Chapter 382 Facing Reality
Chapter 382: Chapter 382 Facing Reality
An Helei’s Magic Flames ignited in Chen Ke’s hands, and the temperature within a radius of 20 meters centered on him suddenly surged to 70 degrees, continuing to rise.
His Black Knight armor shielded him from all the might of the flames, meanwhile, patterns like veins of fire clung to the surface of the armor, and his entire right arm turned a blackish-red.
Tons of rifle bullets pinged off the armor, but Chen Ke kept his stance stable.
He looked back at the warehouse door, which was firmly shut with a large iron gate that likely prevented the high temperature of the magic flames from affecting the outside.
"Don’t come in, Ms. Harlowin, I’ll handle them soon," Chen Ke shouted outside the door, then allowed the temperature of the flames in his right hand to keep rising.
Using the relic did not consume his lifespan, as it was a gift from a great soul, equivalent to a tool and not part of the Spiritual Energy system.
If the relic wasn’t part of Spiritual Energy, what was it then?
Although the warehouse was large, it couldn’t withstand An Helei’s high temperatures; Chen Ke, while throwing the Soul Crystal Gun, advanced into the middle of the warehouse under a hail of bullets.
Soon, the temperature reached 500 degrees.
This temperature had already surpassed that of a fire scene; without any protective gear, exposed skin not covered by clothes would suffer extensive burns.
"Ah, ah, AH!!!" Some armed militants couldn’t withstand the high temperatures and started to scream.
Oddly, they didn’t stop their forward advance, just had faces contorted with screams.
The originally dense rain of bullets thinned, even durable ones like the AK47 couldn’t function normally at 500 degrees; the barrels of the rifles themselves were scorching after continuous shooting, damaging many guns, and some even exploded.
Those armed militants farther from Chen Ke could still keep shooting, but those closer were unlucky.
Their exposed skin first accumulated a messy layer of blisters, then the blister fluid boiled, turning into a mess of red sores that began to ooze blood.
The bleeding sores then burst into blisters, which grew and burst again, the blood inside popping like a squeezed pimple, spurting out droplets.
Those sores would then dry out, the muscles become desiccated, and emit a smell akin to grilled skewers.
These armed militants were just spontaneously created things; they didn’t exhibit the behavioral patterns expected of humans.
Usually, enduring such excruciating temperatures, they should be rolling on the ground in pain by now.
However, other than crying out in pain, they still maintained their attacking stance, even if their weapons had exploded, the barrels and firing mechanisms stopped working due to the high temperatures, they still kept shooting.
This was also why Ms. Harlowin found it difficult to conclude her missions.
This group was nothing but flesh turrets, with over a hundred guns ruthlessly aiming and firing without dodging or flinching, not fearing getting shot, hence they couldn’t create any openings.
Ms. Harlowin could only rely on a small handgun against these more than a hundred AK47s, whoever created this space had ulterior motives.
Chen Ke also spotted an armed militant hiding in a corner, holding a rifle with a blob of plastic on it, which Chen Ke guessed was a tranquilizer dart.
With over a hundred people, half of them still stubbornly persevered; Chen Ke snorted coldly and increased the temperature again.
This time, the indoor temperature reached a terrifying 700 degrees, the warehouse’s concrete stone walls were scorched by the high temperature, turning somewhat darkened and blackened in many places.
He moved slowly, inspecting the armed militants like the Grim Reaper, their eyes bloodshot and bulging, their exposed flesh utterly devastated.
The temperature had risen, and no one could stand anymore; everyone had collapsed on the ground, some had died, and some, although alive, were hardly distinguishable from the dead.
Chen Ke collected An Helei’s ashes, but the temperature inside the warehouse was still very high, at least over 600 degrees. He walked to the warehouse door and heard Harlowin shouting outside.
"Rookie?! Rookie?!" Harlowin’s tone sounded somewhat anxious, but because the iron door was too hot, and the entire warehouse had turned into a furnace, she dared not approach.
Chen Ke shouted back, "Step back a bit, it’s very hot inside, opening the door might cause a flash fire."
"You’re still alive?!" Harlowin replied joyfully.
"Yes... back off about 100 meters, and then, don’t stand in front of the door..." Chen Ke said.
Chen Ke heard the sounds of Harlowin running backward.
"I’ve run far enough, rookie!" Harlowin shouted.
Chen Ke figured it was far enough, reached out to open the door, and when he grabbed the door handle and pulled, he twisted the entire handle off.
The door, scorched by the high temperature, had deformed slightly, and the copper door lock had melted into a liquid, sticking to the door frame.
He had no other choice but to snap his fingers towards the door; the surge of Spiritual Energy responded instantly, blasting the iron door away with great force.
Outside, the average temperature was only a bit over 20 degrees; the sudden air exchange caused an intense flash, and although there was no open flame inside, an Air Explosion occurred. The loud noise mixed with scorching hot air burst out from the small door, sending Chen Ke flying.
"Damn it!" Chen Ke yelled as he was hurled over twenty meters away by the blast, landing on the ground with a grunt.
From a distance, Harlowin watched as Chen Ke flew out of the warehouse, her face full of surprise, but the scorching wind prevented her from coming closer to Chen Ke; she could only watch from a hundred meters away.
Chen Ke got up, looked back at the warehouse, and the huge iron door had been dented by the explosion.
Speaking of Spiritual Energy surges, Chen Ke had tried before to activate his Skill as mentioned in the Skill manuals, by just extending a finger, but there was no response; he also attempted using fists and palms to exert force, but still, there was no effect.
Snapping his fingers could create a small air burst, which might be why the Spiritual Energy surge could be triggered.
Just like with that warehouse, Chen Ke was thrown over twenty meters by a single snap of his fingers.
However, thanks to the protection of the armor, the high temperature had not injured him, but the shockwave from the explosion and the fall had caused internal injuries and bruises.
Chen Ke stood up, recovered his body, and walked toward Harlowin, recalling his armor only after feeling the surrounding temperature drop.
"Are you a Spiritual Ability User?" Harlowin exclaimed joyfully.
"Yes, I’m a special agent from the Spiritual Ability Administration... I entered this space to investigate a case about the murder of a celebrity..." Chen Ke said.
"Rookie... focus on the task..." Harlowin’s expression changed slightly upon hearing Chen Ke’s words.
"Ms. Harlowin... I’ve always been very focused," Chen Ke replied.
Harlowin looked at Chen Ke, her face showing an indescribable expression, mixing reluctance, hope, and joy.
"We can’t escape reality, but at least I can assure you, I’ll help avenge you," Chen Ke said.
Harlowin was already dead, and the person in the photo was not real, as Chen Ke couldn’t see any blue outline on her.
"Let’s check Warehouse No. 6, rookie." After a pause, Harlowin laughed and turned to walk toward Warehouse No. 6, leaving Chen Ke alone where he stood.
