Chapter 491: What Have You Lost?
Chapter 491: Chapter 491: What Have You Lost?
Chen Ke pushed open the door of his home once again, and the afternoon sun of Opportunity City fell on him, bringing a surge of warmth.
He checked his attire, having retrieved all the Holy Diamonds, and although he didn’t have a gun, it didn’t matter.
Chen Ke stepped out, walked down the Raffi Road of Opportunity City in April, closed the door behind him, and turned around to find, to his surprise, that he was in front of Zio’s clothing store.
Across the street, next to Bozi Bar, a black limousine caught his attention — Chen Ke knew it was Li Moyang’s ride.
"Beep beep beep beep..."
The BlackBerry phone rang aptly just then, and upon checking, indeed, it was Li Moyang calling.
That afternoon was the first time he and Li Moyang had made contact. Li Moyang saw this contact as an opportunity to delve into the Transcendent realm, hoping Chen Ke would help him kill Corrigan, the founder of Si’s consortium.
The opportunity to become Transcendent was really just a meeting with Lin Yaying, a woman of the Divine Descent Sect, who did indeed reveal some things to Chen Ke. Corrigan was just one on a list of assassination targets linked to Lin Yaying.
Was the Clan beyond the boundaries of time? Chen Ke didn’t know. Another Chen Ke was from the Clan too, but he had time-traveled, so even if Chen Ke returned to the past, it wouldn’t resurrect him.
However, as for Corrigan being merely of the Clan, whether he had time-traveled was unknown to Chen Ke. Therefore, Chen Ke was also unaware of who now held the highest authority within the Si’s consortium.
"Hello," Chen Ke answered the phone.
The person on the other end said nothing, and Chen Ke also remained silent, the standoff continuing.
...
...
...
He watched the call timer on his phone reach over one minute. During their last call, it had been Chen Ke who couldn’t keep calm and spoke first, but this time, he was much more patient.
"I must say you really are patient, Chen Ke," Li Moyang finally spoke on the other end of the line.
"I am always patient," Chen Ke responded.
"You’re no ordinary assassin. I like your attitude. I will ask you three questions next. Just answer them without any unnecessary chatter. Understood?" Li Moyang said.
"Listen, Li Moyang, I know you’re sitting in a black stretch limousine with the last three digits 666, parked next to Bozi Bar on Raffi Road. Let’s skip the pleasantries. How about I just come directly to you?"
"..." Li Moyang didn’t respond.
Chen Ke hung up the phone and walked straight toward the black limousine. The bald man in a suit looked astonished as he saw Chen Ke approaching, his hands slowly moving toward the inside of his suit pockets.
A sudden surge of killing intent emanated from behind Chen Ke, flooding into the bald man’s body, who managed to hold himself up for two seconds before stumbling and collapsing by the car door.
Chen Ke stepped forward, placed his left hand on the roof of the limousine to activate a time stop, freezing the whole vehicle’s time, creating an enclosed prison. His right hand’s orange light flickered and materialized a Blasphemous Dagger, which he cleanly thrust into the bald man’s chin.
He twisted the dagger handle, the blade piercing through the jaw, tongue, and directly into the brain. The rotating blade turned the man’s brain into mush. Afterward, Chen Ke reverted the dagger back into a Holy Diamond, the blood-stained orange gem was immediately placed into the Dimension Pocket.
The bald man’s eyes rolled back, blood flowing from the cut in his chin onto his black suit. Chen Ke supported his arm, positioning him on a nearby bench, letting his head droop as if he were asleep, although he was covered in blood.
Li Moyang, looking through the window, saw one of his bodyguards being killed and hurriedly urged the driver to start the car.
"The accelerator won’t press down!" the driver exclaimed in a panic, trying to pull open the small window between the driving and passenger compartments, but it wouldn’t budge.
"Are you kidding me?" Li Moyang shouted angrily. He signaled to the fat bodyguard sitting opposite him, who took out his USP pistol, vigilantly watching the outside while trying to check if the doors were locked.
"Don’t panic, Mr. Li. You’re safe. He’s just one man and has already alarmed us. I have a gun..." the fat bodyguard said, watching as the car door was pulled open.
Chen Ke slipped inside, grabbed the USP pistol’s slide, and pulled it back, ejecting a bullet.
The bodyguard pulled the trigger, but with the slide pulled back by Chen Ke, the gun was left empty and couldn’t fire. In the next second, the pistol disappeared from the bodyguard’s hand.
It appeared inside Chen Ke’s Dimension Pocket.
With his left hand, Chen Ke conjured a Blasphemous Dagger and stabbed it into the thick neck of the bodyguard, slicing horizontally to shred his Adam’s apple, blood spraying over a chair.
