Chapter 1142: Chapter 1142: She and He Have a Story
Hearing the words "Vajra Body Protection," Irina was taken aback, "Are you practicing a kind of ancient Martial Arts?"
Gu Fan nodded, then counter-asked, "Yeah, by the look of you, you know about ancient Martial Arts."
"I have a friend who practiced ancient Martial Arts; he’s really powerful, the strongest hunter in our Hunter’s Guild."
"The strongest hunter?" Gu Fan frowned and said, "Let me guess, your friend, does he wield a very powerful treasured sword?"
"Yes, he is a Sword God successor..." Halfway through her sentence, Irina realized something and then looked at Gu Fan with a surprised gaze, "Do you know him?"
Gu Fan responded, "Not exactly, I’ve just met him, and he has helped me. I owe him a big favor, though it was his mission, I still want to thank him."
Upon hearing this, Irina was puzzled, "His mission, he has mentioned it to me, the successors of the Sword God have a mission generation after generation, which is to find a woman and protect her, isn’t it? But you’re a man?"
Seeing Irina’s puzzled gaze, Gu Fan knew she had misunderstood, "That’s correct, he found that woman, and she and I are rather close, so by helping her, he effectively helped me?"
Irina became a bit anxious, "What, he found the woman he has to protect, so are he and that woman together now?"
Gu Fan almost stumbled over his words, "Please, what are you even saying? Protection and caring for someone are two different things. Can’t you stop jumping to conclusions?"
"Sorry, I was thinking astray." Irina felt a bit embarrassed, but seeing her sigh with relief, Gu Fan got a bit curious, "You don’t have feelings for him, do you?"
"Don’t talk nonsense, or I’ll rip your mouth." Irina’s expression suddenly turned serious, but it was clear to anyone that she was just trying to cover up her true feelings.
"Alright, I’ll drop it..." Gu Fan’s words were cut off halfway as he swallowed the rest back, while the others, witnessing this scene, were incredibly shocked and stopped in their tracks.
It was the third hunting group, previously reported missing; they were all lying there in disarray, some torn open, some with their necks bitten off, their expressions frozen in extreme fear.
At first glance, it was obvious the third group had encountered vampires, but besides them, there was no one else around.
Irina’s eyebrows furrowed, "Impossible, everyone here is an elite, all with experience hunting vampires, it’s impossible they were wiped out unilaterally."
"Unless they encountered many vampires, or the vampires were extraordinarily powerful." Gu Fan glanced back at the undercover vampire, remembering that Xue Lang and a masked female vampire were unaccounted for.
If the third group of the Hunter’s Guild had encountered Xue Lang and that female vampire, it meant one thing.
"Do you see? Without Xue Wang and Lord Xiong even here, they managed to annihilate one of your elite teams." Although Gu Fan’s words were true, they didn’t sit well with Irina and the others.
One of them retorted, "What are you implying, kid? Are you underestimating our capabilities or our resolve to face death?"
"That’s not what I meant. I just want to remind you of something. You might have faced many dangers before, each time barely escaping with your lives, but this time is different. Your opponents are much stronger than anyone you’ve faced. I don’t want you to put yourselves in danger just for me. It’s not shameful to retreat now."
Irina’s firm reply came despite Gu Fan’s seemingly considerate words, "Boy, don’t try to provoke us with reverse psychology. We knew the difficulty of this mission when we set out. If possible, we would like to meet the two most powerful people in Organization X because our ultimate goal is to take them down."
"Okay, have it your way." Gu Fan walked along, surveying the surroundings, then asked, "Do you have a map with you?"
Irina immediately ordered someone to show Gu Fan the map, curious about what the young man was planning.
Gu Fan spread out the map, then scratched his head, "I’m not very good at orientation. Can you tell me, where were we when you found me, and where are we now?"
Irina marked two positions on the map, and Gu Fan asked another question, "How far apart are these two places?"
"At least two kilometers!" Irina’s reply made Gu Fan break out in a cold sweat, this distance suggested that Xue Lang and the female vampire didn’t follow him; they weren’t hiding in one spot shirking duty but had gone in another direction.
Why Xue Lang and the female vampire would do this was almost certain; they were actually after Su Hui and Gu Fan’s parents because they figured that Gu Fan’s noise was meant to attract them. They fell for it and knew that if they captured Gu Fan’s parents, Gu Fan would have to surrender willingly.
"Damn it!" Gu Fan was now very anxious and quickly told Irina to mark the routes of the three teams on the map.
Initially, Irina refused because doing so would reveal to Gu Fan the movements of the hunter teams, which meant he wouldn’t need to follow them anymore and could act on his own.
But Gu Fan insisted that since they were sincerely cooperating, he would never betray them; he pledged to work together with Irina and her team to fight their way out.
Seeing Gu Fan’s earnest expression, Irina decided to trust him this time and marked the routes and rendezvous points of the three groups.
"You still don’t trust me, do you?" Gu Fan’s face darkened, then he pointed at the map, "If I were you, the starting points of the three teams would be fixed. You would definitely return to the starting point if you retreated, but if you kept moving forward, although the routes would be different, the ultimate destinations must be the same so you could rendezvous."
After hearing this, Irina looked at Gu Fan with disbelief. He was even more exceptional than she had thought.
After thinking it over, Irina finally completely marked the movement routes of the three teams and their meetup location, which turned out to be near the coastline.
Gu Fan understood, "You must have someone coming by boat to meet you at the coast."
"That’s right, we had everything planned before we came. As long as they can make it to the coast, there’s a chance of escape." Irina glanced at the time, then added, "It’s midnight now, three hours to the arranged time. We must move fast."
Yet Gu Fan still stared at the map, his eyes serious, intently contemplating the next move.
"This is the enemy’s territory. Is it viable to escape by sea?"
