Chapter 511: Chapter 511 Another Outcome

A red muscle car sped along the midnight highway.

Diana was driving Lucina’s car, heading to the Administration Bureau of Holy Oak Opportunity City. She had intended to take out her phone to call Madeline, but then she remembered that she had thrown her own phone away.

If what Chen Ke said was true, then the assassin’s attempt to stab her hadn’t happened in this time frame yet.

She now knew there was a problem with Bader and had also started to suspect Steve. Both of them were currently untrustworthy. She needed to quickly find Madeline and inform her about the various forces infiltrating the Administration Bureau.

"Beep... beep... beep... beep..."

As the car passed through countryside, the sound of the waves and the sea breeze were refreshing, but the beeping sound inside the car puzzled her.

"What’s that sound?"

Diana opened the glove compartment in front of the passenger seat, reached in, and pulled out a Spiritual Ability Pistol.

"It’s not this making the noise... But why would she..." Diana wondered, perplexed.

She threw the gun onto the passenger seat and then opened the sun visor above her head, scattering a collection of speeding tickets onto her shoulders and thighs. After picking up a few and glancing at them, they were all for speeding.

For some reason, Diana felt that Lucina certainly hadn’t paid off these tickets.

The beeping continued, an unsettling sound. Unable to find the source, Diana could only pull the car over to the side of the road and then get out to check. On the quiet highway, the sound grew louder, emanating from the car’s undercarriage.

Diana had a bad premonition. To flee or not? But in this wilderness, it was tough to just leave the car behind.

Hesitating, she stepped back a few paces, intending to bend down and look under the car when she noticed a tiny red light blinking from underneath...

"Could it be a bomb..."

"Boom!"

Before Diana could finish her sentence, an explosion erupted before her eyes. A blue flame burst from beneath the car, instantly enveloping the vehicle and tearing it apart.

The car door flew off with a bang, hitting Diana and sending her flying through the air over 3 meters away, slamming her lower back against the highway guardrail with a crack.

"Uh oh!" Diana groaned as she knelt on the ground, feeling as if her body had been split in half. Blood trickled from her ears; the close, unguarded proximity to the violent explosion caused her severe tinnitus.

"Damn... What happened..." Diana forced herself to stand up. The bomb wasn’t very powerful; as the flames died down, the car wasn’t charred, but the electronic control and driving systems were destroyed.

She quickly deduced that it was not an ordinary bomb, not triggered by gunpowder. The power had been deliberately adjusted to be relatively small, just enough to cause loss of control of the car.

There was only one purpose for doing this: to capture the driver alive.

The bomb was planted on Lucina’s car. Someone wanted to capture Lucina alive... Diana sighed, having thrown away her phone, she had no way to tell Chen Ke about it.

In an instant, she regretted discarding her phone. If she had known there would be issues with time, she wouldn’t have done so. Diana felt a sense of depletion but still forced her spirit to remain strong.

She looked toward the end of the highway and saw a black van stopped there, with several silhouettes beside it.

Diana turned to walk back the way she had come, and noticed two black sedans stopped not far behind, with several more silhouettes standing in front of them.

Under the moonlight, they stood tall, silently approaching Diana. Their shadows stretched long on the ground, and the sound of the waves and the chirping of the insects in the woods made the atmosphere very isolating at this moment.

Summoning her sword, Diana gritted through the pain in her waist, crossed over the demolished muscle car, and climbed over the highway guardrail heading toward the woods. In her current physical state, she could not endure being attacked by so many people.

She hadn’t seen who the comers were, but they were definitely no good, and it was even questionable whether they were human.

Diana slid down the muddy slope, confronting an open lawn ahead of her. The dark forest was still a few hundred meters further on. Glancing back, those shadows had seemingly teleported, already beside the muscle car.

By the moonlight, Diana made out their appearances: a group of strange people donning black hooded robes, with disproportionate limbs and peculiar faces leading them—a bald woman.

"Yasla!" Diana muttered under her breath.

Why would these people plant a bomb on Lucina’s car? Now wasn’t the time to ponder that; falling into their hands, who knew what would become of her?

Diana turned and ran, but her body felt like it had been nailed together; every movement brought excruciating pain. She had only run a few steps before she fell to her knees, overcome with agony.

"Catch her. Don’t be too rough, the lady wants her alive," the bald woman instructed.

Nine strange beings immediately climbed over the fence, leaping onto the lawn, and approached Diana. Their hands slowly extended from their sleeves, fingers sharp as blades.

"I am... an agent of the Administration Bureau, and the consequences of killing me are severe!" Diana stood up, leaning on her sword, and threatened, although she didn’t think these strangers would care.

"Stop trying to scare us, you thieving bitch," one of the strange people sneered.

Three of them attacked first, targeting Diana’s limbs. Their arms and fingers lengthened like vines, morphing into thirty repulsive whips that lashed at Diana, tearing her shirt and pants to shreds.

Blood spattered as several gashes were sliced across Diana’s thighs and waist, and her left arm was tightly ensnared. The strange people’s attacks were much faster than she anticipated.

She slashed her sword, cutting the vine around her left arm, then took a step forward with both hands on the sword and thrust at the nearest assailant. The blade sank into the strange person’s upper arm. With a twitch of her sword, she pulled downward, forcing the figure to kneel, then yanked the sword back and swung, beheading the enemy.

At the same time, two other beings closed in on her, their sharp fingers plunging into her lower back and ripping out a chunk of flesh.

"Ah!!! Uh..." Diana’s body shuddered. She stabbed backward with her sword, piercing the stomach of a pursuer. Twisting the hilt and using her body weight, she pressed backward against her assailant.

Another attacker clawed fiercely towards her chest. With the sword still stuck in the body behind her, Diana could do nothing but brace for the blow. Five skeletal, spiky fingers clutched her collarbone mercilessly and tore downwards, leaving five ghastly wounds across her chest, skin and tissue rupturing, fat oozing from the lacerations.

"Mmm!!!... Mmm..." Diana’s chest burned with pain, stars dancing in her eyes. She pushed at her foe with a palm, and the air suddenly exploded, hurling the figure before her away.

Afterwards, Diana withdrew the sword from the fallen body and drove it into the ground, panting heavily. Blood steadily seeped from the wounds on her chest and back.

The six remaining strangers were undeterred by their comrade’s death, and more tendrils lunged at Diana.

She brandished her longsword, slicing through several of them, then watched in horror as her body was pierced. A gush of blood escaped her lips.

"Ssss..."

The vines retracted from Diana’s body, and her trembling hands turned the longsword into a small diamond blue with a flash. It fell among the grass, and she collapsed listlessly.

The bald woman walked over to Diana, grabbed her hair, and examined her face closely. Diana, enduring the pain, glared back.

"How did her skin get so pale...? I remember her being darker-toned..." the bald woman mused.

"Perhaps it’s because of the moonlight," a strange person beside her suggested.

"Is the car a mix-up?" the bald woman continued to inquire.

"No mistake, it’s red, a muscle car; the license plate was checked too," came the reply.

"Hmm... then let’s bring her back first," the bald woman decided.

She released Diana’s head, letting her face drop back into the mud and then had several strange beings tie Diana’s hands and feet with rope, hoisting her into a black van.

A few minutes later, all that remained was an abandoned red muscle car, as if nothing had happened.
