Leng Le squinted her eyes and sized him up, clearly not believing a word from Gu Fan, she questioned him again, "I remember your house isn’t nearby, right?"

To this, Gu Fan chuckled, "My family’s old house is indeed a bit far from here, but the home in my apartment complex isn’t far from here, didn’t I tell you before?"

Upon hearing this, Leng Le snorted, "Of course not, you heartbreaker, you never told me you had two houses. It seems you were never serious when you were with me, so now I’ve got nothing to say to you. Please keep your distance from me."

"Actually, I know I shouldn’t disturb your life, but I couldn’t help it. But Gu Fan played dumb, "What happened yesterday? Don’t overthink it, we just happened to meet, a twist of fate."

"To hell with your twist of fate. If you won’t speak up, I don’t have time to waste on you." Saying this, Leng Le put on an angry face, stood up, and made as if to leave.

Gu Fan quickly grabbed Leng Le’s arm and pulled her back, "Don’t be upset, ex-girlfriend. How can you not trust me, after all, you know what kind of person I am."

"No one visits a temple without a cause, and that’s precisely why I know to be extra cautious with you," Leng Le said with a serious and solemn face, as if she wouldn’t let Gu Fan off the hook unless he came clean.

Leng Le added, "You well know what you should and shouldn’t do. We’ve broken up, and you should definitely keep your distance from me, but the fact that you sought me out today can’t mean anything good."

Hearing this, Gu Fan scratched his head, revealing an awkward expression, "That’s my ex-girlfriend for you. Although we weren’t together long, you understand me well enough. If it weren’t for some complications, I reckon you’d be the one I’d be marrying, but sometimes fate has its own plans, with no regard for human desires..."

"Enough, stop with the reminiscing and wishful thinking. I won’t be moved by those words," Leng Le said with an icy expression, as though growing impatient.

Seeing that playing the emotional card was useless, Gu Fan sighed and changed the topic, "I truly just happened to bump into you and wanted to see how you’re doing lately."

"Since breaking up with you, I can eat and sleep well, my life is very stable," Leng Le said, while placing a hand over her heart to show her sincerity.

Gu Fan smiled awkwardly, "Knowing that you’re doing well eases my mind. If you face any difficulties, you can come to me. As long as it’s within my power and doesn’t violate morals or the law, I’ll do my best to help you."

"Thank you, I’m doing great right now, and I can solve my own problems." After saying this, Leng Le stood up, and said lightly, "If that’s all you wanted to tell me, then our conversation can end here."

"Wait a minute?" Gu Fan hurried after her, stepping in front of Leng Le, "What I meant was, actually, we could help each other out. If you’re doing well, soaring high, like if you’ve come upon an opportunity recently, you could also look out for me."

"Thank you, but I don’t have anything to look out for you lately." With that, Leng Le quickly walked past Gu Fan. That moment, she felt a bit panicked, certain about one thing—that the person she had faced off with yesterday was Gu Fan.

Leng Le believed that Gu Fan had noticed her skills had become very formidable, and therefore, he grew suspicious. He was using today’s chance meeting during the run to probe Leng Le, wanting to know what had recently happened to her. In other words, Gu Fan was taking precautionary measures.

Gu Fan didn’t chase after Leng Le again, watching as she hurriedly left. His brow furrowed, a hunch telling him that Leng Le must have encountered some unspeakable problems.

Although they had broken up, and Gu Fan didn’t want to meddle in Leng Le’s affairs, he felt that Leng Le assembling a crew must be for some purpose, and her newfound prowess was too unusual. Most importantly, their unexpected encounter yesterday made the whole situation extraordinary.

"Leng Le, I don’t know what you’re plotting, but I hope I’m thinking too much. I really don’t want any more conflicts between us," Gu Fan could only hope that things wouldn’t develop in a direction he didn’t want to see.
