Chapter 437 Mrs. Maria
Chapter 437: Chapter 437 Mrs. Maria
While Chen Ke was slacking off, the blood pool under his feet started to boil, yet it wasn’t caused by An Helei’s ashes, as Chen Ke had already gathered them.
He looked up, only to find that the circular exit above had completely disappeared. Darkness surrounded him, and he felt the walls slowly closing in on him.
This intense oppression made him very uncomfortable. Accompanied by the gurgling sound of flowing water, the liquid beneath Chen Ke’s feet kept rising.
It wasn’t just rising. Chen Ke smelled an unpleasant odor, similar to some sort of acid.
"This... corrosive liquid..." Chen Ke felt a sudden sharp pain in his feet as his bones and muscles slowly dissolved in the liquid.
He waded through the water towards a direction, hoping to find a door or something else, even a wall. He intended to break it to figure out a way to escape.
He didn’t know when the blood pool below turned into acid water. Its rising speed exceeded Chen Ke’s imagination. It had only reached his ankles before, but now it was already waist-high.
His lower body continually melted and reformed in the acid, causing Chen Ke to sweat profusely from pain. Almost simultaneously, the surrounding walls suddenly squeezed in front of Chen Ke, transforming into thick, slippery intestinal-like substances.
The acid surged up to Chen Ke’s chest, disintegrating his muscles and even turning his Type 67 pistol into a mere metal frame.
He raised his right hand, feeling only sparse white bones under his glove, completely immobilized. Then, the acid water rushed into his mouth, making his throat feel like it was being slashed and scorched painfully.
"Uh-uh-uh..." Chen Ke was tightly wrapped by the thick intestines, sliding downwards mixed with acid and some sort of oil. He felt he stepped on something. He looked down with his newly restored eyeballs and saw another Secret Keeper’s corpse.
Was this... eaten by something?
Suddenly, Chen Ke realized. The hole he had jumped into was actually a monster’s mouth. He summoned An Helei’s ashes and reached out towards the fleshy arm in front of him, trying to burn a hole through it.
The hand inside the glove was just white bones, which broke into pieces upon touching the flesh arm. After a life timer’s repair, it barely reformed into the shape of a palm within 5 seconds, only to dissolve again in the acid.
An Helei’s ashes couldn’t gather in his hand, and the high temperature of the Magic Flames couldn’t be unleashed. He tried to condense the Spiritual Power Crystal Gun, only to find that the Spiritual Energy leaked out from his broken hand into the acid water, turning into a blue halo.
Without hands as a medium, the relics and some of the Secret Manual skills couldn’t be released.
"Do I have to die again..." Chen Ke kicked the flesh wall with his foot, slipping down a bit further.
Suddenly, a military knife blade pierced through the flesh wall in front of Chen Ke, almost bursting his eyeballs by just a finger’s width.
The blade sliced downward from top to Chen Ke’s abdomen level, then dragged to the right, violently cutting out a triangular hole.
Chen Ke and the skull of the Secret Keeper beneath him slid out through the gap, landing on the floor with a thud.
"Cough, cough, cough..." Chen Ke coughed as he got up from the ground, his body dripping with acid. Behind him, a large chunk of metal also fell out; Chen Ke turned to see it was a broken ax.
"Florence...?"
A gentle call came from a woman’s voice.
As Chen Ke’s skin and muscles restored, he looked up to see a woman holding a military knife. She had white hair and skin that was pale with a flush of pink, a refined face, and an indescribable expression, like confronting a formidable iceberg.
She was dressed in a similarly styled coat designed for combat and reached out her hand to Chen Ke.
"Oh... you are not Florence." The woman gently shook her head.
Chen Ke grasped her hand, her arm slender and seemingly frail, yet through the handshake, he could sense a strength in her that was no less than that of a man. From the look in the woman’s eyes, Chen Ke could tell this girl was no mere decoration.
"Madam... you..." Chen Ke wanted to ask what her name was, but he suddenly realized that she might see him as a member of the Secret Keeper, and asking would give himself away. So, he pretended to cough and muddled through it.
"Hunter, have you seen Florence?" the woman asked.
Chen Ke had indeed seen him, but now he had forgotten the situation at the time. Besides, the clothes he was wearing were obtained in exchange for Florence’s soul, making it even harder to talk about it.
"I... have seen him, but he died under the academy," Chen Ke replied, piecing together bits and pieces of his last experience from Jacob’s fragments, tactfully omitting some details.
"That was his inevitable fate, Hunter, tell me, did he leave any message?" the lady asked.
"No... no," Chen Ke shook his head.
"Oh... Florence, Florence..." the lady sighed, flicking the fat off her saber onto the ground.
Chen Ke stood up and looked back, only to find a huge wall of flesh in front of him. The muscle tissue extended to the ceiling, almost swallowing up half the room.
"I am Maria, Hunter. You and your group just walked into its body, falling into its dream," Maria said flatly.
"Its dream?" This was the first time Chen Ke had heard such a term. Was it not an illusion technique?
"This creature is in pain, Hunter, let us end its nightmare," Maria said as she sheathed her saber.
In Chen Ke’s view, the wall of flesh offered no further clues. He looked around the environment; it was a room inside Mox’s mansion, and it seemed he had been swallowed the moment he stepped in.
He ran to the window and looked out. It was the midnight streets of Langdon, with some security personnel patrolling. The strange occurrences inside this room were unknown to the people outside.
Chen Ke then looked down at the skeletons of the Secret Keepers on the floor—within just ten minutes, three people had died...
"Where did this thing come from...?" Chen Ke couldn’t help but ask.
"It was Lady Katherine. She injected too many things she shouldn’t have. We couldn’t find Baron Mox in the house; he must have died too?" Maria said calmly, beginning to search the room.
"What are we looking for? You see this big clump of flesh... isn’t it right before us?" Chen Ke asked.
"That comes from the dream spreading out, it’s not its real body," Maria shook her head.
Chen Ke didn’t understand. What did she mean by a dream extending?
"Lady Maria... you mean, some things’ dreams can interfere with reality?" Chen Ke asked in astonishment.
"Haven’t I made myself clear enough? Hunter, may I ask your name?" Maria asked.
"My name is... Ludwig," Chen Ke said.
"Very well, Mr. Ludwig, your weapon is broken and lacks the capacity for combat, so I grant your leave. Please go back and report to the Langdon Secret Keeper Organization," Maria said coldly.
This woman was so cold-hearted, but her reasoning made sense. The Secret Keeper Organization, like the Administration Bureau, was a disciplined department, prepared to handle diverse situations with their own set of strategies.
However, Chen Ke clearly couldn’t easily walk away; he had to find out if Lady Katherine truly had his Holy Diamond.
