This Spiritual Energy is Lethal! -
Chapter 496: Jet Lag
Chapter 496: Chapter 496: Jet Lag
"That is quite an ambitious goal... I wish you success," Chen Ke said.
He was surprised by the grand endeavor Li Moyang wanted to work towards, but he did not show it on his face. Spiritual Energy’s power came from the deities, and to erase Spiritual Energy, one would need to find a way to kill these deities.
Hmm...
Chen Ke frowned and looked at Li Moyang seriously, a plan beginning to form in his mind.
"What are you trying to say?" Li Moyang was somewhat surprised, Chen Ke’s gaze making him uneasy.
"I guess this goal of yours isn’t a spur-of-the-moment idea, is it?" Chen Ke said.
"Of course, I’ve been researching the composition of Spiritual Energy for several years now, trying to uncover its secrets," Li Moyang nodded.
"Are you researching it, or is your team researching it?" Chen Ke asked with a puzzled look.
"I myself am doing the research," Li Moyang stated lightly.
"Then you are very brave! Are you saying you’re better than the researchers?" Chen Ke’s face was full of disbelief.
"Chen Ke, you might think I’m just a spoiled rich kid, but you’re wrong. I have twelve PhDs, am fluent in seven languages. What do you think makes me, at just over 30, the chairman of the world’s leading heavy industry conglomerate? Just because I’m my father’s son?" Li Moyang explained.
"Tsk... To what extent have you researched? Any substantial progress?" Chen Ke asked.
"Well... it’s hard to admit, but I’ve conquered many challenges before. Whenever I told myself, ’because I am Li Moyang,’ I would succeed, but this time, my little ’magic’ didn’t work... I completely can’t analyze the composition of Spiritual Energy," Li Moyang said, somewhat dejected.
"It looks like your twelve PhDs didn’t help," Chen Ke said.
"But as far as I know, the research institute is also at their wit’s end with Spiritual Energy. They are currently only at the level of applying Spiritual Energy... they use it without understanding the reason," Li Moyang said.
As he spoke, he stood up, went to a glass cabinet to get a bottle of new champagne, then returned to his seat.
"I think I understand what you are trying to do... you want to analyze the essence of Spiritual Energy... then figure out a way to eradicate it?" Chen Ke asked.
"Very smart, that’s exactly what I’m thinking. Do you understand chemistry, Chen Ke? Water is composed of hydrogen and oxygen, chemically written as H2O. To get rid of water, you just need to separate hydrogen and oxygen. But what about Spiritual Energy? What is that made of?" Li Moyang asked in frustration.
"Maybe that thing is originally an element, and you can’t separate it?" Chen Ke suggested.
"Impossible, a single element would not display various characteristics. Spiritual Energy is divided into 6 categories and 18 types; it not only mimics the effects of natural elements but even includes human emotions and indescribable energies. If it were merely one Element, why would it display so many appearances and traits?" Li Moyang shook his head.
"Did Lin Yaying ever reveal any information about Spiritual Energy to you?" Chen Ke asked again.
"She would never tell me that. Before you killed her, why didn’t you think about asking her properly?" Li Moyang spread his hands.
"She died very suddenly... and she promised revenge. Li Moyang, I think it’s very dangerous for you to continue staying here," Chen Ke said.
"They can travel through time and space, if they wanted to get revenge on me, I would have ceased to exist by now. So I think I’m relatively safe for now, but... Chen Ke, what exactly are you?" Li Moyang wondered.
"Didn’t you know already?" Chen Ke said.
"I think my intelligence is wrong... You’re definitely not just a corporate Assassin. Maybe an undercover agent from the Administration Bureau? Maybe... I don’t want to guess. If you don’t want to tell me, then let it be," Li Moyang said.
"When I think it’s necessary to tell you, I will tell you..." Chen Ke responded.
His BlackBerry vibrated in his pocket, and when he took it out, it was a call from Lucina.
"I think I should go now, Li Moyang, you owe me a favor," Chen Ke stood up.
Li Moyang also stood up, seemingly ready to see him off.
"We might be able to establish a stable alliance... Chen Ke, having one more wealthy person as a friend isn’t a bad thing," Li Moyang smiled.
"It’s been good to get to know you, Li Moyang," Chen Ke nodded, picturing the scene in the Hainerd Fishery’s safe house, reaching out to turn the doorknob.
"So... until next time, Chen Ke. If you need anything, you know my number," Li Moyang watched Chen Ke walk into the doorway, behind it was the view of another room.
Chen Ke closed the door and came into the safe house, his previously occupied chair was still in front of the bed, two handguns and a shotgun lay on a table, several AR15s leaning against the bedhead, with a half-drunk cup of coffee on the table.
Lucina and Hainerd were not there, Chen Ke answered the phone.
```
...
"Did you notice anything? It’s getting colder," Lucina looked at Diana, who was resting with her eyes closed.
Diana didn’t respond, resting her forehead on her right hand and leaning motionless in her chair.
Lucina felt a chill, the weather had suddenly turned much colder. She looked toward Hainerd, whose expression was inexplicably odd.
"We should head back, Lucina," Hainerd said.
"Huh?" Lucina was startled.
"Who is this woman?" Hainerd asked cautiously, glancing at the dozing Diana, and instinctively reached for his Glock pistol.
"Dad..." Lucina was surprised by Hainerd’s abnormal behavior; she tapped the table, trying to wake Diana.
"What?! What?" Diana jolted upright.
"Hey... girl, who are you? Where are you from?" Hainerd asked.
"I... I’m Diana, what’s this all about?" Diana looked at Hainerd, confused. She then turned to Lucina, who appeared equally bewildered.
"Dad, what are you doing?" Lucina was puzzled.
"Lucina, tell me what’s going on? Why are we sitting in our own basement? And how did this woman get in here?" Hainerd asked.
"What?" Lucina said, confused.
"Lucina... check the time." Diana glanced at the small wall clock, hinting.
Lucina also looked and immediately noticed something was wrong with the time. She took out her phone, illuminated the screen, and saw it shift from July to April. She silently stared at the table, trying to figure out what had happened.
"What’s this? Are our phones broken?" Diana asked.
"No... there’s something wrong with the time," Lucina said uneasily.
"I don’t understand what you’re talking about. Ms. Diana, you better explain where you came from," Hainerd stood up, eyes fixed on Diana.
"If I remember correctly, it was you guys who tied me up and brought me here," Diana spread her hands.
"What?" Hainerd stood frozen.
"Dad... she’s right, it was us who tied her up and brought her here," Lucina said.
"Uh! How do I not remember? What exactly happened?" Hainerd was surprised.
"To be exact, it was you and I from July who tied her up and brought her here," Lucina added, then turned to Diana, "Which month are you from?"
"I’m just like you, it seems only your dad is affected," Diana said.
"I need to call Chen Ke..." Lucina said.
"It’s no use... we’ve tried calling before, he’s out of the service area," Diana shook her head.
Beep... beep... beep...
"It connected! Damn! It actually connected!" Lucina shouted excitedly. Hainerd stood by, not quite understanding why Lucina was so thrilled.
"Lucina? Where are you guys?" on the other end, Chen Ke asked.
"Chen Ke! Where are you? You disappeared from the chair two days ago! Are you okay? Are you still human? Do you have a physical body?" Lucina trembled.
"What kind of questions are these... I’m at the fishery, where have you guys run off to?" Chen Ke asked.
"Fishery... Chen Ke, the fishery was blown up," Lucina said.
"What?!" Chen Ke was shocked.
"Then some strange things happened, there’s something wrong with the time," Lucina added.
