Chapter 95: Chapter 89: Outburst, Thank-you Gift
"No!" Several half-fairies, who were close by, watched their companion being severely injured, feeling sadness and anger, but had no good way to help, and could only watch helplessly as their companion fell to the ground.
"Roar!" Just then, with a roar, the teenager who had made a deep impression on Lucien burst out in the roar, his body swelling two to three times in an instant, his muscles bulged, exuding explosive power.
Bang—like a bulldozer, the teenager charged towards the giant ants in front of him, leaping and smashing the head of one giant ant, then staggered the two behind by kicking them. He cleared a space and pulled the severely injured half-fairy from the brink of death.
However, this action drew the attention of other giant ants, and soon, many began to swarm toward him and attacked without fear.
"Quite a strong body to the point of being a bit exaggerated." Lucien might have been the most relaxed in the team, even having the leisure to observe the overall battle situation.
After all, these Second-level Wizard Apprenticeship ants, except for their large numbers, really posed no threat to him.
Suddenly, with a slight tremor on the ground, a nearly two-meter tall red ant emerged from the earth.
Although their bodies did not look as ferocious as the usual giant ants, the large compound eyes seemed to possess a type of intelligence different than the black ants. These ants gently swayed their antennas on their heads, releasing special pheromones.
Under their "command," the ordinary giant ants that had been attacking chaotically now became organized, like soldiers properly following these red ants’ surroundings.
"Damn it, it’s a command-type ant species. Everyone, pull out all the stops and let’s break out together. If we get entangled by these swarms, we might all end up dead here today!"
The fairy leader also got a bit anxious. Though her strength was also on the threshold of a Formal Wizard, her power primarily relied on her Fairy Bloodline. Facing a number of iron ants, she was afraid to go all out, fearing that excessive consumption of her Bloodline Power might lead to premature exhaustion of her strength.
At this moment, she waved her wooden staff, but her body began to gradually turn woody, her breath becoming somewhat wild and unstable, yet her aura reached the level of a Formal Wizard.
"Get lost!" The fairy leader roared, while swinging her wooden staff. Each swing knocked one or two iron ants flying.
"Kill!" Bennett knew it was a critical and dangerous time, and he took out his last-resort measures.
A series of thin, transparent threads drilled out from his body, and many began to entangle and even penetrate the bodies of nearby iron ants.
Under the interference of these penetrating threads, some iron ants suddenly stiffened. Then they turned around, began cooperating with Bennett, and bit into their peers. Even in terms of attack tactics, these manipulated iron ants appeared to be more proficient and coordinated.
"That’s deep enough. A part of the Puppet Master’s heritage... even his proficiency in the Puppet Master’s domain seems no less inferior to his accumulation in witchcraft techniques," Lucien noted, watching Bennett’s eruption. Lucien flipped his hand and took out a test tube from the Space Ring, quickly swallowing the "potion" inside it. His aura also surged suddenly. With a wave of his hand, his strong spiritual power instantly condensed a witchcraft model, and then a rotating silver crescent moon condensed in front of Lucien.
Magic-induced Bloodline Technique[Moonfall·Modified]
At this moment, under the enhancement of Lucien’s nearly Formal Wizard-level spiritual power, the power of this witchcraft technique was increased from its original base, forming a silver moon blade that looked as tangible as if it were a special weapon forged of metal.
Swish—
Controlled by Lucien, the crescent moon traced beautiful arcs in mid-air, its sharp edge recklessly slicing the bodies of the iron ants, spattering flecks of blue-green fluid.
Lilia’s method was exceptionally simple. She smeared some of her blood on Adeline, after which Adeline’s stone and button-crafted eyes began emitting a red glow.
Sizzle—
The dozen iron ants closest to Lilia and Adeline had their blood forcibly extracted by an invisible force, turning them into mummified corpses.
The half-fairy named Ruth also erupted at this moment. Her pair of antlers on her head radiated intense fluctuations, causing many iron ants affected to fall into chaos, blindly attacking their peers as if they were their greatest enemies.
"Let’s go!" At this point, the fairy leader had completely transformed into a giant ancient tree nearly four meters tall. Each step she took caused a slight tremor on the ground. With her leading the team, and the other Level 3 Wizard Apprentices assisting and covering, this hybrid team’s escape speed increased a notch.
