Chapter 1223: Chapter 123: Friend’s Cell Phone
The wails of anguish continued to echo from all around, and it seemed others were being attacked to varying degrees. If things went on like this, they really would be completely routed.
"Let’s fight!" Gu Fan stopped running and faced the fierce blood-sucking serpents head-on.
Lin Xi firmly stood beside Gu Fan. Under her control of supernatural power, many branches broke off and flew to her side at her summoning, their ends sharpened into wooden spikes by the supernatural power.
The three blood-sucking serpents initially wanted to continue their charge, but upon witnessing Lin Xi’s formidable presence, they sensed danger and immediately turned tail and fled.
"You think you can come and go as you please? How convenient for you." Gu Fan chased after them and grabbed a tail, forcefully dragging the blood-sucking serpent behind him.
But Gu Fan’s strength, though great, was no match for the blood-sucking serpent; a flick of its tail sent Gu Fan flying, tumbling through the air.
However, Gu Fan’s effort had bought Lin Xi enough time; she manipulated the wooden spikes to fly and pierce into the body of the blood-sucking serpent.
The serpent struggled violently, rolling in extreme pain, as the wooden spikes wreaked havoc inside its body, tearing through barriers and moving inexorably towards its heart.
One blood-sucking serpent was taken down in this manner. Lin Xi set her sights on the second one and dispatched it with the same technique effortlessly.
The remaining serpents, now frightened, all slithered up the thick ancient trees, never to bother them again.
With the crisis averted, Lu Yi immediately collapsed to sit down, letting out a long breath of relief, "I mean, Miss Lin, with skills like that, why didn’t you use them earlier? You scared us half to death, look at me, I’m all sweaty."
"I had no choice; until it’s absolutely necessary, I still prefer to hold back." Lin Xi wiped the sweat from her forehead and then added, "Fortunately, everyone’s okay."
Ouyang Jin gave a dry laugh: "We’re okay, but the others..."
"Hey, the crisis is over, those who are still alive, hurry up and regroup!" Lu Yi shouted loudly three times, but there was no response.
The group felt pessimistic. How did it feel like their team had completely disbanded? What were they supposed to do going forward?
"Okay, let’s head back to the camp for now. Hopefully, the others will see that there’s no danger and come back one by one." Gu Fan suggested, which everyone agreed to with nods.
However, after all that chaotic running, they were somewhat disoriented and couldn’t figure out where the campsite was supposed to be?
Having no other choice, Gu Fan and the rest followed their instincts and picked a direction. After walking for a while, they realized that everything around them began to look unfamiliar, as if this wasn’t the way back.
Lu Yi grew anxious: "What do we do? We’re not lost are we? Getting lost in this place would be really bad."
"Big brother, I’m calling you big brother now, can you please stop talking?" Ouyang Jin looked desperate, and understanding the hint, Lu Yi stopped there.
As they walked on, the group suddenly noticed something ahead that piqued their curiosity, so they cautiously moved closer to inspect it.
Because the scene had just been too chaotic, everyone had rushed away, and no one had brought anything for illumination, they had to get very close to see clearly, yet with each step, everyone’s heartbeat quickened.
Closer now, even closer, everyone held their breath and tensed, ready for whatever might happen, but upon getting closer, what they saw were just several skeletons, either sitting or lying down, dispersed around.
"It looks like they were also attacked by the blood-sucking creatures here." Lu Yi pressed his palms together in an apologetic gesture, "Sorry, we were a few steps too late to save you. I hope you can be reborn as humans, and in your next life don’t come to such a chaotic place again."
Ouyang Jin added, "Yes, and even if you want to come here in your next life, remember not to team up with the doomsayer."
"Big brother, stop always picking on me. I’ve been really trying to hold my tongue; can’t you see that?" After saying this, Lu Yi put on an innocent expression, while Su Hui also felt that Lu Yi was indeed talking less than before on this trip.
This only irritated Ouyang Jin more: "Don’t be deceived by his pretense, this guy even talks doom in his sleep."
"What!" Everyone looked at Lu Yi seriously, instantly putting a lot of pressure on him.
"This, I didn’t want this. I can’t control what I say in my sleep, you all must understand if you’ve ever talked in your sleep." Lu Yi chuckled nervously as he stepped back, feeling he had already incited public outrage and could be beaten up by his companions at any moment.
Suddenly, as Lu Yi was backing away, he tripped over something and fell directly on a skeleton, yelling out in fright and scrambling to get up with his hands and feet.
"Sorry, big brother, I didn’t mean to disturb your eternal rest." In his fluster, Lu Yi had dragged out a piece of the skeleton’s arm, which fell to the ground.
Gu Fan was going to come over and help Lu Yi up, but he stopped mid-reach, frozen in place.
"You’re really supportive!" Lu Yi grabbed Gu Fan’s arm, but he couldn’t feel Gu Fan pulling him up, which made him curious, "Bro, what’s wrong with you, why are you spacing out?"
Everyone knew Gu Fan wouldn’t space out without reason, so they all followed his gaze, and what they saw was the piece of the skeleton arm that Lu Yi had inadvertently broken holding a cellphone.
That cellphone looked very familiar; it seemed to be the model Jie used, but why was it in this skeleton’s hand, unless...
"Impossible, it can’t be, it can’t be Jie." Lu Yi could not believe it, he was too shocked and unsettled.
Gu Fan clenched his teeth, took a deep breath to steady himself, knowing that Jie’s phone had a scratch on the back cover. He flipped the phone over to look, and sure enough, it was there.
It really was Jie’s phone, but it looked like several days had passed since it was last used; the phone was out of power, and it was uncertain if there was any useful information stored inside.
Lu Yi said loudly, "Even if the phone is really Jie’s, that doesn’t mean this skeleton is Jie. Maybe after Jie dropped his phone, someone else picked it up, right?"
Although this possibility couldn’t be ruled out, optimism flickered briefly through everyone’s eyes.
The Dark Primitive Mountain was vast; if Jie had met with an accident here and they happened to stumble upon his phone in such a dark environment, it all seemed a bit too coincidental.
Gu Fan carefully weighed the phone in his hand, then said, "Regardless, let’s charge the phone first and see if there’s any important information inside. Then we can discuss what to do next and whether we need to keep moving forward."
