This Spiritual Energy is Lethal!
Chapter 495: Li Moyang’s Ambition

Chapter 495: Chapter 495: Li Moyang’s Ambition

Lin Yaying’s corpse slowly melted and eventually dissolved into a pool of corpse water, along with everything on her body, leaving no trace of her demise.

Chen Ke tested the liquid with the tip of his shoe. It was sticky and tarry, staining the upper layer of his shoe a dark brown color.

"Are you sure... that woman was just possessed by an Old Dominator?" Chen Ke mused to himself.

"100% chance." Thoughts came from the black stone.

Chen Ke furrowed his brows. If that was the case, then this incident might be a big deal. Judging from the cross-dimensional possession of Lin Yaying and the immediate eradication of her, this Dominator held a position within the Foundation that was not merely that of a tool.

More like a ruler to some extent.

Chen Ke didn’t know if the Foundation in base reality had an Old Dominator manipulating from behind the scenes, but in all likelihood, it would not be so extreme.

What gave Chen Ke a sense of crisis was not the Dominator itself but the fact that the Dominator’s abilities could take effect in the Illusion Dream Center. That was very bad.

Chen Ke wasn’t afraid of even the strongest Power User. If he couldn’t beat them, he could immediately hide, and there were ways to kill those of the Clan, but he had no experience in slaying deities.

The characteristics and usage of the Illusion Dream Center still needed more exploration. Chen Ke had thought of turning this place into a prison for Power Users, like the Manhattan Prison in Marvel comics, but it seemed this plan might fail.

Chen Ke then turned his attention to Li Moyang, who had taken advantages he shouldn’t have and now wanted to flee after reaping the benefits — true to form as a businessman.

He returned to the front of his house, pulled open the door, and reentered Li Moyang’s mansion. The fireplace crackled with fire, the sofa was empty; Li Moyang was nowhere to be seen.

"Li Moyang?" Chen Ke called out.

No one responded.

He activated his Spiritual Vision, but he could see nothing; the house itself was a mutated entity, capable of blocking all effects of Spiritual Energy. Yet, Chen Ke could clearly see the blue fire from Lin Yaying’s fists just moments ago.

There were only three possibilities: either Lin Yaying was bluffing, only the owner had the say on who could use Spiritual Energy in this house, or... what Lin Yaying used was not Spiritual Energy at all.

Chen Ke shook his head. The more he thought about it, the more distant his thoughts strayed. It was pointless to ponder over questions to which he could not find answers. Right now, the most important thing was to find Li Moyang.

"Bang!"

The sound of a shotgun firing came from beneath his feet, and Chen Ke became alert.

He pulled a USP pistol out of his Dimension Pocket; there were three rounds left in the magazine. He slid the magazine out of the grip, pried out the two bullets pressing up against it, discarded them, then ejected the chambered round before reinserting the magazine.

The Divine Blood Bullets slowly chambered, 1, 2, 3... 9, 10, 11... until it reached a full 12 rounds. A row of red bullet icons appeared in Chen Ke’s vision.

With this ability, there was no need for bullets at all, which he found extremely convenient.

Chen Ke pushed open the door to the hallway; the gunshot had come from downstairs. Who else could be in this house but Li Moyang?

Following the sound of the gunshot, he descended towards the basement. The white wooden door at the bottom of the staircase was ajar, blood on its frame.

Just as Chen Ke was about to go down and investigate, Li Moyang appeared, shouldering a shotgun and casually stepping upstairs.

"What are you... doing?" Chen Ke asked.

"I’m killing rats. I take it you’re finished with your part? Come on, let’s sit down and have a drink, have a good chat," Li Moyang said nonchalantly.

Watching Li Moyang walk up the stairs as if nothing had happened, Chen Ke said nothing more. He followed Li Moyang back to the second-floor room, experiencing a 180-degree shift in the other’s attitude toward him.

Before time reversed, Li Moyang had been arrogant and impatient with Chen Ke, but now, although he still seemed aloof, he was much more cordial in his actions.

Li Moyang poured Chen Ke a glass of champagne, adding two ice cubes into it, and then settled on the sofa to fix himself a drink, seeming in a good mood.

"Chen Ke, tell me, what happened to Lin Yaying?" he asked eagerly.

"Dead." Chen Ke said bluntly.

Li Moyang was silent for two seconds, then his brows smoothed, and the corners of his mouth lifted slightly. He raised his glass in a toasting gesture and then tossed back his drink in one gulp.

