Those Classmates who Suddenly Disappeared -
Chapter 1050
Chapter 1050: 1050
That day, Gu Fan had just gotten out of bed when he saw a message from Guo Ye, who said he wanted to discuss something important in person, insisting it couldn’t be discussed over the phone.
Gu Fan was puzzled, wondering what could be so important to this guy.
Initially, Gu Fan didn’t take it seriously. He got up, brushed his teeth, washed his face, then went out for his morning exercise. Just as he was returning to his front door, Guo Ye suddenly jumped out from the side, giving Gu Fan quite a scare. "You are really popping up like a ghost," he exclaimed.
"How about that, is it surprising or unexpected?"
Gu Fan patted his chest, then nodded with a bitter smile, "Such a surprise. Why did you come so early?"
Guo Ye replied immediately, "Didn’t I tell you it’s a matter of great importance? I’m anxious, as it’s about my lifelong happiness."
"What does your lifelong happiness have to do with me?" Gu Fan was quite baffled, then opened the door, and the two of them walked into the old house together.
Guo Ye seemed impatient and began to explain his purpose before even sitting down: "I’ve already discussed it with a few old classmates, and they all agreed to organize a reunion. We’ve contacted about half the people already, with the rest still in progress. But that’s no longer important."
Gu Fan looked at Guo Ye with skeptical eyes: "You seem to have contacted the person you wanted to show up, and you confirmed she will attend, so the rest who haven’t been contacted no longer matter to you."
Guo Ye immediately defended himself: "Don’t look at me like that, and don’t put it that way. My main goal is still to help classmates reconnect, and if we can pair some up along the way, that’s a bonus. Helping to forge so many marriages, creating so many happy families—I’m doing a great deed. You should be supportive."
Upon hearing this, Gu Fan couldn’t help but exclaim, "You haven’t been in society for that long, and you’re already so good at finding noble excuses to cover up your shameless actions."
Guo Ye was at a loss for words, then took on a righteous demeanor: "Old classmate, are you going to help me or not?"
"How am I supposed to help? Just wanting someone at a gathering won’t do. On the day of the reunion, your crush definitely won’t be sitting with you, she will be with other female classmates. What chance will you have then?" Gu Fan’s remarks hit right at Guo Ye’s predicament.
"That’s why I’ve come to ask for your advice. In the past, no matter where Li Shi sat or how far away she was, you always found a way to speak with her, threading the needle. Can you teach me that skill?" Guo Ye put on a look of sincere desire to learn and even looked rather pitiful.
To this, Gu Fan shook his head: "I don’t have any special techniques; it all just happened naturally."
Guo Ye wouldn’t give up and kept hoping for some guidance from Gu Fan. His persistent attitude made Gu Fan feel awkward, seeing that Guo Ye wouldn’t leave until he achieved his goal.
"Old classmate, please help me. My entire happiness depends on you." Guo Ye was almost ready to cling to Gu Fan’s legs.
In response, Gu Fan sighed, "Do you really like her that much, or are you just unwilling to let go?"
"Unwilling to let go, my ass! During three years of high school, everyone lived together, interacted for three years. How could I not know what kind of person she is? Of course, I like her. I’m serious about it. I’ve had my eyes on her for a long time," Guo Ye pledged sincerely as if swearing an oath to the heavens.
Gu Fan thought it over and realized it made sense. Three years as classmates was enough time to understand someone’s character. If Guo Ye still liked her this much and hadn’t given up his pursuit, it seemed like true love indeed.
"All right, for the sake of our old friendship, I’ll help you out." Gu Fan put on a serious face ready to impart wisdom, and Guo Ye listened attentively.
Gu Fan continued, "First, you have to appear confident, you’ve found a good job, your career is stable, and that’s the source of your confidence. Secondly, you must stand out, meaning you should guide the atmosphere of the reunion, drawing attention to yourself. You can rest assured on this part—just start a topic, and I along with a few other classmates will join in, ensuring the ambiance picks up."
Hearing this, Guo Ye couldn’t help but give a thumbs-up, approving of the plan. However, Gu Fan felt strange, as if they were all sitting together scheming how to trap a decent woman.
Though feeling guilty, Gu Fan went on with the next part of the plan: "We’ll steer the conversation to something related to you and her, then you’ll take the opportunity to toast her, finding an excuse to express gratitude for past care. Of course, before doing this, we’ll do some preparation work, many toasts indeed, so when it’s your turn to toast her, everything will seem natural."
"Exactly, let’s do that," Guo Ye agreed. Then, as if remembering something, he looked at Gu Fan with a quizzical expression and added, "No wonder back in high school, whenever anyone brought up Li Shi covering for you when you were late, you said you wanted to properly thank her, and then you’d take Li Shi to the snack bar. You were smooth."
Gu Fan immediately clarified, "I genuinely wanted to thank her, and the idea to treat her to something came on the spur of the moment. There was no premeditation."
"Oh, I see, I get it," Guo Ye said with a sly smile.
Gu Fan feigned annoyance, "Buddy, if you digress again, I’ll stop talking."
Guo Ye hastily apologized, "Okay, okay, my bad. Don’t stop, please."
For two entire hours, Gu Fan discussed what they should do for the high school reunion with Guo Ye, who even started taking notes.
By the end of it, seeing Guo Ye’s satisfied look, it seemed the plan was almost foolproof.
"Thanks, Gu Fan. When I get married, I’ll definitely invite you to drink wedding toast," Guo Ye expressed his gratitude. Just as he was about to leave, something came to mind, and he looked at Gu Fan with a mischievous grin, continuing, "I forgot to tell you, Li Shi will also be there that day. If you seize the opportunity, maybe our weddings could be on the same day."
"Sorry, but I have a girlfriend, and I’ve already planned to propose to her," Gu Fan said, then gestured for him to leave quickly, clearly annoyed.
Still, Guo Ye wouldn’t give up, "That’s such a pity. Back then, we all could see you and Li Shi matched well. Everyone thought you two were a sure thing, but who knew, Li Shi transferred schools suddenly."
"Yeah, fate works like that, beyond our control," replied Gu Fan, not wanting to carry on the subject. The more Li Shi was brought up, the more memories flooded his mind. Finally, Gu Fan pushed Guo Ye outside the house.
With the guest finally gone, Gu Fan felt a bit tired and slumped on the couch, lost in thought.
Indeed, if Li Shi hadn’t transferred, the person beside Gu Fan wouldn’t be Lin Xi, and the subsequent events wouldn’t have happened. But there were no ifs in life—since Lin Xi was already by his side, she was the one he had to marry.
