Chapter 1152: Chapter 1152: A Small Wooden Cabin

After traveling for a while, Irina took out a map, wanting to determine their approximate location before deciding on a direction for their actions.

Meanwhile, their companion was calling the people who remained on the highway, but there was no response at all; everyone understood what that implied.

The people waiting on the highway and those meant to meet them by sea were gone, leaving only one of the three operational squads of the Hunter’s Guild, despite their elite forces being fully deployed — a conclusion far too grim for anyone to accept lightly.

Lin Xi had doubled back and taken Gu Chuanshan away, completely disregarding the feelings of Irina and the others.

Some wanted to vent their frustration on Gu Fan, who had always been reluctant to cooperate fully, but as soon as Gu Fan noticed their hostility, he gave off a martial arts master’s aura to intimidate them.

Irina hastily tried to make peace, "Okay, everyone, remember one thing: if we want to get out of here alive, we must work together."

Someone objected, "How can we work together when they have someone who can fly and carry their people to safety one by one? We, on the other hand, end up being chased down and blocked by Organization X, only to be completely annihilated here."

Hearing this, Gu Fan felt their resentment and tried to reassure them, "Okay, since you’ve helped us, I can offer you a promise. Lin Xi will only take my parents because they are old and can’t help much anyway. I will stay and fight with you to break out of the encirclement. How about it? I could leave, but instead, I choose to stay and face adversity with you, so let’s consider it even."

Irina’s eyes narrowed with scorn, "At a time like this, you’re still driving such a hard bargain."

Gu Fan’s expression remained aloof, "After Lin Xi gets my parents to safety, she’ll prioritize taking your people out next. I’ll stay till the end; I’m already being more generous than I need to be, and I certainly don’t owe you anything."

"Fine, fine, we’re even," Irina knew there was no room to negotiate and secretly despised Gu Fan some more.

Gu Fan pointed in a direction, "Okay, let’s keep moving."

Members of the Hunter’s Guild were displeased, "Hold on, why should we go that way? Why should we listen to you?"

Gu Fan explained, "Because the chances of being caught by the enemy are very high if we stay put. We must keep moving, and since we won’t be here when Lin Xi returns, we’ve already agreed on a route of action so she can find us, even if we’re not in the original spot. Besides, if you want to split up from us, we’ll just have to agree."

"This guy?" The Hunter’s Guild was annoyed but helpless, as Gu Fan was controlling the initiative.

Su Hui pulled Gu Fan aside and whispered cautiously, "Isn’t it a bit unwise to anger them like this? After all, we need to stay united now."

Gu Fan’s expression grew serious, "I can’t see through these people. I still feel that they cannot be fully trusted, and now is a good opportunity to test them."

Su Hui quickly understood, "If they have ulterior motives, and you keep provoking them, they might just lose their composure and show their true selves."

Gu Fan nodded, "Exactly, Sister Su, you should have seen how they pointed guns at me when I first met them for not cooperating. The ferocity in their eyes was concerning."

Just then, Irina received a call. After a few minutes, she perked up and shared some good news with everyone: the Hunter’s Guild had decided to send reinforcements, and the person coming had volunteered, meaning there was hope.

"That’s great, even he is coming. We can not only leave but also fight back," members of the Hunter’s Guild said with renewed confidence, making Gu Fan and Su Hui puzzled about what kind of powerful figure was coming that filled them with such a victorious spirit.

Suddenly, Gu Fan recalled something and asked Irina, "I remember you saying that besides the descendants of Jian Shen, your Hunter’s Guild also has some capable individuals. Is one of them coming to support you?"

Irina nodded, "Of course, how could we dare compete with Organization X without some real strength? This person is very powerful, possibly even stronger than a descendant of Jian Shen."

"Wow, that’s impressive," Gu Fan felt the confidence in her words and believed it might well be true.

Someone interjected, "How about that, kid? Once he arrives, we can leave safely. If you want to come with us, you’d better cooperate a bit."

"Thanks a lot. Since you’re all set, I’m relieved. You go your way; we’ll go ours. Let’s part here and keep in touch." After that, Gu Fan waved to them, appearing truly ready to go their separate ways.

"Alright, what’s the point of quarreling now? There’s no sense of unity," Irina came over, scolding her own people and Gu Fan alike.

"You’re right, big sister. Let’s save our energy and get moving," Gu Fan said, and then he and Su Hui walked off, choosing their own route.

The Hunter’s Guild had no choice but to keep following Gu Fan, feeling frustrated. This was completely different from what they had expected before coming; wasn’t it supposed to be Gu Fan cooperating in exchange for their help, and acting according to their plans? Yet the reality was the exact opposite.

"Alright, let’s take a break and look at the map," Gu Fan said, struggling with his phone navigation due to poor signal, so he had to borrow Irina’s paper map to roughly estimate their position again.

Irina pointed to a location, "We are estimated to be here now. According to your route, we need to cross this mountain, try to last until dawn, and then reach this road. By then, we will essentially be leaving the enemy’s territory."

Gu Fan checked the time and saw the sky was still very dark, understanding that both sides were racing against the clock.

Even after daybreak, though Xue Wang and the vampires couldn’t act, facing just Lord Xiong alone might lead to an annihilation of their forces.

Just then, someone came running to report that a cabin had been spotted ahead, and it appeared unoccupied.

Gu Fan was surprised internally, wondering how there could be a cabin here, but driven by curiosity, he followed the others to see it.

After walking some distance, there indeed was a cabin, simple though well-maintained, likely used regularly by someone.

Su Hui was puzzled, "Who would build a cabin here, and what for? It seems rather odd."
