Chapter 541: Chapter 541 Mysterious Companion

Diana told Chen Ke where the hand grenades were most likely kept—the courtyard’s crates certainly wouldn’t be stuffed with those dangerous explosives. The storage conditions for weapons equipment were very strict, typically similar to basements or specialized cold storage rooms. Considering the size of this place, searching for them shouldn’t be too difficult.

Chen Ke got out of the car and easily scaled the courtyard’s surrounding wall. A security guard was patrolling among the crates, but he didn’t seem very attentive.

Chen Ke casually strolled along, skillfully using the crates to shield himself from the guard’s view, unworriedly making his way to the white building at the north side of the yard, where a large storage room was located on one side.

He tried pushing the iron door, and unsurprisingly, it was securely locked. It was the most common type of large brass lock, its shackle as thick as an index finger. Chen Ke gripped the brass lock, preparing to melt it with An Helei’s Magic Flames.

Hmm...

Why isn’t it working?

Chen Ke suddenly remembered—the Witch’s power had already been given to Diana. He gently let go of the brass lock and looked up at the second floor of the small building. The windows there were open, with the sound of a ball game coming from inside.

"Big Bull Team scores again. The center of the Donkey Spurs, Peter, is underperforming in this match, missing too many rebounds."

Even standing below the building, Chen Ke could hear the noisy sound from the TV, but under his Spiritual Vision’s probe, the two security guards in the room were leaning back in their chairs, asleep.

They should have the keys.

Chen Ke ascended the stairs, glanced below at the patrolling guard who was smoking next to the door—really, what a leisurely job.

He strode quickly down the hallway, entering the room where the guards were located, tiptoeing past them, and began looking around the room. In a cabinet against the wall were several samples of Spirit Power Sealing Hand Grenades, surely inoperable, looking more like items for bidding.

In the 24-inch TV, the noisy basketball game continued, the ashtray on the table was filled with cigarette butts, only one of two cheap beers had been opened, and a half-smoked cigarette lay on the floor. It seemed the guards had fallen asleep quite abruptly...

Chen Ke didn’t find the keys in the room; it seemed they must be on the guards. Suddenly, he felt something was off, looking at the two sleeping guards, he had a feeling something wasn’t right.

Chen Ke approached one of the guards, extended a finger to test his breath—still alive, but very faint. The other guard lay face down on the table, his hat trapped beneath his chest.

"Hmm... someone got here before us..." Chen Ke muttered to himself. The state of these two guards didn’t look like they had fallen asleep naturally, but rather like they had been anesthetized...

Chen Ke inspected around the guards and found a small anesthetic dart under the table.

He picked up the anesthetic dart; the cartridge inside was empty. The device was about the size of a pinky finger’s pad and was likely shot by an anesthetic gun.

Hunting anesthetic guns are generally bolt or lever action rifles, used by zoos or forest patrol teams, but pistol-sized anesthetic guns are definitely military or medical use and are usually modifications of police pistol specifications.

Although an anesthetic gun wouldn’t be lethal, whether it could cause damage to brain functions was another matter; after all, a shot to the neck and a large dose of anesthetic directly into the artery could easily leave a person incapacitated—doctors still make you sign consent forms before surgery, as anesthesia has its risks.

He searched the guards for keys to no avail, meaning someone had already taken them.

Someone else, like them, intended to steal some hand grenades for use.

But who could it be...

Chen Ke pulled out his USP pistol and left the house silently, using his Spiritual Vision to scan the area and spotting a figure in the storage room below.

Chen Ke glanced into the courtyard; the guard had finished his cigarette and was heading toward the building, apparently his colleague above hadn’t relieved him, so he came up on his own.

"What’s the score now, Mike?" the guard’s voice reached before his footsteps.

As he stepped up, Chen Ke struck him under the chin, causing his eyes to roll back as he spun in place, then the guard collapsed against the stair rail, sliding down.

Chen Ke hurried to catch the guard and propped him against the wall to sit.

An intrusion was a fact, so he didn’t use time-stop to deal with this guard; besides, he didn’t want to double the consumption of his time.

He went downstairs again and returned to the outside of the storage room. Since the other party had used a key, there must be another door; it’s not like they could lock the front door from the inside.

Chen Ke circled the storage room and found a small door at the back. If the front door was for loading goods, then this smaller back door seemed like it was for staff access.

```
"Is it really necessary..." Chen Ke glanced at the small storage room and thought to himself.
He gently pushed open the small iron door; the room was dark, as there were no lights or windows, but it also allowed him to clearly see the flashlight beam of the previous intruder.
With the help of Spiritual Vision, Chen Ke slowly approached the mysterious intruder, judging by the figure, it was likely a female. She seemed to be stuffing something into her backpack.
The iron shelves in the storeroom were filled with metal boxes; judging by the letters stamped on them, they were all likely Spirit Power Sealing Hand Grenades.
In the maze formed by the iron shelves, at the end of the aisle, Chen Ke saw a dark figure. As if sensing someone approaching from behind, the figure halted its movements.
"Uh... did you sleep well?" The woman spoke in Federal language with an Asian accent; she sounded Asian.
"I’m not a security guard, but you’d better still raise your hands slowly," Chen Ke replied.
"What are you doing here?" The woman slowly dropped the backpack in her hand and then raised her arms.
"My business conflicts with yours a little... Is that bag of yours filled with Spirit Power Sealing Hand Grenades?" Chen Ke asked.
"You want them too? Your voice..." the woman hesitated.
"What? Fallen for my voice, have you?" Chen Ke asked.
"Are you Lin Mo?" The woman suddenly asked.
Chen Ke didn’t respond, his brain whirring to find the right word to follow up her question.
"You’re still alive? I heard you were dead," the woman said, slightly turning.
"Don’t move!" Chen Ke warned.
"Who are you working for now?" The woman wasn’t content.
"Who are you? How do you know me?" Chen Ke asked.
"Stop joking around. Does pointing a gun at an old flame make you feel good?" The woman said.
"Huh?" Chen Ke was taken aback.
The woman took the opportunity to turn around, and she had a gun in her hand too.
"Aren’t you pointing a gun at an old flame as well?" Chen Ke said.
"It was you who did it first; don’t blame me," the woman said.
"The gun in your hand is a tranquilizer gun, and mine can fire lead bullets. Do you want to see if we both fire, who will lie down first?" Chen Ke asked.
The woman didn’t say a word, but her breathing grew hurried.
"How about this, Lin Mo? Are you also here to steal the grenades? Why don’t we each take what we need and then make a getaway together?" the woman asked.
"No... you have to die here because you’ve seen me," Chen Ke shook his head.
Tomorrow he was going to rob the Administration Bureau, and he couldn’t afford any slip-ups. If he let this woman go, who knows if she would leak tonight’s event and pin the loss of the grenades on him.
"You weren’t this heartless before..." the woman said.
"Sorry, I don’t know you at all; I’ve talked too much. You can go to die," Chen Ke said coldly.
"Wait! Wait! Lin Mo! My partner and I are going to rob the Administration Bureau tomorrow... If you’re willing, I can let you join us!" the woman suddenly pleaded for mercy.
