Chapter 373: Chapter 373 What’s Your Background?

The steak on the plate sizzled, but Chen Ke’s mind was elsewhere.

He was using his phone to search for information about Lescott Spirit Production, hoping to find something useful.

Corrigan was dead, the next one was Harlowin.

Lescott Spirit Production was a young company, having developed over just 20 years.

However, it had grown rapidly because of its extremely popular facial care products among women, taking the leading position in the spiritual beauty products market.

According to Google, the president and founder of Lescott Spirit Production was Anderson Lescott.

His wife, Harlowin, did not have a specific position in the company, but she was still very important.

For these 20 years, Harlowin had been the chief model for Lescott’s beauty products.

Over 40 but stunningly beautiful, her presence could be seen in various advertising media; Harlowin was the showcase of Lescott’s beauty products’ results.

He searched for some images, and Google fetched thousands of Harlowin’s advertising photographs.

This woman had white hair, her skin as delicate as a baby’s, her beauty indescribable in words or language.

Her orange-yellow eyes could captivate hearts, even just as an image.

But Chen Ke believed this woman was certainly no ordinary person; otherwise, she would not have been added to the foundation’s blacklist.

What would Harlowin do to Li Moyang in the future? Seduce him? Chen Ke didn’t know, he just had to make sure this woman wouldn’t survive past December.

Besides that, he also knew the foundation planned to act against Diana and Wang Ailin.

July was just around the corner; the assassin assigned to kill Wang Ailin might have already started to move.

And before October, Diana would be dealt with as well.

Chen Ke didn’t intend to let these two events happen.

He sent a message to Wang Ailin to check on her current situation.

For the moment at least, Wang Ailin was still lively and, as an important asset of the research institute, she had been transferred to the Administration Bureau’s hospital for treatment.

If Lin Yaying hadn’t sent a particularly monstrous assassin to deal with Wang Ailin, she was quite safe for now.

But it was hard to predict everything; in this era, finding a spiritual ability killer wasn’t difficult, especially since any significant consortium could nurture their own.

Even if the Administration Bureau hospital was well-protected and the assassin couldn’t make a move, Wang Ailin would eventually be discharged.

Chen Ke still couldn’t rest easy.

The situation with Diana was even more complicated, and Chen Ke didn’t know if she was still under the Administration Bureau’s surveillance, so he dared not contact her.

After all, Diana warned Chen Ke not to call her mobile phone for the time being, as the Administration Bureau would be listening.

Xu Jing had promised Chen Ke that if he was willing to help, she could keep the Administration Bureau from bothering him, but he was still hesitant.

"What are you thinking about?"

Lucina was slicing the beef on her plate and saw Chen Ke looking deeply troubled, making her worried as well.

"Just thinking about that green diamond... I hope we can get rid of it soon," Chen Ke came back to his senses.

"Let Pihom and Dad worry about that crap. We finally got a chance to sit together," Lucina said.

"Yeah... I’m really worried about Yasla’s mutants, or someone from the company coming after us again. This Holy Diamond is a hot potato, and it shouldn’t be in our hands," Chen Ke said.

"If they come, I’ll feed them lead," Lucina declared.

"That’s not how it went down last time..." Chen Ke shook his head.

"Last time we were ambushed. Next time I’ll be ready..." Lucina stuffed a piece of beef into her mouth, her expression slightly displeased, her breath heavier.

She still harbored a grudge over that past incident, where Yasla’s mutants had beaten her severely. For someone as hot-tempered as Lucina, being hung up and punched without being able to fight back was a great humiliation.

"I definitely hope there won’t be a next time," Chen Ke leant his hand on the table, supporting his forehead, while toying with his steak knife.

"Chen Ke... Compared to the pain of flesh and bones, that kind of humiliation of being toyed with—it’s like a nightmare," said Lucina.

"I know... So stay away from them..." Chen Ke replied.

"No, if there’s a chance, I must personally slaughter them. Let’s change the topic, Chen Ke, and stop talking about this," Lucina picked up a juice beside her and gulped it down.

Chen Ke cut another piece of steak, forked it, and chewed slowly, savoring the soup and tender beef between his lips.

It was quite delicious.

"The steak from this place has always been good..." Lucina smiled, but was interrupted by the ringing of Chen Ke’s phone.

Chen Ke picked up the phone—it was a call from Diana.

"Who is Diana? Little Ke," said Lucina. Even across the table, her gaze sharpened when she saw the caller’s name appear on the screen.

"Just a... friend. This call is important, I’ll take it in the restroom," Chen Ke explained.

"How important? You can’t talk in front of me?" Lucina was displeased.

"I’ll explain later... Will you wait here for me?" Chen Ke stood, heading toward the restaurant’s restroom.

Lucina sighed. Reluctantly, but not willing to force the issue too much, she watched Chen Ke leave.

Chen Ke entered the restroom, pushed open all three toilet doors to check, ensuring no one was inside, then answered the call.

"Chen Ke? What’s the hold-up, taking so long to answer?" Diana’s voice came from the other end.

"Is the Administration Bureau not monitoring?" Chen Ke asked.

"I was about to tell you that, Chen Ke, it’s important. You should be more careful lately; I don’t know if someone will come after you," Diana said.

Chen Ke was puzzled; what was happening?

"Listen, Chen Ke, a woman has shown up in the Administration Bureau; she seems to know a lot about you. And she wasn’t much surprised about that mess in 2006," Diana continued.

"2006... What did you tell her?" Chen Ke asked.

"I only told her what I could and hid the details about you, but she seemed to already know you were there... And Chen Ke, the Blasphemous Dagger is not for what you used it for! How did you even..." Diana’s thoughts were slightly disordered.

"That’s not the point; we’re back now... Did you tell them about me?" Chen Ke said.

"I didn’t! That woman is looking for you. Chen Ke, you better tell me, what’s your real background?" Diana sounded anxious.

Chen Ke didn’t know what was happening on Diana’s side, but from her tone, Chen Ke sensed she had changed...
