Chapter 213 - 192: The Invitation from the Dream

Chapter 213: Chapter 192: The Invitation from the Dream

Dream Layer.

A bizarre "doll" clad in an intricate Western dress was darting through swiftly.

Her figure was elusive, and she seemed exceptionally familiar with the interior of the Dream Layer. At times she weaved into layers resembling pages of a book, entangling in battle with several nightmare creatures within a certain plane, then transforming into an abstract high-dimensional being, she played with her pursuers before quietly departing.

"These hounds are such a nuisance," grumbled the Helen Wizard, or should we say, Count Sanaxis rather disconcertedly. Although he seemed to be toying with his pursuers, his situation was actually quite dangerous due to the disparity between levels of life. After all, a slight mistake could result in being captured or even killed by the chasers.

However, with dexterous control over the Helen Wizard’s body, Count Sanaxis was like an acrobat on a high wire, becoming increasingly detached from the depths of the Dream Layer after each perilous "performance."

"To catch this great one, you’d better roll back to your dreams...ah, my apologies, I forgot you don’t sleep," Count Sanaxis laughed heartily, mocking those disgusting creatures as much as he could the moment he escaped the danger.

After that, Count Sanaxis hastily approached the surface of the Dream Layer, the area that connects with the Wizard World.

However, after flying for a while, the body of the Helen Wizard controlled by Count Sanaxis suddenly trembled violently, with parts of it even starting to collapse.

"Tsk, still too weak," Count Sanaxis muttered under his breath. Soon, he squirmed his way out of the Helen Wizard’s right eye, creeping out slowly.

In a series of somewhat eerie movements, the tentacles on Count Sanaxis’s body detached from their connection with the Helen Wizard. With Sanaxis’s complete withdrawal, the Helen Wizard’s body slowly recovered from its nearly shattered state, however, her one-eyed gaze at Count Sanaxis was filled with fear.

"Little one, be nice. There are benefits to sticking with this great one," Count Sanaxis wiggled his tentacles, looking at the Helen Wizard with a hint of jest and disdain.

The body of Helen Wizard trembled slightly, and without the need for additional instructions from Count Sanaxis, she naturally reached out her hand, carefully cradling the now seemingly "petite" Count Sanaxis in her palm, then quickly closed in towards the crevices of the Dream Layer.

...

"Worthy of being a Hell Blood Serpent, although it has died, the power that belongs to bloodshed, curses, and Contamination is still so intense, and so incompatible with normal life," Lucien remarked, holding a scalpel in the lab while fixedly observing the Hell Blood Serpent secured on the dissection table, his eyes ablaze with fervor.

"Instructor Lucien, this Hell Blood Serpent... I feel like it’s not exactly life, but more like an aggregation of blood," Carly, who was assisting Lucien in his research, commented as she observed.

As a Pureblood Fairy focused on cultivating and extracting Bloodline Power for advancement, Carly, in some aspects, even had a keener sense for bloodline utilization and understanding than Lucien.

She could sense the uncomfortable aura emanating from the Hell Blood Serpent and marveled at the mysteries contained within its body, constructed purely of blood.

Even she had the feeling that if she could delve into and master this sophisticated blood manipulation technique, she might be able to tap deeper into her own body’s Bloodline Power, thereby allowing her life level to metamorphose and reach maturity, corresponding to the status of a Formal Wizard.

"Hmm, it’s a special life form that thrives in ’Hell,’ and its existence cannot be measured in the same way as normal life forms," Lucien said, putting down the scalpel, while also carefully recording some of the natural runes and the structural connections between them found within the Hell Blood Serpent’s body.

"They can parasitize within powerful life forms, using these hosts as their sustenance for parasitic growth. Once they have consumed the host, they can even wear the skin of the life form, living life in place of the host for several years or even longer, depending on how well they know the host..."

As Lucien shared information about the Hell Blood Serpent, Carly’s face turned a shade paler.

"It’s just a small earthworm from Hell, you’re making it sound way too dramatic."

Just then, a discordant voice emerged from behind Carly, the obnoxious tone immediately informing Lucien and Carly of the speaker’s identity. Carly instinctively turned around, only to find that it wasn’t Count Sanaxis behind her but a seemingly stiff figure.