In such chaotic circumstances, even a third-level Wizard Apprentice, if separated from the group and left alone, could easily be devoured entirely by the frenzied swarm of ants. Despite efforts from several team leaders including Lucien to look after some of the weaker Wizard Apprentices, casualties were still inevitable.
The first to fall was a half-Fairy named Mo.
He had just had half of his thigh bitten off by a group of black ants. Although a secret technique of the Fairies allowed his leg to temporarily regrow, the new limb was ultimately less agile than the original.
Under a particularly malicious claw thrust, he was knocked down by a giant ant once again, but this time no one could come to his aid in time. He couldn’t even scream before a giant ant decapitated him, and his body was swiftly devoured clean by these ants.
Carly, who was in the team, also wielded a silver moon blade, continuously attacking the distant giant ants. While she succeeded in severing the forelimb of a giant ant at her side, two more showed their vicious mandibles toward her.
Carly’s expression changed. Just as she was about to use the powerful magic "Moon Curtain" to block the damage, Lucien’s controlled moon blade whizzed past her ear and quickly penetrated the head of a giant ant. Fluid splattered, covering Carly’s face with a good amount of it.
"Be careful, and conserve your Bloodline Power," Lucien cautioned. His controlled moon blade continued to sweep through the air in a beautiful arc, severely injuring three giant ants assaulting a robust young man.
However, the young man’s expression was numb, showing no reaction to Lucien’s aid. At that moment, rather than being a living person, he resembled a living tool.
But that was just a matter of convenience. Lucien quickly redirected his attention back to the giant ants at the front of their group.
Lucien dared not be careless, for the newly appeared red ants already possessed the aura of third-level Wizard Apprentices. If one or two ants comparable to a Formal Wizard emerged, he feared it would be difficult to even escape.
"Ah... no!" A stealthy assault by a red ant pulled Ruth, a female student, out of the group with its forelimb. She only managed to let out an alarmed cry before she was torn into pieces by several black ants.
"Break out!" At this point, the group was near the edge of the Mushroom Forest. Some desperately enduring apprentices saw hope and clenched their teeth to push forward, some even resorting to forbidden skills as a last struggle.
A new moon blade formed and swiftly severed a red ant’s forelimb; after carving an arc, it helped the somewhat struggling Gagarin kill two black ants, simultaneously severing another black ant’s forelimb during its departure, giving Gagarin a moment to breathe.
"Saved a life," Gagarin sighed in relief. However, glancing at a girl beside him who was wielding a bow, his eyes couldn’t help but reveal a hint of admiration.
At that critical life and death moment, if anyone among those Second-level Wizard Apprentices was safe, it was definitely Carly.
Even throughout the ordeal, Carly had suffered no injuries.
Almost the instant she faced danger, either a spinning moon blade or a blue-purple flame would appear directly from the ant beast’s body. While he and other apprentices had to fight desperately, sometimes only surviving by a sliver of luck.
Even though he was one of the stronger Second-level Wizard Apprentices, he still faced perilous situations. If not for being close to Carly, benefiting from her proximity, his situation would have been even more dire.
Thinking this, Gagarin glanced at his own teacher, Lilia, and his look towards Carly flickered with envy.
If Lilia could stand up in critical moments like Lucien did, then the various "fees" he’d paid over the years would have been worth it!
While Gagarin was contemplating, the group finally reached the outskirts of the Mushroom Forest, and after a few quick steps, they had left the realm of the giant Mushroom Forest behind.
"Thank goodness, it seems these ant beasts also have to follow some special rules." Watching a few red ants hesitating at the edge of the forest, seemingly reluctant to leave, everyone breathed a sigh of relief, and almost everyone stopped, several weaker Second-level Wizard Apprentices collapsed almost immediately, their eyes reflecting the joy of surviving a catastrophe.
There was no joy on Gagarin’s face as he watched Carly excitedly talking about something with Lucien. After hesitating for a moment, he decided to join them.
"Thank you for your assistance just now, Lord Lucien," Gagarin said as he respectfully removed a ring from his finger, "According to the principle of the Wizards’ equivalent exchange, this ring is my reciprocation to you, please accept it."
Saying this, he handed the ring, set with a blue Crystal Stone, to Lucien with both hands.
"I accept your gratitude," Lucien replied, ignoring Lilia’s unfriendly look as he took the Witch Tool handed over by Gagarin.
