Chapter 521: Chapter 521: No Longer What It Used to Be
"I’ve spotted Yasla’s man," Chen Ke whispered quietly, inching closer to Bader without drawing attention.
Upon hearing the news, Li Moyang immediately rose from his seat, wearing headphones, and stared intently at the surveillance monitor.
"I’ve never seen them... where?" asked Li Moyang.
"A Black Person, in a blue suit, is taking Lucina towards the exit," Chen Ke said.
Lucina had wanted to attend the auction, so she had met with everyone else earlier in the day.
"Black People... I see him. I thought they would look stranger," said Li Moyang, pinching his chin as he watched the screen.
"Most are indeed monsters, but this one is special. I’ve killed him once," said Chen Ke.
"That’s interesting, maybe I should pay more attention to the Yasla organization. On the bright side, at least it proves that our money wasn’t wasted; they indeed came," Li Moyang said.
"You keep an eye on the inside of the manor, see if there are other Yasla freaks. Leave Bader to me," Chen Ke said.
He followed Bader out, who seemed intentionally to move towards a more secluded area of the manor. This suited Chen Ke fine; he had many questions for Bader.
Outside the manor, armed security teams of three patrolled periodically. Chen Ke pressed his earpiece, signaling for the security personnel to lock down the gate and raise the alert level.
The auction could likely escalate into a firefight, but Chen Ke wasn’t worried about the safety of the guests. After all, those coming were either villains or sin merchants profiting from blood money. If they died, it meant little.
The three of them walked one after the other to the manor’s backyard. It was not very spacious, at least smaller than the front yard, and was filled with a dozen or so guests’ luxury sedans, with dense woodland beyond the fence.
"Bader..." Chen Ke called out to him.
Bader stopped in his tracks and turned around, his eyes flickering with a red glow.
"If I remember correctly, you should be dead," said Chen Ke.
"Maybe you took an oath to Frigga," Bader said with a smile.
Lucina glanced at Chen Ke and apologized with her eyes.
Without another word, Chen Ke threw a time bomb at Bader. The transparent sphere distorted the space around it and exploded silently at his feet.
A faint gust of air sent ripples through the lawn. Lucina’s face froze, her body stiffening in a strange position, motionless, even her dress no longer fluttering in the breeze.
Bader smiled at Lucina and then turned towards Chen Ke, unaffected.
Chen Ke was momentarily surprised but did not show it on his face. It appeared Bader was also a man transcending time.
"You’ve mastered the tricks of time, Chen Ke, but you aren’t the only one dancing in the tides of time," Bader said.
"Yasla has treated you well; you must know many things about them," said Chen Ke.
"They showed me the ultimate vision of the world, and I’ve walked the cracks between the future and the past. Now, I am beyond the comparison of the Spiritual Ability Users of this era," said Bader.
"Those who seek power will eventually be consumed by it. Look at you; you are no longer human," Chen Ke said.
"To define me as human is way too narrow-minded of you. Being inhuman comes at a cost, and I am awakened to that," Bader replied as he undid his suit buttons and took off his jacket. Chen Ke saw that his body was covered with dark red patterns, with something seemingly writhing beneath the bulging muscles.
"Chen Ke, you probably can’t believe that I am striving to save this world. What about you? What are you doing? Clinging to another leg, openly putting a fixed price on the key to saving the world?" Bader laughed.
Chen Ke summoned Balwic’s butcher’s cleaver, Diana’s Longsword.
"You should know what I’m about to do," he said slowly.
Bader recognized that sword; there was no mistake—it belonged to Diana.
"She’s a good woman, but you just have to keep bothering her, dragging her into danger," Bader said.
"Where is she?" Chen Ke asked.
"I’m not going to tell you. Her fate has already been sealed, and you should be responsible for her death," Bader said.
"Dead...?" Chen Ke frowned.
"It depends on how long she can hold out, but no one survives the interrogation of those cheongsam bitches," Bader said, his expression also very displeased.
"You’d best tell me where Yasla’s hideout really is, or I’ll show you what true pain is," Chen Ke summoned Florence’s suit while disabling the time bomb’s control.
Lucina stumbled and fell to the ground, quickly drawing her pistol and aiming it at Bader.
Chen Ke had already launched his attack, drawing his shotgun and pulling the trigger in rapid succession, Divine Blood Bullets making over a dozen holes in Bader’s flesh, sending him staggering back.
"Get out of here, Lucina!" Chen Ke yelled.
Lucina quickly scrambled to her feet and ducked behind a nearby car, knowing she couldn’t help in this battle. All she could do was to stay as far away as possible so as not to trouble Chen Ke.
Chen Ke kept firing, the sound of bullets entering flesh low and terrifying. Bader’s chest and abs were bloody and mangled, and he kept retreating, but there was a smile on his face.
"Is this all you can do, huh? It seems surpassing time has not put you ahead of this era, your use of Spiritual Energy is still so primitive," Bader laughed.
Bader swung a hard punch at Chen Ke from over six meters away, prompting Chen Ke to instinctively roll to the side.
It proved to be a necessary dodge as Bader’s entire arm exploded, dark twisting tendrils and unidentified red-glowing substances intertwining. The mass far exceeded the thickness of an arm, acting like thousands of black pythons twisted together, grazing the corner of Chen Ke’s clothing and smashing a hole in the surrounding wall.
Inside the mansion, gunfire erupted, interrupting the music. The panicked cries of the guests mingled with the roar of charging guns.
Chen Ke divided his attention, looking in the direction of the mansion.
"I didn’t come alone. The green Holy Diamond will belong to Yasla tonight, and both you and everyone in this mansion will go to hell. If you think you can kill me as easily as last time, you’re mistaken. I’ve changed since then!" Bader laughed.
Bader’s face split open, revealing black substance and two red eyeballs, his body turning entirely black. The split tendrils of his right arm retracted from the wall, writhing wildly towards the sky, their tips morphing into frenziedly dancing blades. Meanwhile, his stature began to increase abruptly, swelling from around 1.8 meters to over 2 meters in height.
Previously, under Spiritual Vision, Bader had no outline and gave off no aura of killing intent to Chen Ke, but now he was enveloped in a ring of golden hooks, just like the FBI Director.
"Professional..." The word suddenly came to Chen Ke’s mind.
"+70 hours..."
"+70 hours..."
"+70 hours..."
"+70 hours..."
...
"Chen Ke? Yasla’s men have launched their attack. The good news is there aren’t many of them, the bad news is... they’re really formidable..." Li Moyang’s voice came through the earpiece.
Without a doubt, Yasla had sent their elite. It seemed that the green Holy Diamond was truly extraordinary. A fierce battle was inevitable.