Chen Ke followed and drank as well, and he had to admit that, although he wasn’t one for alcohol, this champagne was really good—a single sip revealed it wasn’t cheap.

"That’s wonderful! You’ve exceeded my expectations! The moment you opened the door and took her away, I knew you were extraordinary!" Li Moyang said excitedly.

"Don’t celebrate too soon! Li Moyang, you’re aware that after what’s done, you and I will face their retaliation, right?" Chen Ke reminded.

"I know, but I’m prepared for it. Chen Ke, have I ever told you my story?" Li Moyang refilled their glasses and then began to chat with him.

"Are you really going to tell me this?" Chen Ke asked.

"Of course, you’ve solved a big problem for me, Chen Ke. This is very significant for me. I originally thought it would take me a decade or more to break free from the control of the Divine Descent Sect, but you did it in minutes," Li Moyang said.

"You mentioned that your parents were accidentally killed by a superhuman. I’m curious about how that happened," Chen Ke said, picking up his glass and giving it a swirl, the ice cubes clinking inside.

"That superhuman was in pursuit of another illegal Spiritual Cultivator at that time. The two crashed through the corporate building of my family’s company with their bodies of steel. That happened in the year 2004," Li Moyang explained.

"Spiritual Cultivator...?" Chen Ke heard a new term.

"In the Fei Huang Republic, there is a way to use Spiritual Energy without injections, but it doesn’t last long. The upside is it bypasses all regulation; the downside is it consumes a lot of resources. Without a financial Clan backing you, it’s impossible to practice Spiritual Cultivation," Li Moyang said.

"Practice? Don’t tell me Spiritual Cultivators gain the power of Spiritual Energy just by meditating and taking drugs," said Chen Ke.

"Of course it’s not that comfortable, and it’s dangerous. They need to consume a vast amount of drugs regularly to make their bodies carriers for Spiritual Energy. A slight mistake could lead to addiction; they call themselves Spiritual Cultivators, but they are nothing more than drug addicts," Li Moyang stated.

"But to become a superhuman just by taking drugs, that’s quite something..." Chen Ke shook his head.

"It’s not without a cost. Leaders become superhumans through drugs and can only maintain the state for a few days. Plus, having such strong power in such a short time is something they can’t handle, and those muddled drugs aren’t exactly healthy. Prolonged use will degrade the body," Li Moyang said.

"Does the mainstream of Spiritual Ability Users in the Fei Huang Republic also inject liquefied Spiritual Energy into their spines? Maintaining it for seven days, then resting for one month after drainage?" Chen Ke asked curiously, as he was indeed unaware of the situation there.

"This is the most mature and safe method worldwide without side effects. Proper Spiritual Ability Users all go through this process. In the Fei Huang Republic, there is no Spiritual Power Industry; Spiritual Ability Users are all from official agencies," Li Moyang explained.

"I’ve heard about it; after all, there are national circumstances involved... But I’m curious, if the Spiritual Power Industry is worldwide, isn’t the Fei Huang Republic falling behind by not participating?" Chen Ke inquired.

"The development and research of Spiritual Energy in the Fei Huang Republic are all controlled by state institutions, and the private market isn’t open. In the realm of civilian Spiritual Energy products and medications, the Fei Huang Republic indeed lags behind; at least I never saw any Spiritual Energy skincare products there... But militarily, they are still very competitive," said Li Moyang.

"Alright, let’s leave international affairs there. What did you kill down in the basement earlier? That’s what I’m more interested in," Chen Ke said, taking a sip of champagne.

"Some strange creature brought by Lin Yaying, like a dog but not a dog, used to guard the interior of this estate, mainly responsible for monitoring whether I left here or not," Li Moyang replied.

"And then you just killed it...? Just like that?" Chen Ke asked.

"All thanks to you, Chen Ke. That thing seemed to lack intelligence. If I didn’t go out, it wouldn’t attack me. And when Lin Yaying wasn’t around, it seemed to lack special powers. I didn’t act before mainly out of fear of Lin Yaying..." Li Moyang topped up Chen Ke’s glass.

"I hope you’re prepared. Lin Yaying is dead, but this is not the end," Chen Ke cautioned.

"I’m prepared and ready for whatever comes. You don’t really think I got into the Spiritual Power Industry just for money, do you?" Li Moyang laughed.

"Then what are you after?" Chen Ke asked.

"I want to unlock the secrets of Spiritual Energy and find a way to erase it from this world. That is my purpose," Li Moyang declared.