Li Moyang watched as Chen Ke entered his car, killed his bodyguard, and just sat there, unfazed.
"I’m sorry, Li Moyang, for getting your car dirty." Chen Ke moved the obese bodyguard’s body to the side, then knocked on the small window of the driver’s cab, which had just fainted from his murderous aura.
"It seems you know more than I do." Li Moyang was surprised but still maintained a calm demeanor.
"There are too many eyes and ears around you; I want to speak privately." Chen Ke sat down, looking at Li Moyang.
"Of course..." Li Moyang’s expression changed, his eyes showing confusion and anticipation.
Chen Ke kicked the obese bodyguard’s body out of the car door, and the driver, under duress, started the car and headed towards the intersection of Holy Oak and Raffi Road.
"Hmm... don’t you want to ask why I have your number, why I know who you are?"
In the car, Li Moyang still couldn’t believe what had just happened. He took a bottle of red wine from a small cooler next to him, poured glasses for himself and Chen Ke, then raised his glass and drank it all.
"Red wine should be sipped; you taught me that," Chen Ke reminded.
"I don’t know how to describe this feeling... Chen Ke, this is our first meeting, but I feel like you knew me before." Li Moyang shook his head.
"It’s not our first meeting; let’s get to the point. What does the Divine Descent Sect’s interest in you mean?" Chen Ke asked.
"The Divine Descent Sect... how do you know about them?" Li Moyang asked, puzzled.
"Cut the crap, just answer my questions," Chen Ke said.
Li Moyang frowned. Perhaps he had never been spoken to like this in his life, but the circumstances forced him to tolerate it.
"Chen Ke, do you believe in time travel?" Li Moyang asked.
"I do more than believe... that woman, Lin Yaying, gave you technology from over a hundred years in the future, allowing Wuan Heavy Industry to surpass the rest of the world. That must have come at a cost, right?" Chen Ke said.
"What! You know Lin Yaying?" Li Moyang was shocked.
"You have a house in Opportunity City, that broken place itself is a mutated object, capable of blocking all spiritual energy. I really want to know why Lin Yaying helps you, and why someone from Fei Huang Republic involved in heavy industry would come to the United Federation to engage in the Spiritual Power Industry," Chen Ke asked.
"Lin Yaying... she said her foundation has a founder program... I don’t know what that means, but it seems like I am the founder she mentioned," Li Moyang said.
"Founder, I’ve heard the term," Chen Ke said.
Xu Jing once told Chen Ke in 1859 that the origin of the Divine Descent Sect dates back to 1859; they are a group of fanatics who worship deities. However, if it was just such a group of people, their tone would be completely different from that of the Human Connection Foundation.
There’s a contradiction.
The old man at the Illusion Dream Center had said that the foundation and the Divine Descent Sect originally split from the same source, only differing in their views on deities and spiritual energy, with part of the original foundation separating to create a new foundation.
It can only be said that either the origins of the Divine Descent Sect in this 999th restart world are as such, or either Lin Yaying or Xu Jing is lying.
Of course, there’s another possibility; the so-called founder is not actually the founder of the foundation or the Divine Descent Sect, but has another meaning.
"Chen Ke, Lin Yaying and I are not partners; she’s binding me," Li Moyang said.
"You mean she’s forcing you into the spiritual business?" Chen Ke asked.
"No, no, I chose to enter the spiritual business myself, but buying that mansion and being confined there was not my idea," Li Moyang shook his head.
"I always thought you two were partners, controlling assassins by day and enjoying each other’s company by night," Chen Ke shrugged.
"She is indeed beautiful, but I’m not a man who thinks with his lower half. She provided me with advanced technology and used extreme measures to ensure my smooth entry into this industry. This kind of help doesn’t come for free. I know your background; you are an assassin from Si’s consortium. I intended to hint to you to get the consortium involved to create opportunities for me, but you’ve exceeded my expectations," Li Moyang said.
"What does she expect you to give her in return?" Chen Ke asked.
"She hasn’t said yet, but as a businessman, Chen Ke, the gifts she has given suggest that my future costs will not be small," Li Moyang replied.
"Every gift from fate already has its price marked in the shadows," Chen Ke nodded.
"I have already paid the price for my privileged birth, Chen Ke. I lost my parents, who were killed by superhumans before my eyes; I don’t want to go through that again, and I also don’t want to guess what I might lose next," Li Moyang said earnestly.
"No one in this era can save themselves; this power... this spiritual energy is deadly," Chen Ke said.
"What have you lost then?" Li Moyang asked.
"I have lost my world," Chen Ke said.
