Chapter 1002: Chapter 1002: I Have a Task for You
Su Hui and Gu Fan chased after each other and reached the foot of the mountain first, making sure Mo Yun wouldn’t arrive for quite some time, so they immediately stopped frolicking.
Gu Fan immediately shared his recent experiences and findings with Su Hui, hoping that after she knew more, she would cooperate.
"Oh my God, vampires from the West came to the Central Plains in ancient times?" Su Hui was surprised, and Gu Fan was even more astonished, "Sister, this has already spread throughout the Martial Arts world. You’ve been here for a while too, haven’t you heard about it?"
Su Hui shook her head, "When I came to ancient times, I found myself in a deep mountain forest and met a retired Martial Arts master. I spent most of my time practicing with this Martial Arts master, and then I headed straight to the Martial Arts Competition as soon I left the mountains. I really haven’t heard anything about Western vampires."
"You truly are closed off from the world, focusing solely on training. No wonder you arrived later than me, yet your Martial Arts skills are so much stronger than mine." Gu Fan felt somewhat unwilling to accept this; how much he wished to surpass Su Hui and finally liberate himself from the days of beatings.
Seeing the dejected look on Gu Fan’s face, Su Hui roughly guessed what he was thinking, and so she twisted his ear, "Listen here kid, if you’re still thinking of rebelling, then we’re done."
"No, Sister Su, you appeared when I needed my comrade the most. What’s this called? It’s called fate. We are fated comrades-in-arms, and right now, I’m counting on you to find Lin Xi." Gu Fan wasn’t just saying this; he was serious. He was now closely watching people like Mo Yun, Lord Xiong, and Xue Wang, so finding Lin Xi was something he could only rely on Su Hui for.
"Fine, I came here to help you find Lin Xi anyway," Su Hui said, as she put on her mask, "Since you think Lin Xi is currently with Jian Shen, and Lu Bei and Jin Yi know clues about Jian Shen, I’ll go find Lu Bei and Jin Yi. We’ll split up. You be careful on your own."
Gu Fan nodded, "Don’t worry, I’ll take good care of myself."
Su Hui said a few words of advice and then left, following Gu Fan’s instruction, so as to avoid being seen by Lord Xiong.
"Be careful, Sister Su!" Gu Fan watched Su Hui leave, feeling a bit reluctant.
Meanwhile, halfway up the mountain, Mo Yun ran into Lord Xiong on the way down and told him about the ambush by the leader of Xuanjian Sect.
Knowing that Gu Fan almost died at the hands of the leader of Xuanjian Sect, Lord Xiong too was surprised, "So, is Gu Fan not in cahoots with the leader of Xuanjian Sect?"
Mo Yun nodded, "That’s right. It was Gu Fan who exposed the conspiracy between the leader of Xuanjian Sect and the big householder, ruining their plans. The fact that the leader of Xuanjian Sect came to settle scores with Gu Fan is enough proof that they’re not allies."
"This is really strange, then why is Gu Fan so insistent on participating in the Martial Arts Competition, and how could he keep winning all his matches if no one is arranging everything for him? Where does he get the ability and confidence from?" Lord Xiong still thought there was something off about Gu Fan but couldn’t find any evidence.
Mo Yun added, "Maybe we got it wrong. Gu Fan wanted to join the Martial Arts Competition purely out of a competitive spirit, or perhaps he’s just here to stir up excitement and try his luck. As for his consecutive wins, it’s entirely because he took advantage of the situation."
Lord Xiong could only reluctantly accept this explanation, but he became curious about the identity of the Female Sword Immortal. How had someone who seemed to have a good relationship with Gu Fan suddenly appeared?
So Lord Xiong and Mo Yun went down the mountain together and happened upon Gu Fan, who had been waiting in the pavilion for a long time.
As soon as Gu Fan saw Lord Xiong, his face immediately contorted, "My Lord Xiong, you’ve finally shown up. You don’t know how dangerous it was for us just now, we almost fell into the hands of the leader of the Xuanjian Sect."
"I’m sorry, I’m old and not familiar with this place. It’s normal to get lost. Thankfully, you two were lucky, and it’s fortunate that you have a friend like the Female Sword Immortal," said Lord Xiong apologetically.
Mo Yun looked around, "Strange, where is your friend?"
"She’s gone!" As soon as Gu Fan uttered these words, Lord Xiong’s face changed subtly, and a murderous look flashed across his eyes, immediately alerting Gu Fan, who quickly explained, "Lord Xiong, rest assured, I haven’t divulged anything about you and Xue Wang. As for immortality, I don’t want to share it with others too soon."
Lord Xiong managed a smile, then patted his shoulder as though he didn’t really mind.
Mo Yun also said, "Gu Fan, you’re a smart person. I know you’ll do the right thing."
"Of course, who wouldn’t want immortality? I’m no exception," Gu Fan reassured, showing his allegiance to Lord Xiong’s side, which Lord Xiong liked.
Gu Fan showed a hint of frustration, "I had wanted to seize the seat of the Martial Arts alliance leader and command respect in my search for the five guardians, but it seems we have been busy for nothing."
Lord Xiong didn’t mind, "You’ve tried your best, and you’ve done well. It’s just a bit of bad luck, that’s all."
In reality, Lord Xiong was well aware that during the Martial Arts Competition, Gu Fan had been in contact with many people. If Gu Fan really meant to harm Lord Xiong, a lot of people would be watching Lord Xiong by now, and many would know of the existence of Xue Wang and the others.
"Am I overthinking it? Does this kid really pose no problem?" Lord Xiong still harbored a hint of suspicion towards Gu Fan, but eventually chose to continue trusting him.
At this moment, Mo Yun suggested, "All right, let’s go find Xue Wang. They must have been waiting for a while."
"Okay, let’s go," said Lord Xiong, leading the way from the front.
An idea struck Gu Fan, and he followed, "Lord Xiong, may I ask, if you are so powerful, why don’t you become the leader of the Martial Arts alliance?"
"I’m the kind of person who keeps a low profile and doesn’t like to show off," replied Lord Xiong, brushing off Gu Fan’s question, which made Gu Fan frown slightly. He was sure about one thing: Lord Xiong didn’t want too many people focusing on him. It wasn’t out of fear of exposing Xue Wang and the others because of his exposure, but rather fear of being discovered by certain individuals.
Looking at the back of Lord Xiong, Gu Fan grew increasingly curious, thinking to himself, "Lord Xiong, oh Lord Xiong, what identity are you really concealing?"
"All right, no dawdling, let’s hurry on," Mo Yun came over and nudged Gu Fan, snapping him out of his thoughts.
As they walked, Lord Xiong recalled something, then turned back with a serious expression and said, "When we meet Xue Wang, don’t say anything. I’ll do the talking."
Gu Fan and Mo Yun nodded, understanding why Lord Xiong had given them this warning. Their effort had been for nothing, and who knows when they would find the secret to true immortality—if I were Xue Wang, I’d be angry too.
