Chapter 1168: Chapter 1168: The Bizarre Surroundings
"Close your eyes, listen with your heart," the Vampire Hunter focused intensely, using his ears to listen to the city, an expression of dedication that impressed Lin Yue.
Lin Yue did the same, closing his eyes and listening, but he heard nothing except the wind whistling past his ears.
However, the Vampire Hunter heard all kinds of sounds: friends chatting merrily at a gathering, car engines, a baby’s cry, and even the noise made by a rat—none escaped his ears.
Lin Yue waited for a long time but the Vampire Hunter did not open his eyes. Unsure if it was working, and the wind was beginning to bother him.
Suddenly, the Vampire Hunter opened his eyes, a fierce look in them—he had heard a person’s fearful scream and the growl of a beast. From experience, he judged it was undoubtedly a vampire.
The Vampire Hunter did not rush to pursue but instead flew to monitor the vampire’s every move because acting in the city carried the risk of exposure. He decided to wait, wait for the vampire to return to its lair or venture into a secluded area.
However, the vampire entered a restaurant and it boldly walked through the front door, prompting the Vampire Hunter to decide this was a vampire hideout. He then reminded Lin Yue to put on his mask, ready to storm inside.
Lin Yue expressed his concern, "Master, if we act in the city, people will see us, and it’s night time. Aren’t vampires afraid of the sun? We could wait till daylight."
The Vampire Hunter responded like this, "There are more people during the day, and the likelihood of being seen is greater. And it’s a real fight; of course, I need to train you. How would we achieve the meaning of actual combat by choosing to fight during the day?"
Upon hearing this, Lin Yue could only nod, "Thank you, Master. Thank you for considering everything so carefully for me."
"Alright, it is two in the morning now, the streets are nearly empty, and hardly anyone can be seen. Let’s go." The Vampire Hunter dived from high above. His speed and vigor were frightening, almost as if he was venting all of today’s frustrations.
Lin Yue was taken along in the dive, feeling the speed of the descent increase sharply. His heart pounded wildly, and he could only hope the Vampire Hunter considered that this apprentice was just starting out and needed a bit of protection.
Just before crashing into the rooftop of the restaurant, the Vampire Hunter struck with his palm, blowing open the rooftop and then burst in.
"Wow, I like this move. Teach me someday, Master," Lin Yue got excited. Seeing the moves displayed by the Vampire Hunter today, he felt he had chosen the right master.
However, once the Vampire Hunter and Lin Yue stepped into the building, they found it was an office, empty, with no one around.
"Strange, where did the vampire go?" Lin Yue, curious, walked around. The Vampire Hunter did not stop him because, in real combat, he hoped Lin Yue would get full training, including being wary of his surroundings.
As Lin Yue approached a wall, touching it, wondering if there was some secret passage, suddenly a hand burst through the wall from the other side, grabbing Lin Yue by the neck. The strength was so great that Lin Yue felt almost suffocated.
"This is bad!" Knowing this test might have been too much, the Vampire Hunter hurried over, then saw Lin Yue being pulled through the broken wall to the other side.
Just as the Vampire Hunter was about to rescue Lin Yue, the floor beneath him cracked open. Several hands reached out and grabbed the Vampire Hunter by his ankles with such force that even he was surprised.
The moment the Hunter drew his sword, he was dragged down by these hands, and a seeping sensation followed, pulling him down directly to the next floor.
"Who dares to barge in?" Three vampires pounced on the Hunter, just as they opened their sharp-toothed mouths, several bursts of sword Qi were unleashed, piercing through their bodies, and the immense force of the sword Qi sent them flying.
"That was close, almost capsized in a ditch." The Hunter immediately got up, his brow furrowed. Now, he had been pulled into another room, increasing the distance between him and Lin Yue, making it impossible for him to assist Lin Yue timely.
The three vampires who had just been sent flying quickly recovered from their injuries and grew wary of the man with the sword.
The three vampires eyed the Hunter’s every move, their bodies tensed. One of them guessed the identity of the Hunter, "In today’s world, with such strong sword Qi, you must be that Hunter, possibly a disciple of Jian Shen."
The Hunter did not respond, but closed his eyes, trying to listen to the sounds around him. He hadn’t heard any noise from Lin Yue’s side yet when those three annoying vampires showed up.
The Hunter knew that if he didn’t settle this quickly, he feared he wouldn’t make it to where Lin Yue was. Thus, he stomped his foot, moved at a lightning-fast speed, his swordmanship as quick as lightning, he swept past a vampire, chopping off its head, and at the same time, pulled out a wooden spike, hitting the heart.
Simple and direct, the Hunter easily eliminated one vampire and then ignored the other two, leaping back to the previous floor. He believed that his move was forceful enough to intimidate the remaining two vampires.
However, the Hunter was mistaken, his strength didn’t intimidate the two vampires; instead, they relentlessly pursued him, following him to the same floor.
At that moment, the Hunter looked at the broken spot on the wall where Lin Yue had been dragged in, and hearing no sounds of a fight made him very worried.
The Hunter didn’t even turn his head as he chopped off the heads of the two vampires, then threw two toothpicks like darts that accurately hit the hearts of the vampires.
With the nuisances out of the way, the Hunter was ready to help Lin Yue, but when he steadied his gaze, the broken spot on the wall had disappeared, and the wall was intact.
"How can this be?" The Hunter was stunned, finding it too bizarre.
Then, an even stranger thing happened. The three vampires he had just killed were standing behind him again, looking unharmed with their heads intact on their bodies and no damage to their hearts.
"This, how is this possible?" The Hunter was puzzled. He had hunted vampires for many years and had never encountered such a scene, making him feel a bad premonition.
One of the vampires spoke, "Impressive. To be able to kill us three so easily, truly the reputation of the number one Vampire Hunter is well-deserved, but I’m sorry, you’re up against me, and you have no chance of winning."
The Hunter did not reply, but simply swung his sword, chopping off the heads of the three vampires once again, then thrusting the toothpicks into their hearts, thinking if once didn’t work, then perhaps the second time there would be no problem.
However, to the Hunter’s horror, when he turned around, the three vampires were standing perfectly fine in front of him, sneering coldly at him.
