Chapter 465: Chapter 465 Human Sentiment

Xu Jing looked at Chen Ke. Although she didn’t quite understand the meaning of that sentence just now, as a special agent of the Foundation, she was still very sensitive to these things.

Seeing that Chen Ke didn’t say anything more, Xu Jing pulled a stool over from the side and asked Chen Ke to sit down, simply saying, "You need to rest for a while."

Chen Ke sat on the stool and a line of small characters appeared in his field of vision.

Ability Unlocked: Restart the World

The text for this ability was red, and it wasn’t grouped with the Transcendent Skills. There were no consumption requirements or limitations marked, and it also didn’t belong to the categories of killing intent, time, or life series...

"You’re soaked through, like you just climbed out of a swimming pool. Do you need to change your clothes?" Xu Jing asked.

"If you have some," Chen Ke didn’t refuse.

"Of course, I do; they’re actually yours," Xu Jing smiled. She glanced at the antique shop owner, who then got up to get Chen Ke’s clothes.

Before entering the year 1859, in order to fit the attire of that time, Xu Jing and Chen Ke had changed into the clothes they were wearing now, something Chen Ke had forgotten.

After quickly changing clothes, the two left the antique shop and were once again bathed in the sunlight of 2009.

The streets of Raffi Road remained as familiar as ever. It was now between two and three in the afternoon, the streets weren’t very busy, and the small radio in the antique shop continued to broadcast the latest economic news.

"I still have matters to attend to at the Foundation. Chen Ke, perhaps this is the last time we’ll see each other," Xu Jing said.

"Mm..." Chen Ke nodded.

Xu Jing gave Chen Ke a strange look, as if he had forgotten something.

"What is it?" Chen Ke asked.

"Aren’t you going to remind me to keep the promise?" Xu Jing countered.

"Oh... right, I remember the thing you promised... The spirit of the contract, right?" Chen Ke said.

"Of course. As soon as I get back, someone will immediately send the items. You just stand here and don’t move," Xu Jing instructed.

"Mm... Okay..." Chen Ke nodded.

After Xu Jing returned to the Foundation, all she needed to do was take care of everything and then come back to this time point.

But at this moment, Chen Ke was no longer fixated on the promises made to him by the two Foundations.

Because he had already realized that this world was not real. And there was a high probability that his life would not perish once the countdown reached zero.

If Xu Jing’s and Lin Yaying’s Foundation really existed in the year 2137, then the time stagnation should already have been triggered. Yet, in the desolate base reality, nothing had happened.

Considering the matter of Xu Jing asking him to kill members of the Clan, even after the 999th restart, humanity still hadn’t found a way to slay a god.

But what did his hallucinations signify?

Xu Jing took out a folding dagger and stuffed it into Chen Ke’s hand, giving him a meaningful look.

"What’s this? A parting gift?" Chen Ke looked at the dagger in his hand. It wasn’t any Holy Relic or high-tech toy, just a simple folding knife.

"The throat? Or the heart? Quick? Or slow?" Xu Jing said with a smile.

"What do you mean? Are you asking me to kill someone on the street?" Chen Ke asked.

"Just send me back," Xu Jing said.

"Can’t you do that yourself?" Chen Ke sighed.

"You saved my life back in 1859. I don’t like owing debts of gratitude," Xu Jing said.

"Your way of repaying a debt is quite special..." Chen Ke tightly gripped the dagger, looking at the artery on Xu Jing’s neck.

"This method will make me feel a little more at peace with it... Don’t stab at the neck, the blood will splash onto you," Xu Jing said.

The two went back to the antique shop, where Xu Jing unbuttoned two buttons of her clothes, then suddenly threw her arms around Chen Ke.

"Goodbye." Chen Ke, with his left hand around Xu Jing’s waist and his right hand holding a dagger, slipped the blade through the gap in the clothes, carefully avoiding her ribs, and stabbed into Xu Jing’s heart.

"Uh-huh... Heh..." Xu Jing, trembling, let out a soft breath and suddenly kissed him.

Chen Ke twisted his wrist, slicing through muscle and pulverizing the ventricle. Xu Jing’s body went limp and fell to her knees in front of Chen Ke, her arms sliding off him. Two seconds later, her body turned into gray ash and disappeared into the air.

All that was left in Chen Ke’s hand was the blood-stained dagger.

The antique shop owner peeked at Chen Ke through a small window and, noticing Chen Ke’s gaze, quickly looked away.

At that moment, a man dressed in black pushed the door open and walked toward Chen Ke.

"Hmm..." Chen Ke folded the dagger and pocketed it.

"Here’s something that needs to be delivered to you, please check it." The man pulled out an envelope and handed it to Chen Ke.

Chen Ke took the envelope, opened the seal, took out the documents inside, and saw they were the United Federation’s driver’s license, shield, social security card, and more.

In theory, Chen Ke was already a legal citizen of the United Federation.

There was also a note in the envelope, with a brief message: "Enjoy this ordinary life." It was signed by Xu Jing.

"Have you checked everything?" the man in black asked.

"Please thank Xu Jing for me," Chen Ke said.

The man nodded, then turned and left the antique shop.

As for what happened next, Chen Ke now had a confused mess in his head; he needed a quiet place to think.

Sitting in the taxi, Chen Ke stuffed some cards from the envelope into his wallet.

Chen Ke’s documents were brand new, signifying that he had become a legal citizen of the United Federation, and due to the foundation’s influence, the Administration Bureau would turn a blind eye to his special abilities.

However, the world was no longer what he had initially thought it was. If all this was just a cycle, what was the meaning of these legal documents?

Moreover, the world had reached the year 2137, yet Xu Jing’s and Lin Yaying’s era had not become stranded in base reality. Why was that?

But Chen Ke didn’t think Lin Yan was deceiving him. After all, he had truly entered that reality, seen the white being riding a horse in his visions, and, indeed, awakened the ability to restart the world.

Restarting the world was equivalent to committing suicide; he had no wish to use such an ability unless he was utterly despondent.

Chen Ke grew even more suspicious of the foundation behind Xu Jing and Lin Yaying, especially Lin Yaying. Her foundation was not the Human Cradle Project, but the Human Linkage Project, which didn’t sound reliable.

Lin Yan’s last advice to him was something he took very seriously.

Why not let the countdown reach zero and see what happens?

Before this, Chen Ke had never considered attempting such a thing, but this time, he wanted to try.

The taxi stopped in front of the small fish factory in Hainerd, and Chen Ke knocked on the red metal door of the basement.

It wasn’t Lucina who opened the door, but Hainerd.

"Ah... Where is Lucina?" Chen Ke was taken aback.

"She went out shopping, left half an hour ago," Hainerd inquired.

"Oh, I should have gone with her if I’d known," Chen Ke said awkwardly.

"Come in. It looks like you have some time now. She should be back soon. Let’s have a couple of drinks together and wait for her," Hainerd said.
