Chapter 438: Chapter 438 Divine’s Dream
"You have no weapon, no blood vials, what do you plan to fight those things with, Mr. Ludwig?" Maria shook her head.
"My fists," Chen Ke raised his fists.
"Are you trying to amuse me? So resolute, for what reason?" A hint of a smile appeared on Maria’s frosty face.
"I want to..." thoughts flooded Chen Ke’s mind as he contemplated a reason to convince Maria.
He looked back at the bones on the ground.
"For Parker and Sam, I must avenge them," Chen Ke said determinedly.
Maria appeared thoughtful. At this moment, behind Chen Ke, a gurgling sound followed, and two mangled skeletons slid out from the torn flesh walls.
"The first team we sent out consisted of three people, Mr. Ludwig," Maria said.
She placed her hand on the hilt of her military sword, her blue eyes assessing Chen Ke as she began pacing around him.
"Now it’s just me, Miss Maria. Lady Katherine is very important to me, and I’m sure you wouldn’t want the secrets kept by the Secret Keeper to be disclosed, right?" Chen Ke said.
"I could kill you. Dead men tell no tales," Maria said nonchalantly, her thumb pushing the military sword slightly out of its sheath, and she slowly approached Chen Ke.
"+100 hours"
"+100 hours"
"+100 hours"
"+100 hours"
"+100 hours"
...
Damn... this girl is no ordinary person... A droplet of cold sweat slid down Chen Ke’s forehead.
"Then you’ll never hear the words Florence left you before he died," Chen Ke shook his index finger and smiled.
Maria stopped in her tracks, her expression hesitant.
"You just said he left no words," Maria said coldly.
"I was lying to you; look, I’m wearing his clothes. Don’t you think that represents something?" Chen Ke asked.
Perhaps he did say something when she killed Florence, but she couldn’t remember now.
Maria frowned tightly, her eyes fixated on Chen Ke before shifting to the ground.
Seconds later, she sheathed the half-drawn sword, turned around, and said, "Then come with me, Mr. Ludwig. Do what you wish to do," her tone light.
"But if you dare deceive me, Mr. Ludwig, I swear by the moon, my sword will taste every piece of muscle, every inch of your skin, soaking them in corrupt blood, drowning your sanity in pain and despair," Maria’s words were cold but resolute.
Chen Ke nodded and made an ’OK’ gesture, saying, "Deal."
Maria didn’t waste more words. She extracted a blood vial from her waist, poured it onto the ground, and the thick red liquid quickly gathered into a small blood pool.
Chen Ke remained silent, simply observing; blood was essential for this era’s Secret Keepers to fight Transcendent powers.
That also meant a massive consumption of this kind of blood; if it wasn’t human blood, what could it be? Animal? Chen Ke shook his head, if ordinary blood could restrain Transcendent, then 2009 wouldn’t have turned out that way.
After Maria emptied the last of the blood from the bottle, she hung the small vial back at her waist and stood watching, as if waiting for something to happen.
Chen Ke could only stand and wait alongside Maria, both staring at the small blood pool on the ground.
The small pool of blood slowly changed, a stream about half a finger thick splitting from the pool, crawling slowly towards a wall opposite.
Chen Ke couldn’t help but move closer, curious to take a closer look.
Maria, without uttering a word, followed the trail of blood to the wall and drew her military sabre, stabbing it into the wall.
With a squelch, the sabre pierced the wall, and the bricks started peeling off like they were disintegrating, revealing the flesh-like wall inside.
It resembled an illusion technique, but it seemed more like a "hidden reality"—perhaps this was the "extension of dreams into reality" that Maria had spoken of?
The flesh-like wall, as if it had its own awareness, parted to reveal a door.
"Follow me, Mr. Ludwig, Lady Katherine is inside."
Maria pushed open the wooden door as she spoke and walked straight in. Chen Ke hurried to follow her. The two entered one after the other into a lavish bedroom.
This was a physically real bedroom, surrounded by extensions of a dream, where a beautiful lady lay sleeping on the double bed in the middle.
She was Katherine, about 40 years old, with fair skin that turned slightly red around her neck and collarbone, covered by a thin blanket, her golden hair splayed across her chest as she lay deep in sleep.
On her exposed forearm, there was a rubber syringe inserted, and next to the bed hung a glass bottle filled with a thick red liquid, now almost empty.
"Lady Katherine," Maria called softly.
Katherine didn’t wake up; she was sleeping soundly, but then again, it was indeed time to sleep now.
"Is that... Baron Mox?" Chen Ke looked at the man lying on the floor.
Maria nodded and sheathed her sabre before walking towards the blood-filled glass bottle and bent over for a closer look.
Chen Ke squatted beside Baron Mox and noticed a pool of blood on the floor.
"Dead?" murmured Chen Ke, giving Baron Mox a gentle push.
The baron’s body, as if all bones had been removed, shifted from a face-down, buttock-up position to lying on his side; a new bottle of blood rolled out of his embrace.
The baron’s body was pale and seemed to have been dead for several days, a foul odor emanating from his lower body due to postmortem incontinence.
"What are they injecting?" Chen Ke couldn’t help asking.
"Something completely different from the blood we use," replied Maria.
Chen Ke picked up the blood bottle; it was about the size of a two-yuan bottle of Pepsi, and without a word, he pocketed it. Later, he might have time to study it with Wang Ailin.
Speaking of Wang Ailin reminded him of Diana, and thinking of Diana suddenly brought to mind Lin Yaying’s assassination list.
Chen Ke couldn’t return to 2009 by himself, and based on his previous experiences of traveling through time, it would be several weeks or even a month before he arrived if he used his own powers.
He would probably miss the funeral of those two girls.
He still needed to find Xu Jing, after all, Xu Jing could take him back to the exact moment they crossed from Opportunity City, effectively wasting no time.
"What are you going to do, Mr. Ludwig?" Maria asked at that moment.
Chen Ke wanted only the Holy Diamond; he didn’t know if Sean had told the truth, but he decided to search anyway.
He stood up and walked over to the bedside, looking at Katherine, and noticed a necklace around her neck...
"My... my Holy Diamond..." Chen Ke swallowed, immediately recognizing his possessions; five blue Holy Diamonds were strung into a necklace, hanging around the white neck of Lady Katherine.
"Not... not An Helei’s Requiem... it’s Mrs. Qiong’s set," Chen Ke was slightly disappointed; the five Holy Diamonds of An Helei’s armor were orange, and the Moonlight Greatsword was purple...
Although Holy Diamonds couldn’t be processed or destroyed, they could still be made into a necklace by framing them and threading a cord through the frames...
Chen Ke didn’t know where the remaining Holy Diamonds were, but at least now he could recover some; he reached out to grab the necklace on Katherine’s neck.
"Wait, are you going to touch her?" Maria suddenly stopped Chen Ke.
"It’s not what you think, Miss Maria," Chen Ke said.
"She’s dreaming, and if you touch her now, you’ll be pulled into her nightmare," Maria warned.
