Chapter 1051: Chapter 1051: Seize the Opportunity to Perform Well

On this day, Gu Fan was working diligently at his post with a determination as if he was ready to sink or swim with the company. Many people admired him, secretly thinking how such a newcomer could be so aggressively enthusiastic at work as if he was on a chicken-blood-induced high.

Many people knew that the company had been losing money and was barely keeping afloat. Both bosses had thoughts of disbanding, so everyone was mentally prepared. They went to work just to go through the motions, waiting for the bosses to give the word, so they could collect some money, take their things, and leave.

Just as Gu Fan was pondering over solutions, thinking if there was any chance of turning things around, he suddenly received a call. It was from Lin Xi, so he immediately answered the phone, "What’s up, beauty? Did you call me right after work? Do you miss me that much?"

Lin Xi snorted, "Who misses you? Don’t flatter yourself."

"If you don’t miss me, who do you miss then?" Gu Fan feigned confusion while Lin Xi laughed, "Alright, stop your nonsense. My parents are going to your place tonight to bring some stuff for my brother. Hurry home and get ready."

Upon hearing this, Gu Fan immediately perked up, "Okay, leave this to me. I promise to complete the mission." After saying this, Gu Fan started packing up and hurried off from work.

This was an opportunity to impress his future in-laws. Gu Fan couldn’t miss it. On his way home, he even made a special trip to the market to buy a lot of ingredients.

Once home, Gu Fan got busy right away, tangling with pots and pans in the kitchen. The commotion attracted Lin Yue.

Lin Yue saw the pile of stuff in the kitchen and Gu Fan’s grand setup, and asked, "Is it really necessary to make such a fuss just because my parents are coming over?"

Gu Fan replied earnestly, "I am the host. When guests come to my home, of course, I need to entertain them properly. It’s a matter of courtesy and principle. That’s the kind of hospitable person I am."

Lin Yue gave him an incredulous look, "I think you’re going all out to impress because you want to marry my sister."

Gu Fan felt a bit embarrassed and could only inquire, "Kid, how old are you? Pointing out the truth so directly is not nice."

Lin Yue answered, "I’m not into all that beating around the bush. I go straight to the point. If something can be done with action, there’s no need for useless words."

"Ah, that’s not a bad trait," Gu Fan could only offer a dry laugh, then a thought struck him, "Your sister told me you used to hang out with some people. What exactly did you do?"

Lin Yue thought for a moment, "Basically, whatever the boss told us to do, we did. Like guarding the place, debt collection, group fights, stuff like that..."

"Okay, okay, I get the picture of your glorious past deeds," Gu Fan said, indicating he’d heard enough, which wasn’t very positive. He lamented internally that at such a young age, Lin Yue had taken a wrong path... What a pity...

However, Gu Fan was a bit puzzled, "So recently when you’re not at home, does that mean you’re going back to your old ways?"

"How should I put this?" Lin Yue scratched his head, pondering, "To be accurate, I never left that path. Can’t really say I went back to it."

Hearing this, Gu Fan’s heart sank, "Does that mean you’re still hanging out with those people from before?"

Lin Yue shrugged, "The people and life from before have been with me for ten years. It’s not something I can just cut off. Plus, I got used to that life. I’ve never thought about leaving it."

Gu Fan offered some well-meaning advice, "That was before when you didn’t have family around. But now, it’s different. You have parents, a sister, and in the future, you’ll meet many new friends full of positive energy. We’ll definitely help you walk a better path."

"Parents?" Lin Yue shook his head, "When I was young, during the time I most needed to build familial bonds, I lacked this affection for ten years. Even now, I find it awkward being around them."

Gu Fan thought about it; after ten years apart, it was not something that could be rekindled at will. So he changed tack, "Take it slow, huh? You and your sister are close in age, so there shouldn’t be a generation gap. You should get along better."

"My sister was good to me when we were kids, and she’s also good-looking." Lin Yue glanced at Gu Fan and then seemed puzzled, "I can tell my sister is outstanding. Being together with her, you must be pretty decent too."

"Thanks for the compliment, though I’m not all that great," Gu Fan said modestly, then got back on topic, "So, how about starting tomorrow, I help you find a job, or sign you up for a training course to learn some skills for a risk-free job?"

"Forget it, I still like chopping people," Lin Yue replied, just as Gu Fan gave him a disparaging look, "I advise you to give it up. Have you forgotten we live with a policewoman who despises evil and is also pretty skilled?"

After hearing that, Lin Yue felt a chill, "Brother Gu Fan, there’s something I don’t understand. You have my sister, so why do you keep a beauty hidden? And does my sister not mind?"

Gu Fan explained, "Sister Su and I are friends. Your sister knows, and she trusts me. Besides, Sister Su is very upright and proud. Her pride wouldn’t allow her to be the other woman."

"Is that so?" Lin Yue pondered, then added, "One of my older brothers dares not to mess around with women outside because the tigress at home is ferocious."

Gu Fan frowned slightly, "What do you mean, are you implying that your sister is a tigress?"

"I think you’re facing two tigresses," Lin Yue had just finished speaking when the doorbell rang. Gu Fan immediately perked up and hurried to the door after straightening his clothes and taking a deep breath to compose himself.

Opening the door, Lin Xi and her parents stood outside, all wearing smiles.

"Uncle, Auntie, please come in..." Gu Fan immediately welcomed them, attending to them with the utmost warmth.

Lin’s Father and Lin’s Mother nodded in approval. Upon entering the house, they saw Lin Yue’s calm expression and there was a tacit eye contact before Lin Yue shifted his gaze first, seemingly still not used to interacting properly with his own parents.

"Uncle, Auntie, please have a seat. The food is coming right up. Today, you can taste my cooking skills," Gu Fan said, easing any awkwardness as he invited Lin’s Father and Lin’s Mother to sit at the dining table.

Lin Xi also helped Gu Fan serve the food deftly. The two acted in sync, and their chemistry was filled with affection. Lin Xi’s gaze towards Gu Fan was filled with happiness.

It was clear to anyone that Gu Fan and Lin Xi were a good match, and Gu Fan’s performance as a host earned him Lin’s Father and Lin’s Mother’s silent approval.
