Chapter 1064: Chapter 1064: Get the Party Started

Gu Fan returned home and immediately fell asleep; he had been working during the day and helping Lin Yue at night, nearly collapsing from exhaustion. Thankfully, tomorrow was the weekend; otherwise, he couldn’t have coped.

When Gu Fan woke up, it was already the afternoon. He stretched, yawned, and hurried out of bed—he couldn’t sleep any longer, or he’d have trouble falling asleep at night.

However, just as Gu Fan got out of bed, he heard the doorbell ring. Curious, he went to open the door, and into the house rushed Guo Ye.

"Gu Fan, my old classmate, the reunion is tomorrow. I sent so many messages, made so many calls—you could at least reply," Guo Ye said.

"This..." Gu Fan looked at his phone and saw it was on silent mode. He had been so tired he was worried about being disturbed.

Gu Fan had no choice but to admit he was wrong: "Sorry, I just woke up and didn’t notice any calls or messages. Is there something you need?"

Guo Ye grew more anxious: "Don’t you know why I’m here? The reunion is tomorrow, tomorrow! The thing you promised me, it’s related to my lifelong happiness."

"Your thing?" Gu Fan frowned, as if he couldn’t recall, which made Guo Ye even more frantic.

In the end, Gu Fan still promised Guo Ye to help him stand out at the reunion, to make Guo Ye the center of attention and catch the eye of a certain female classmate.

"Ah, helping you aim for a good woman, why do I feel a sense of guilt?" Gu Fan said with a troubled look, while Guo Ye pressed his hands together in a pitiful gesture: "Gu Fan, I’m begging you, don’t turn your back on me at the last minute."

Gu Fan chuckled: "How could I? When I say I’ll do something, I do it. I’ll talk to some old classmates right now and plan how to help you at the reunion tomorrow."

Guo Ye was very surprised to hear this: "What, you’re just starting to plan this now? The reunion is tomorrow; we have less than 24 hours left. Is that enough time?"

"Seems like the timing is tight, but I’ll do my very best." Gu Fan immediately called to gather the available old classmates at one spot. Everyone chatted and brainstormed over food and drinks, with Guo Ye footing the bill, of course.

"Dude, can you actually be relied on?" Guo Ye began to doubt but Gu Fan made a ’no problem’ gesture: "Don’t worry, we’ll do our humanly best, then leave the rest to fate."

Hearing this, Guo Ye looked at Gu Fan with disdain: "So what, if it doesn’t succeed, we blame it on fate? You’re really good at shirking responsibility."

"Well, someone’s gotta take the blame if I’m doing the task," Gu Fan said, making it sound perfectly reasonable and leaving Guo Ye with no choice but to hope Gu Fan could make something impressive happen.

Just as Gu Fan and Guo Ye were about to leave, Lin Xi called, so Gu Fan answered: "Hello, Miss Lin, are you looking for me, or did you miss me?"

Lin Xi snorted: "Pfft, in your dreams! Who misses you? I just wanted to ask if my brother is back yet."

Gu Fan replied: "Sorry, your brother isn’t back yet. I don’t know where he went. Have you contacted him?"

"I messaged him; he said he would be back soon, so it should be fine." Lin Xi’s tone was a bit strange, unusually gentle, as if she had another purpose for the call and was just using her brother as a pretext.

"That’s good." Gu Fan didn’t think much of it, hoping for some peace so he could catch a break.

After hesitating for a moment, Lin Xi added, "Gu Fan, I know taking care of my brother lately has been tiring for you, but we haven’t had a date in a long time. Let’s go shopping together tomorrow."

Hearing the word "shopping," Gu Fan trembled inside, thinking hadn’t this lady been tired lately? What sort of creature is a woman, to still have the stamina for shopping?

Whenever Gu Fan went shopping with Lin Xi, Su Hui, or Gu Ling, he felt like his legs were about to break. He couldn’t understand why girls couldn’t outrun boys during school runs, but when it came to shopping, they seemed to have infinite energy.

It was terrifying. Gu Fan had just recovered some energy and was determined not to go shopping, luckily thinking of a very reasonable excuse: "Sorry, I have a class reunion tomorrow. We old classmates haven’t met in many years, so could we reschedule our shopping date?"

"Alright, reunions are rare, go ahead. I can call Sister Su, or maybe Qin Jia," Lin Xi said, seemingly unbothered, which made Gu Fan think she was an incredibly considerate girlfriend.

"Wait a second?" Lin Xi suddenly remembered something and started to coldly probe, "Did you have a crush on any girl in your high school class?"

Gu Fan broke out in a cold sweat. He hadn’t anticipated Lin Xi’s intuition being so sharp but managed to stay calm: "If I had a high school crush, with my personality, I would have pursued her right after exams. By the time I met you in college, I wouldn’t have been single."

Lin Xi remained skeptical: "It’s also possible that you didn’t win her over after exams, so you pursued me in college."

On the spur of the moment, Gu Fan found a retort: "What do you mean? She didn’t want me, but you did. Surely your standards and taste, Miss Lin, can’t be worse than hers."

"Yeah right, I was just young and naive, conned by your sweet talk," Lin Xi said, not wanting to dwell on the matter and cause Gu Fan anxiety, so she changed the subject, "Just don’t drink too much at the reunion tomorrow, look after yourself. I don’t want you to be inebriated when I need you."

"Don’t worry, I’ll definitely stay sober, ready to heed your call at any moment." Gu Fan gave Lin Xi his word, and after chatting for a bit more, they ended the call.

Guo Ye, who’d witnessed Gu Fan’s sigh of relief, couldn’t resist asking, "Dude, you really have a girlfriend? Then tomorrow you can only help me, and can’t go wild."

Gu Fan didn’t understand: "What do you mean? What’s ’going wild’?"

"Li Shi, the class beauty, you could even say the school beauty, Li Shi. I told you before, she’s single now—it’s a perfect opportunity for you to rekindle an old flame, but...sigh." Guo Ye appeared regretful, but his pretense was too obvious, and Gu Fan wanted to kick him out.

Suddenly, Guo Ye became curious: "By the way, Gu Fan, what does your girlfriend look like? Is she as pretty as Li Shi?"

"They’re about the same," Gu Fan casually replied, exciting Guo Ye’s curiosity even more as he insisted on seeing a photo of Gu Fan’s girlfriend.
