Chapter 1206: Chapter 1206: The Way to Enter the City

"Oh my god, why did I have to meet you guys? Oh, heavens, what did I do to deserve this?" Ouyang Jin looked up at a 45-degree angle toward the sky with an expression of utter despair, shedding silent tears in his heart.

Lu Yi stepped forward wanting to say a few words, but before he could start, Ouyang Jin pounced on him and they ended up scuffling.

"Dude, what are you doing? This is the bad karma between Gu Fan and you, why are you picking on me? Please, keep your cool," Lu Yi was completely bewildered. Then, he heard Ouyang Jin muttering as they fought, "It’s all because of your doomsayer’s curse, all because of your doomsayer’s curse."

Gu Fan, Su Hui, and Lin Xi stood by watching the commotion, not intending to intervene and understanding Ouyang Jin’s actions. They had indeed suffered a great deal from Lu Yi’s doomsayer predictions, so Ouyang Jin had become wise: beat him up first, then talk.

After the two of them had enough, everyone stepped in to break up the fight and separate them.

All right, after the commotion subsided, it was time to talk about serious matters. Gu Fan, in particular, wanted to learn more about Dark City and why Ouyang Jin had turned up here.

Ouyang Jin explained that after quitting his job at Triangle Sea Area, he had been contacted by an old friend whom he had not seen for a long time. This guy had gotten himself into some trouble and had fled to Dark City, where he had stayed for five years.

In Dark City, due to being beyond the control of any surrounding nation, there was no currency; people traded goods for gold. Therefore, anyone who could acquire some gold and bring it to Dark City could become extremely wealthy there.

Of course, the biggest holder of gold in Dark City was Organization X. However, they were not exactly giving away gold out of generosity. They required others to risk their lives for them in exchange for a little gold.

What Dark City lacked the most was supplies, their situation was not much different from a slum. Food, drink, clothing, and everything else had to be brought in from the outside.

Gu Fan furrowed his brow: "If the majority of living supplies needs to be provided from the outside world, then gold is needed to buy those supplies. But the problem is, Dark City is seriously short on gold."

"Exactly, so Dark City needs some kind of product to trade for gold and then use the gold to buy living supplies," Ouyang Jin explained with a grave face. "As far as I know, there is a plant in the Dark Night Primitive Forest that, after being processed and extracted, can be turned into something highly addictive. Organization X uses the gold to hire people from Dark City to search for this plant in the primitive forest. Then Organization X turns the plant into a product, trades it for more gold, and later purchases living supplies with the gold, sells them back in Dark City at high prices, taking the little gold these people have."

Hearing this, Lu Yi marveled in amazement: "So, you mean to say, the gold that the people of Dark City worked so hard for Organization X to earn is then taken away by them."

Ouyang Jin nodded: "Yes, currently, Organization X controls two things in Dark City: one is gold, and the other is the channels for material supplies. My friend wants to use my strength to circumvent Organization X and establish a direct supply of materials."

Hearing this, Gu Fan, Lin Xi, Su Hui, and Lu Yi all pricked up their ears to listen attentively, feeling that Ouyang Jin was about to get to the crucial point.

But right at this moment, Irina arrived. Seeing a new face, she immediately frowned: "Who is he? Gu Fan, how can you bring someone into the backyard without permission?"

"Relax, this guy can be trusted. He’s also the most reliable guide we could ask for, exactly what we need to take Dark City," Gu Fan complimented Ouyang Jin highly, saving his face, which also made Irina wonder whether this ordinary-looking guy was as extraordinary as Gu Fan claimed.

Seeing the respect Gu Fan was giving him, Ouyang Jin stepped up, eager to prove his worth. He continued explaining: "My friend is now in Dark City, and every once in a while, he risks his life going into the depths of the Dark Night Primitive Forest to collect that very special plant, earning a bit of gold from Organization X, which he then uses to buy the pitiful living supplies from them. He’s really had enough, so he found ways to contact me, asking me to figure out how to send some stuff in."

At this point, Irina looked puzzled: "Hold on, as far as I know, those who enter Dark City have their mobile phones confiscated. How did your friend contact you?"

Ouyang Jin nodded: "Yes, in theory, that’s the case. But in reality, my friend found a mobile phone once when he was out in the Dark Primitive Mountain collecting plants. Incredibly, the phone’s contact list had my number. How about that for a coincidence?"

"That’s just too coincidental, isn’t it?" They all seemed skeptical.

"Enough, get to the point. How did you get the stuff into their hands?" That was what everyone really cared about.

Ouyang Jin went on: "Ever wondered why goods in Dark City are so expensive? Firstly, Organization X controls the supply channels, and secondly, the trucks going in and out occasionally get attacked by unidentified creatures on the Road of Death, preventing the goods from reaching Dark City. Sometimes Organization X sends more people, but still, the trucks with their cargoes get attacked."

Irina still didn’t understand: "What does that have to do with you being able to get goods in?"

Ouyang Jin explained it this way: "When the trucks are attacked and damaged, Organization X needs to buy new trucks, right? And I’m the one selling the trucks."

Gu Fan got it instantly: "I see now, you must have manipulated the trucks, hiding some stuff inside without Organization X knowing, making them think they’re buying an empty truck."

"Exactly," Ouyang Jin said, "After Organization X unloads the cargo, they park the trucks by the roadside, thinking no one would dare to steal them. Meanwhile, my friend takes some people to sneak over to the trucks, opens the secret compartments, and retrieves the supplies they need."

Irina gasped in surprise: "So if you can smuggle supplies into Dark City without anyone noticing, you could also sneak people in, right? What a move—I had never thought of that!"

Su Hui asked: "But how does your friend get the gold to you? You can’t just be making money from selling trucks."

Ouyang Jin smiled proudly: "Organization X often has a team running a fixed route, and since they buy the trucks from me, their route naturally passes by my place. I also find opportunities to inspect those vehicles, such as operating a factory that sells and repairs trucks. So when something goes wrong with Organization X’s trucks, they come to me for repairs, and that’s when I use the repairs as a cover to quietly open the secret compartments and remove the gold."