The figure looked like a petite woman dressed in a skirt, yet appeared somewhat fierce and bizarre. There was a resemblance to normal humans, but differences were also evident. This uncanny blend of a puppet and a real person created a visual impact that heightened the sense of unease, sending chills down one’s spine.

"You... who are you?" Carly shuddered all over, with delicate silver feathers emerging on her face.

"Alright, Sanaxis, it looks like your business here is done." After seeing the figure, Lucien paused for a moment. However, he quickly sensed the aura of Helen Wizard and Count Sanaxis on the figure, which allowed him to confirm the newcomer’s identity.

Lucien was also curious, as originally, Helen Wizard looked at least like a normal human wizard, even somewhat delicately beautiful. But now her appearance seemed fit for her to work in a haunted house without any preparation.

"Of course, when this lord takes action everything is as trivial as little Calamy, hey, it’s settled in no time." Count Sanaxis boasted shamelessly, as if the adventures in the Dream Layer were as easy as he described, all dangers vanishing with a flick of his fingers.

"You’re fooling nobody!" Carly couldn’t stand Count Sanaxis’s smooth talk and muttered under her breath.

"Hey, you pointy-eared thing!" Count Sanaxis seemed somewhat indignant, but upon seeing Lucien, he unusually refrained from bickering with Carly and instead leisurely hopped off Helen Wizard’s body and crawled towards his favorite grape throne.

"Forget it, I can’t be bothered to lower myself to your level, girl." Count Sanaxis’s voice was somewhat languid, and then he glanced at the Hell Blood Serpent on the dissection table.

"But I must remind you that this little creature has a much stronger life force than you imagine. Hmm, maybe one day this little earthworm might just ’rise from the dead’, hehe..."

"I am aware; it should return to the ’Blood Serpent’s Egg’ form before long." Lucien nodded slightly, for he had previously identified the Hell Blood Serpent and knew a lot about it. "However, I plan to craft it into Taint Sigils before it undergoes transformation..."

"Tsk tsk, didn’t expect you two-legged creatures to know so much." Count Sanaxis shook the grapevine, but his body seemed to have grown larger since he left, making the vine that was previously comfortable now appear rather small, which made his actions seem comical, drawing a muffled laugh from Carly.

"You pointy-eared thing, I have been putting up with you for a long time!" Count Sanaxis was angered into embarrassment, but in the end, it was all bark and no bite. After huffing, he fell silent and waited for Lucien and Carly to finish their dissection and research work.

"Instructor Lucien, I shall also return to assimilate this knowledge. I feel that certain structures in the Hell Blood Serpent’s body are somewhat similar to the structures of the Bloodline Power in my body. I believe that if I carefully attempt it, I might be able to unearth the Bloodline of the moon essence faster," Carly said with a smile on her face, waving goodbye to Lucien.

After Carly left, Count Sanaxis hesitantly turned to Lucien, "Hey, long-haired two-legged monster, didn’t you plan on continuing your research on that book of witch tools? How’s that going?"

"Are you referring to the Wizard’s Notes? I attempted to increase the number of uses for the pages by incorporating Thrail Bird’s Feathers into them, but the improvement was quite limited; at most, they could only record two or three spells from a Formal Wizard, which is not a significant upgrade compared to the previous versions."

"However, after adding an absorption feature, the current Wizard’s Notes can now have a certain chance of recording offensive spells from an adversary or ’recording’ an uncontrolled spell or a natural scene in the pages, which has increased its practical utility."

Thinking about this, Lucien picked up the Wizard’s Notes from nearby and began showing Count Sanaxis the notebook’s thick, pale yellow pages.

But Count Sanaxis seemed distracted, giving the Wizard’s Notes a desultory glance before saying in a casual tone, "Right, after I return to the Dream Layer, I thought of a type of ore that is unique to the Dream Layer, which seems to be very compatible with your witch tool."

"How about considering it? This lord can help you enter the Dream Layer!" Count Sanaxis looked at Lucien, but he seemed to have a fuzzy big tail raised behind him.
