Gu Fan and his group return?"
"Isn’t it not time yet?" David found a reasonable excuse, but Helen walked over, slapped her hands on the table, and stared sternly at David, "If I find out you are lying to me, I’ll kill you on the spot."
"I... I wouldn’t lie to you." David’s acting was poor, his expression obviously panicked.
Helen became even more certain, so she emphatically said, "I’m now going to the ancient times to help Gu Fan. Open the space-time door for me."
"Why are you going? You don’t even have ancient clothes; wouldn’t you disturb the timeline?" David refused and his gaze avoided meeting Helen’s directly, his emotional state further confirming Helen’s suspicions.
"I told you to open it, so open it! Enough with the nonsense," Helen pushed the gun against David’s head, "Hurry up and open the space-time door, or I’ll blow your brains out."
David became afraid, "Wait a minute, if there’s any mishap, Gu Fan and the others won’t be able to return."
"That indeed is a very good excuse; it’s really inconvenient for me to do anything to you." Helen snorted coldly, turned around, and walked directly to the space-time door to touch where the energy key was inserted, only to find that she could easily break it off.
"What is this?" Helen held up the broken part, openly questioning.
At this moment, David had awkwardly lowered his head, effectively telling Helen that this space-time door was fake.
Helen was somewhat angered, directly ordered the disassembly of this space-time door, only to find it was filled with a mess of circuit boards that emitted a little light and made some noise when activated.
"Are you trying to fool me with this?" Helen again aimed the gun at David, who hurriedly explained, "I was rushed and had to hastily assemble this; I didn’t intentionally use these broken things to fool you."
Hearing this, Helen feigned a surprised expression, "So, you’re saying, given more time, you could create something even more realistic to fool me?"
"Theoretically, yes." As soon as David finished speaking, a gunshot rang out, with a bullet whistling past his head, causing his face to turn utterly pale with fear, "Don’t shoot, let’s talk, your relative told me to do this, and said that if it was discovered, you should go to him to settle the account. Matters of the Gu family should be resolved within the Gu family."
"He dares to fool me like this? Does he even consider me his relative?" Helen was so enraged she nearly cursed out loud.
Soon, Helen calmed down and then asked David, "Tell me, where did Gu Fan and the others go?"
"Didn’t you just receive a call? With your sharp wits, you should have guessed." David didn’t explicitly say it, but his meaning was clear enough.
Helen frowned, "You heard my phone call, didn’t you? Weren’t you supposed to be napping?"
"I heard it in a daze, my biggest trait is that I have exceptionally good hearing." David said this shamelessly, then gave Helen an awkward smile.
